Verge: Xbox E3 teasers contain hidden Project Scorpio messages (and sick PS4 burns)

Shaking my head. Does Microsoft really think that they can win back market share by winning the mid gen spec war? Consumers care about games, price, functionality, and ecosystem. Those who care that much about top of the line performance will mostly play on PC.

They need to show exclusives to rival Sony and demonstrate that Scorpio performance is drastically better on multiplats. Or a cool functionality hook that matters to consumers like the Nintendo Switch.

Also, I really hope that Flop War is not the modern Bit War.

Let's go MS, kick some sony ps4 pro ass...LMAO, I mean you came out at the same time and got the brakes beat off you, so you come to the party a year later hoping Power is the answer.

How can you burn a company that beat the brakes off you when you squared up one on one?

My blood pressure just went up reading this.

I'm struggling with the idea that the $400 robot thing isn't a coincidence...

If it's a legit part of their marketing, then it isn't anything short of masterful

Yeah everybody is now on that "Pfff offcourse its 399" bandwagon. Pretty funny.

Not me. I still find it hard to believe MS would eat that big of a loss per unit to push this. Especially since their UWP strategy is clearly all about pushing Win10 while breaking with the convention of true console exclusives.

I'd love to see 400 though.

No, I drink to forget the Switch port begging so that's under control.

"Is Sea of Thieves coming to Switch? I'd love to play this at the park! I don't see why Crackdown couldn't work on the Switch!"

This is so painfully accurate. Great now I need a drink haha

Yeah I've been guilty of this in the past, but now I just want to enjoy the games.

This gen I've gone PS4 >> PS4 Pro and XB1 >> XB1s and will be getting a Scorpio when it's out.

Plan on getting a switch after more games are out for it. Just too many good things to play to worry about warz lol.

I suspect that Amazon will have pre-orders for the Scorpio the moment it's announced at E3.

If they have the $399 SKU available (as opposed to a $450 or $500 2TB SKU) I'll order it on the spot.

$399 would be an incredible price. The value proposition, if you disregard exclusives, is pretty crazy. UHD BD drive, 6 TF, potential HDMI 2.1 support and play anywhere titles. Can't really beat that. Necessity is the mother of invention indeed.

I just bought a UHD BD player but will return it... don't know what i was thinking, even at $499 i would have bought the Scorpio.
Oh yeah $399 would be killer, but a man can only hope and pray.

Microsoft is certainly heading into E3 with confidence. We'll see if they have a message and reveal that justifies the hype around Scorpio. It's definitely metric tons more hype than Sony generated around the PS4 Pro.

This further convinces me that once the reveal is live, we will see Microsoft position Scorpio as a new generation console. Maybe the last generation, but one that will feature Scorpio and PC exclusive content sooner than we think. While I originally believed that Crackdown 3 would be a Scorpio exclusive, that really doesn't make sense. Even with a launch that sells out their entire supply, that's still not enough consoles to really support the game.

But maybe that is the point. Crackdown 3 is the only game I have seen that might mobilize XB1 and former 360 users that have jumped to the PS4 to embrace Scorpio as their primary console. And honestly, as popular as Crackdown was, that might still be asking a lot. Not releasing CD3 to the XB1 might alienate gamers instead of drawing them in, as it kind of undercuts part of what Microsoft's vision of generationless consoles.

But there has to be some point, just like in PC gaming, where devs feel free to develop for higher end hardware, leaving the old hardware behind. But it will take third party publishers willing to develop for Scorpio and PS4 Pro exclusively before a new generation is actually born. And Microsoft is hoping the 6 > 4 will turn the tables on where gamers mindshare resides.

I think the odds are, Microsoft is willing to consider Scorpio a soft launch, with Scorpio 2 ready to go the moment Sony announces the PS5, again trying to beat Sony in the power race. Will Sony adopt Microsoft's generationless consoles? Because the Scorpio 2 may be even more attractive as a console that just rolls every game you are playing onto the new platform, with maybe even better performance.

I have no idea if this is going to work out well for Microsoft, but as loyal Xbox gamer, I like that they seem to be doubling down on gaming consoles going forward.

there are only 10 types of people.
Those that understand binary and those who dont.

Xbox Two S. though i could easily See Xbox going Xbox 10 because they love to hurt people with OCD.

Xbox
Xbox 360
Xbox One
Xbox 10

Interesting.

I love my PS4 but I don't want Sony to get too comfortable in that lead position. This should keep them right on edge.

It won't. Like the $400+ predictions for price, you should take GAF opinions of what Scorpio will do in the market with a heavy grain of salt.

What are you shaking your head at, the system haven't even been properly revealed yet? Just wait a week...

Yeah it's kind of silly. We will see at E3 but if they don't back it up with new software and just go on about power then it's Mattrick level bafoonery.

It was always going to be $399. The whole "premium" schtick was specifically delivered to make people think it'll cost more, so it looks like a "bargain" when it's announced. But it was always going to be $399 from the start.

6>4 is a sick burn? Uhm ok.

Also i wish they would put this much effort in their first party lineup.

Yeah this is one reason why my xbox is largely neglected. Not many first party games. Currently multiplatform games are better on ps4. So hopefully they not only show that the Scorpio is a worthy upgrade, but they have some nice exclusives worth getting for it.

This.

Edit. What side are you on?

As long as everything 3rd party comes to the PC so I can clean up the IQ and play at 60fps I couldn't give two hoots.

It's gonna be amazing/ly bad. Just relentless Xbone/PS4 argument threads with Switch fans popping in to do free PR and blather on about BotW's metacritic score.

Lmao basically. I'm just gonna sit back and watch most of it. At least it will be entertaining.

you are kidding right? Pretty sure I've only seen him complain about anything xbox.

*babycrying.gif*

I'll stop complaining when they give me reason to.

Man Gaming side is becoming really hard to read lately with all the console warrior bs. Some of the exchanges in this thread are embarassing.

Thinking about it now, $399 seems achievable considering the Pro did it a year ago. It would also be an insanely good decision considering that so many people are expecting a much higher price point, I know I was initially. Could be a proper megaton announcement.

My PS4 is making fun of my OG X1 and it most likely losing its spot in my main entertainment center.

Poor X1....stop it PS4....be nice.

Meanwhile, the Wii U is in my kid's room asking if it is getting a friend to hang out with on their dresser.

The gaming PC is just sitting there trying to rest....randomly telling the other 3 to shut up.

Aww, someone sounds upset.

The funny thing of being a console warrior is to be kind of subtle.

Jeff from Giantbomb had the theory that XBOX division went to the higher ups and basically said "look guys, if we want to be competitive with Sony we're going to have to sell this thing at $399 and lose money to gain mindshare."

If that's true, then wow. MS is not playing around when it comes to gaining that good will back. Now I just hope they're not banking on Sea of Thieves and Crackdown 3 to be their only flagship titles. They need a steady production of 1st party games if Scorpio is going to succeed in NA and globally.
I don't know if the higher ups would say yes 15 years into the competition.

They would be idiots not to price, at least a base unit, at $399.

I still expect a $499 sku with an elite controller and possibly larger hard drive (probably one or the other, to be honest).

Yall so weird, man.

And as people already pointed out. If you put in google it links to this.

here is the original magizine if anyone is curious.

no variation of that code comes up in searching the document, so make of it what you will.

Sorry Microsoft, but while you were floundering with the X1 and prepping the Scorpio, the Switch showed up and stole your spot.

Make it 399 and I'll switch from the Pro. I've missed that controller, and I'd love to have access to my old 360 games again.

I use my Elite controller on my Pro with an adapter. I used the PS4 controller for the initial set-up and like 5 minutes of Horizon before getting my Elite hooked up.

MS reveals its 399 price tag for Scorpio at their conference... And Sony reveals a worldwide price cut for PS4 and PS4 Pro at their's the day after.

And then, the meltdown. The cries. The rage.

It will be fantastic.

For who...? Ps4 price has no bearing on people who want a Scorpio. Idk why people who want a Ps4 Pro would be mad at a price cut.

Yall so weird, man.

X-D

I forgot to mention my Vita trying to get everyone's attention...crap.

Edit* Funny story, I thought my daughter lost (or got it stolen) my Vita at school on "electronics day" a couple months ago. Gave up on finding it, which SUCKED. Turns out she had stuck it in the bottom drawer of her computer desk. Ran across it cleaning up 2 weeks ago.

So happy to have it back.

Does $399 matter if Sony goes to $299?

Yes, it does. Despite its last-gen CPU, $399 is a proper value proposition for a 6 TF conspole in fall 2017, like $399 was a proper one for a 4,2 TF console in fall 2016. Is Sony going to lower the Pro's price tag? Of course they will, at least during holiday.

I'm not taking that price as confirmed quite yet. I'm hopeful, but I've seen more convincing coincidences end up being irrelevant, so I don't want to be TOO hopeful.
