Very late to the party: "The Last Samurai"

Finally watched it last night. I avoided this movie like the plague simply because Tom Cruise was the main character and I'm pretty damn sick of seeing him in everything. lol. Anyway,
I ended up loving it. I guess I'm a sucker for movies that have some sort of purity to them. I really loved the way the Samurai were portrayed.

Special honors go to this man:

Loved his character.

bought this movie (dvd) cheap. passed on the movies. GRRREeeeat.

very emotive. sad as hell towards the end though.

Loved the scene when
the Ninja's attacked! I was like "OH SHIT!! NINJAS!!"

I mean if that doesn't put it over the top, I don't know what does. :lol

I love it too. A great blend of cool dramatic sequences and peacefulness. Good actors too.

I saw an even better samurai-movie last week, though: The Twilight Samurai. Compared to The Last Samurai it's much more down-to-earth and emotional, and has even better acting. It's not as beautiful, but that doesn't really matter. It's fantastic anyway!

Loved this movie too. Ken Watanabi is the man and I can't wait to see him in Batman Begins. Tom Cruise was good in the film too, but as someone who studies martial arts, has learned to use a sword, and knows what kind of work it takes, I was pissed that he bacame so good so quickly. :D

Best part of the movie: ZOMG NINJA!!!!!!!!!!!111!

Worst part(s): Tom Cruise can apparently beat master swordsmen by pure luck despite being injured and disoriented. And let's not forget about the ending
lol America sucks GO OLD SCHOOL JAPAN. Now if you'll excuse me I have to go fuck the wife of a man I killed purely through dumb luck

Ash Housewares

The Mountain Jew
ending sucked, but thats ok, by virtue of the title you knew there wouldn't be any real samurai left, no surprises

great movie, better soundtrack

The movie was good untill, after a week of training, Tom Cruise becomes the ultimate samurai while the wife of the man he killed falls in love with him. Maybe if they hired a real actor it would have been more believable.

Cliche filled and trite. Made me want to use a sword to let my guts out but instead I fell asleep.

Exactly. However, I am still eagerly awaiting "The Last Nigger on Earth" starring Tom Hanks.

Yeah, if I recall correctly Cruise was there for awhile. Till the thaw out at least.

Loved the movie, liked it a lot more than I expected. Loved the comparison of war/philosophy of swords and a war and philosophy of guns. The diffference between a learned skill and point & click killing.

Awesome movie.

The ending was kind of lame, but it didn't really bother me that much either. Couldn't take away from such a fantastic movie.

That was the best part. I wish modern society was really like that. =_(

Thats the reason I loved the movie so much.... it made me challenge my beliefs and whether anything I do is good for society or simply just good for myself.

...You know, the fact is, the movie taught a horrible, horrible lesson, and nobody really seems to notice that...
