[The Verge] Xbox console games are suddenly showing up inside the Xbox PC app

If Microsoft pull this off, and do it properly, this could legitimately be one of the biggest moves in the industry in the past decade. Excited to see what happens in the next few hours!

I have zero Xbox games and the ones I would be interested in (and have tried emulating, with middling success) I wouldn't be able to get - Forza Horizon 1 and 2.

Being able to access my old Xbox games on my PC, would be cool.
But having to use the PC Xbox app, is a deal breaker. Broken piece of crap, that competes with GFWL.

You must also be fan of DB Evolution.
Below the belt dude. Yellow card.

Whats broken about it? Used it loads last year when I had gamepass and didn't encounter any issues

No reason most of these back combat games can't be emulated within windows afaik, just requires MS to spend the time and resources to get it done. It's already a vm within the xbox os.

I have a feeling that this is for streaming efforts for your library and not full emulation.

However if they actually manage to allow you to play full on X360 and Xbox games on PC, that would be pretty sweet. The only question is if that would require GamePass, whether PC or Ultimate.

I don't know if they have fixed it but there used to be a pretty well known storage bug where if you used the Xbox app to download a game and uninstalled it you wouldn't get the storage back 100% and the only way to fix it was to wipe the drive.

It's part of the reason why I put another m.2 in my PC and just use it for GP and other stuff.

I also still have issues with downloads just randomly stopping.

Had so many issues with it over the years, while using Gamepass.
The issue wasn't the app per say, but rather the stupid Windows Store backend and also their annoying UWP format plus encryption.

They dumped UWP, but the store backend and how it handles large amount of data (and encryption) still sucks.

Horizon 1 emulates beautifully now, lovely at 60fps

But yea this would be awesome

That would be amazing. I have Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon on my account but I can't access them...

Emulating a back catalogue to a fixed console spec is one thing but doing it to an open one like the PC where Potato specs reign supreme is a whole other level of pain to inflict on yourself.

Serious and maybe stupid question - is it worth getting games for my Series X now and cheap on CDKeys if I plan to move to PC after this gen?
To get the games to play now and keep them when moving to PC from Play Anywhere and back compat?

Ninja Gaiden Black was never ported. Nor Genma Onimusha.

Actually plenty of semi obscure Xbox only stuff out there. Would be cool to play Breakdown on my PC for example.

I feel like they aren't ready for native Xbox play yet, and this is a case of them integrating their streaming options your library. I hope I'm wrong.

I would generally say if it's too good to be true it's not true BUT at the same time we got OG Xbox and Xbox 360 backwards compatibility on XBO/Series with automatic upgrades and even FPS boost so who knows.

I'll be curious about what Tom Warren has to say about it. So weird that this was leaked the day of the showcase and then.......nothing.
