If you need a part to repair your Xbox Series X / S, check iFixit’s selection

iFixit now sells genuine Xbox parts you can use to repair your Xbox Series X or S and offers official guides to help with fixes. You can browse what’s available from iFixit’s Microsoft Repair Hub.

“We’re excited to be working with Microsoft to keep Xboxes running longer and out of the waste heap,” Elizabeth Chamberlain, iFixit’s director of sustainability, says in a statement to The Verge. “We now offer official Microsoft parts and step-by-step repair guides for Xbox Series S and Series X, including both the all-digital and disk drive editions.”

iFixit’s Microsoft Repair Hub also features iFixit’s parts for repairing Microsoft Surface devices, which it started selling in 2023. “Since we launched our Surface parts collaboration with Microsoft last year, we’ve been helping our customers repair their own Microsoft laptops and tablets — and it’s awesome to be able to offer Xbox owners the same opportunity,” Chamberlain says.

Microsoft isn’t the only gaming company that iFixit has partnered with; iFixit sells nearly every part of the Steam Deck and offers a bunch of repair guides for Valve’s handheld PC, too. Microsoft itself offers first-party parts for the standard and Elite Series 2 Xbox controllers.

iFixit also offers genuine repair parts for Google’s Pixel phones and the Pixel Tablet. The company had sold genuine parts from Samsung, but that partnership ended earlier this year.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Glanced at some of the pages and the step by step guides are pretty helpful. Big detailed pictures for every step go a long way.

I reckon this will be primarily for people whose warranties have run out, since otherwise you'd just be sending the device to them (MS) for repairs or replacement.

No one shall be brought before our LORD David Bowie without the true and secret knowledge of the Photoshop. For in that time, so shall He appear.
Maybe the stupid official Xbox discord will let me actually submit a community support question now. They previously banned support questions if you had already opened your Xbox.

That's cool, unfortunately it seems they can't provide the tools/software for the SSD replacement, meaning the xsx/s is still bricked and can only be repaired by MS if the SSD dies

The motherboards in general are priced like that. Even the S mobo costs basically more than a new S. I noticed though, because the disk drives are paired, they don’t even offer a replacement disk drive, and that’s almost always the first thing to fail…

These prices are shit. I want to get the nvme and an ebay adapter so I dont have to pay for the overpriced expansion cards but it's still too expensive.

Interesting, then what's the point of repairing the failed one for most general consumers?

Has anyone successfully replaced a joystick? My Starfield controller has been drifting more and I’m wondering if it’s worth the effort to fix it. It looks like a pretty involved repair and I don’t have any experience soldering.
If my girlfriend didn’t like that controller so much, I wouldn’t even bother asking, but if it’s possible I’d like to know what I’m getting into.

Probably because the rumour that they've stopped producing them a while ago is probably true meaning it would be difficult to get a disc drive motherboard through a new xbox SX soon enough. This would be the only way those prices would make sense.

This kicks ass.

Serviceability is up there with foss for me. That's way up there.
I agree but the prices are stupid. They would only make sense if xbox was no longer available, otherwise who is going to pay $699 for a part of a $450 RRP device? Prices just seem really stupid if it's not preservation of discontinued products.

Otherwise though this is great. I have a portable laser projector (ones that they don't even sell in my region that I had to import, due to the Lumen power of it maybe) but its battery died because i didn't use it for a while and there is absolutely no way to source a replacement. More parts services like this are always welcome.

Soldering isn't that hard but not that easy, either. You see guys on youtube do it and they are just dabbing each spot one after another. Then you try and it messy and frustrating lol.

You may also want to consider buying a new normal controller and swapping the shells.

Copious amounts of flux helps I've noticed.

I do solder here and there. Not often enough to get good at it. If I have to do a bunch, it starts to look good by the time I get to the last parts lol. It seems true that more flux is better than less, but goddamn can I make a mess of things.

I should say the quality of the soldering iron is a thing, too. I finally upgraded from a cruel joke one to a plain shitty one and it helped.

Like buying broken lawn mower engines. What’s the point? Nobody wants the functioning brand new consoles, never mind spares.
