Verge: Xbox E3 teasers contain hidden Project Scorpio messages (and sick PS4 burns)

Microsoft have basically been yelling that the price was going to be $400 for the past year in every way that they could (without actually saying the price). It's in between the lines every time they get asked about cost. "We know what a reasonable mass market price is......we're hoping to launch this at a price similar to other consoles....." on and on and on.

You'd have to be crazy to think this wasn't coming. People with a strong pro-Sony attitude were the only ones hoping to sow doubt that MS would be dumb enough to launch another $500+ console.

can't tell if there's a /s in this post, but are there scenarios where you genuinely pick to play a game on xbox one that's also on PC?

I don't have my two gaming PCs hooked up to all 4 flat-screens in my house. That good enough? Also, yes...sometimes it's more convenient to jump from say Red Dead Redemption directly to Horizon 3 on Xbox One on the same TV (as my main rig) without turning on my PC. It's nice having the games across both pieces of hardware.

I also have my Thrustmaster racing seat/wheel setup for my main rig and X1 together.

But if they had actual exclusives, it's possible they could still get people to pay for an XB1 or Scorpio.

With that misguided 'Play Amywhere' program though, few people need to buy an Xbox console or pay for XBL to play the games that they show - they're all playable on PC.

Sunday will be really interesting.
I wonder if they'll really price it at 400 though. Well, they got to now anyway lol or else people will be mad.

Most people here thought it would be over $399. Microsoft has been saying for a year now that it would be a premium SKU not priced to sell to the masses. This is unexpected at the very least.
Yup, they have maintained the premium console angle consistently since we've heard of Scorpio, and even the Digital Foundry coverage estimated hardware alone to be over 399. To be offering 399 would be a pleasant surprise, and suggeats Microsoft is eating the cost to push for market share.

You need to understand something.

Microsoft does not care if you buy one of their games on PC, or Xbox ONE.

They're a two-platform company. If you're buying on PC, you've bought into Windows 10 and help them gain a gaming foothold against Steam. If you buy on XBox, you boost their foothold against Sony.

The XBox is for the audience that isn't going to consider PC as a realistic option. It's hitting at an entirely different segment of the market on price, and selling to a whole other set of demographics.

They've said multiple times, premium in comparison to what's available today. The slim and S are going to be $250 this fall. $399 is premium in comparison

If it is $399 it should help sell quite a lot more consoles than the Pro. People will see the price of the Pro and Scorpio and will obviously see Scorpio as the better console.

Maybe the break that MS needs and will give both Sony and MS a kick up the arse to step their games up next gen. $399 is a win / win situation in my eyes and good for MS.

This E3 is going to be insufferable isn't it?

Between the and the recent BC threads the console wars really have begun. Warriors ensemble.

Most people? I don't think that's true. Of course Microsoft wants you to think that it's a premium product, they're raising expectations as a sales tactic. "How much would you pay for this all-in-one console? But wait! There's more!"

Xbox One Scorpio is using Jaguar and Polaris. It was very clear it was going to be $399 from that alone.

You'd have to be crazy to think this wasn't coming. People with a strong pro-Sony attitude were the only ones hoping to sow doubt that MS would be dumb enough to launch another $500+ console.

Nah, some of the most die-hard Microsoft fanboys on GAF are still clinging to $499.

Nah. It went like this.

Most people actually thought it would be $399 from the outset. It wasn't until DF gave their prediction, when people started doubting themselves and went to $449.

Not quite sure what you're asking, but I'd argue that there's a lot more shifting for marketshare between gens than mid-gen, although we haven't really seen mid-gen upgrades before. If people buy PS4s to play with their friends, a reasonable price for a more powerful Xbox means little.
Sarcasm

Just ignore them. Shook about the price so now these people have to go back to bashing the games.

You cannot make the argument that Xbox One has, or is currently going to be getting, more truly exclusive-to-the-console titles than the PS4.

If you're talking about value, it may be better to build a decent PC and save the money from the XBL subscription, and still be able to play most of the same 'Play Anywhere' games.

Sure?

Was just asking a question amigo.

It's actually very rare for the strongest console to sell the most. PS4 was an anomaly in that regard.

Giant Bomb Geoff seems to be overthinking this. More like they designed it for a $399 price tag right from the get go.

inb4 $499

Is it really so hard to think there are people who want a high end machine that ISN'T a PC. I'm so tired of this JUST BUY A PC!

I don't want to buy a PC. I want to stick a box under my tv that plays games. Done.

I pretty much always assumed it would be 399$ and that they would need to take a hit for mindshare, i didnt even give another price point a thought.

I have a gaming PC and I will still get them on Scorpio. I hate using the W10 store and I'm not the only one.

399 would be a really good price. Really good.

No plans in upgrading my PS4 Base any time soon but Microsoft has been doing a lot of good lately.

Like I said in the last few threads on this topic:

Y'all crazy if you think it'll be a dime over $399
.99
.

In what way is it unexpected?

It's slightly more powerful than a Pro which released last year for $399.

XB1 had a bad launch at $499, why would they repeat that?

I was definitely expecting more than 400 but I'm not shocked if it comes in at that price.

Also, expecting companies to just do smart things because dumb things don't work isn't a reliable strategy.

Look in this thread, lots of people think that it'll be more than $399.

I'm talking about price to value ratio. Scorpio being $399 would eat all of the Pro's value unless Sony drop to $299 but even then I imagine the general masses will still see more value in Scorpio.

There's not a cat in hell's chance it'll Catch up to PS4 though in terms of sheer sales. That I agree.

Scorpio will never sell more consoles than XB1S, Switch, or PS4 Slim.

This pro version of the XB1 is still a niche product and not anything that will turn sales around.

$399 is a fine price for the product. Anything more is obnoxious.

Why wouldn't it be 399€? It's a year after the Pro and consoles above that pricepoint always had trouble with sales. 499€ would be suicide. The question is: Will Sony drop the price to 299€ (for a limited time and the holidays)?
