I don't think Play Anywhere cuts into their Xbox sales very much. PC gaming is huge, but most people are playing DOTA clones and MMOs on integrated graphics cards. The Xbox is for someone who wants to play Microsoft games on their TV without investing in a rig.

As someone who thoroughly enjoyed the Original Xbox (XBMC ❤️) and Xbox 360, I'm liking the current direction of the company. Then again I always have a soft spot for the underdog.

This E3 is going to be insufferable isn't it?

Between the and the recent BC threads the console wars really have begun. Warriors ensemble.

It's gonna be amazing/ly bad. Just relentless Xbone/PS4 argument threads with Switch fans popping in to do free PR and blather on about BotW's metacritic score.

I still have no idea how this box has any value to people beyond the most hardcore of Xbox fans. It's like some three year late reaction to Steam machines that themselves didn't go anywhere.

You need to understand something.

Microsoft does not care if you buy one of their games on PC, or Xbox ONE.

They're a two-platform company. If you're buying on PC, you've bought into Windows 10 and help them gain a gaming foothold against Steam. If you buy on XBox, you boost their foothold against Sony.

The XBox is for the audience that isn't going to consider PC as a realistic option. It's hitting at an entirely different segment of the market on price, and selling to a whole other set of demographics.

I understand what you're going for, but W10 is a far more wide spread and general use OS and was even free for a time, and it's not like you're force to buy titles like Quantum Break on the windows store either, since it's also available on steam.

As far as cost and demographics, you're probably right, people will pay for the simplicity and ease of use of a Scorpio and XBL, rather than build a comparable PC and save the subscription cost a lot of the time due to different demographics.

6 > 4 ?

I don't expect them to supply huge stock in Europe. They know that it won't sell here, especially at that price, so it makes more sense to shift stock to the US.

That would definitely be a way for them to compensate for loss per unit. That would also mean next to no marketing over here.

I wasn't even planning on picking up the Scorpio since I love my pro so much but at $399....shieeeeeet. Hope they keep the name too.

MS PR worked wonders.

They have definitely been feeding into the narrative of "premium this and that" to put the expectation of a higher price on people's minds. The day of the teaser people were literally saying to expect 600, and anything less would be a great deal. When they hit people with that 400 dollar price they will definitely have all the attention.

Scorpio will never sell more consoles than XB1S, Switch, or PS4 Slim.

This pro version of the XB1 is still a niche product and not anything that will turn sales around.

$399 is a fine price for the product. Anything more is obnoxious.
Oh no I agree. I'm talking purely of Scorpio Vs Pro sales. IF it launches at the same price as the Pro I can see the general masses preferred console to be Scorpio.

That MAY give MS a push to make the next gen consoles even more powerful than they thought, because A) Sony will want the power advantage back and B) MS will feel like a more powerful console sells the most.

Idk I could be horribly wrong.

I'd be surprised if it's 399, I wonder if they gimped the specs a bit if so. We'll have to see I guess, but it would be an interesting and necessary move from MS. I don't think they'll topple PS4 this gen still, but they could at least regain some relevancy if they play their cards right.

I think googling it to come up with that one magazine that happens to have the "under $400" cover is taking it a little far. Probably just a happy coincidence. The rest sounds right though, and it still better be $399.

]I'm talking about price to value ratio[/B]. Scorpio being $399 would eat all of the Pro's value unless Sony drop to $299 but even then I imagine the general masses will still see more value in Scorpio.

There's not a cat in hell's chance it'll Catch up to PS4 though in terms of sheer sales. That I agree.

With what we currently know about Xbox's first party and exclusive software lineup, that price to value ratio will solely be in the eye of the beholder.

Currently software wise Sony/Nintendo have way more buzz at the moment.

So unless they unleash the Kraken this E3 with a blowout of new games that blow our minds on scorpio outside of crack down and SOT I don't see Sony worrying.

A price drop to the PRO i think is imminent the question is will Scorpio push it to be sooner rather than later.

Cool

Fist bump, now I need my PS4 games on PC too, haha. Oh..and Nintendo, where's my all in one system where Nintendo/Sony/MS join forces, lol :(.

Yeah, not everyone here is endlessly a sarcastic ass.

Was genuinely curious why people might choose to play on Xbone if they have both. I haven't turned on my Xbox one in easily over a year and a half.

Yes, because many people don't have a gaming PC. The casual crowd buys consoles, not computers to play games.

Get that. He has both, that's why i was asking why you'd choose Xbox if you have both.

399$ is the sensible price. Pretty sure Microsoft's executives are intelligent enough to understand that price is the main factor when releasing a console. At least I hope.

Don't care about this 6>4 thing though, they could have gone without it. People are losing their minds over console wars over here. This thread is almost Gfaqs' territory, it's quite sad actually.

It'll never be $399 though. This is just the Carnival of Stupid 2.0 based off a picture of an 80's robot... Personally I hope I'm wrong.

Why wouldn't it be 399€? It's a year after the Pro and consoles above that pricepoint always had trouble with sales. 499€ would be suicide. The question is: Will Sony drop the price to 299€ (for a limited time and the holidays)?

Here in the UK and Europe, Sony are temporarily dropping the price of PS4, PS4 Pro and PlayStation VR next week. Theu are doing a price promotion on a limited edition PS4 in the US. They have so much more wriggle room. I think it's highly unlikely Scorpio and Pro will go into the big buying season at the same price.

Pro will definitely be able to undercut whatever they release the Scorpio at.

Yea, agreed to an extent. My thing is if they don't have some amazing game to show off that you can't get anywhere else that makes a big case for Scorpio then I don't see this thing selling outside of the hardcore crowd.

Choose your tribe! Console wars are serious business.

Yeah I've been guilty of this in the past, but now I just want to enjoy the games.

This gen I've gone PS4 >> PS4 Pro and XB1 >> XB1s and will be getting a Scorpio when it's out.

Plan on getting a switch after more games are out for it. Just too many good things to play to worry about warz lol.

MS reveals its 399 price tag for Scorpio at their conference... And Sony reveals a worldwide price cut for PS4 and PS4 Pro at their's the day after.

And then, the meltdown. The cries. The rage.

It will be fantastic.

Quantum Break is an oddity, since it was technically a second-party title and Remedy still had autonomy over the title, separate from Microsoft. First party games like Forza, Gears, and (presumably) Halo are going to stick with W10.

$399 would be an incredible price. The value proposition, if you disregard exclusives, is pretty crazy. UHD BD drive, 6 TF, potential HDMI 2.1 support and play anywhere titles. Can't really beat that. Necessity is the mother of invention indeed.

I just bought a UHD BD player but will return it... don't know what i was thinking, even at $499 i would have bought the Scorpio.

I always assumed it would be $399 anyway. It's coming out a year later than the Pro, so that price makes sense, and it's not a big enough leap in power to warrant a $500 price tag.

I expect Scorpio to sell a bit better than the Pro because MS is really pushing this, whereas Sony just threw the Pro out there with little fanfare. Pro will probably drop to $349 as I don't see them being able to drop to $299 outside of special holiday deals like during Black Friday.

Just like with the Pro, Scorpio is a niche product and I hope people don't actually think it's going to sell better than the One S and PS4 amateur.

Why? Everyone expects a price cut for PS4.

Interesting.

I love my PS4 but I don't want Sony to get too comfortable in that lead position. This should keep them right on edge.

Why it would be a meltdown? Cant compute your logic.
