Very LTTP - The Playstation Vita

It's not that I regret purchasing my Vita, but, man. What a bummer of a system it has been for me. I've enjoyed a few games on it (MGS2 and MGS3, some Spelunky, Rogue Legacy and Isaac) and I have a good amount of games bought to play some time in the future (Danganronpa 1, P4G, God of War Collection, Digimon Story CS, Gravity Rush, Persona 2 and 3, Soul Sacrifice, Ratchet & Clank Trilogy, Trails in the Sky, Guacamelee, FFX/X-2...). But I just can't find the time to sit down with this thing, or I already have a much better version of those games on PC. Maybe I'll give it more use now that I've got a PS4...

The 3DS absolutely killed the Vita for me. For every game I would like to play on Vita, there are 10 on 3DS I would play before. And that's not counting the DS, VC and injection possibilities.

... also, Vita homebrew is dead on the water. What a waste of potential there. It could have been the best portable emulator ever.

Let me know what recommendations you have for a new Vita owner. You can leave out the obvious stuff that already frequents "Top 25" lists, let me know about lesser-known gems. Thanks! :-)

RPG/RPG like
Persona 4 Golden - it really is as good is the hype
Atelier series of titles, start with Ayesha if this is your first
Final Fantasy X/X2 HD
Freedom Wars - Under-rated imo
Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth - Havn't played VITA port, but PS4 version was great

The rest
Danganronpa 1, get 2 if you like 1 - strange but fun
Tearaway - Great game with charm
Gravity Rush
Muramasa Rebirth
Thomas Was Alone - Strange, but worth sticking with
Woah Dave!
The Swapper
Hotline Miami 1 and 2
Frozen Synapse Prime - turn based fun
Rollers of the Realm
Fez
Nova-111
SteamWorld Dig
Bastion
Hohokum
Rayman Origins

Could also recommend a ton of PSOne classics such as Chrono Cross, Suikoden etc...

I love my Vita. I wanted a handheld so I bought a 3DS this year but I just couldn't get into it, so I traded my XL for a Vita and I never looked back. The hardware alone makes all the difference, but the games are more up my alley too.

All available in Japan. Only the blue one came over.
Ah, yes. Thanks. I think I may go for the white one. That orange one is tempting also.

Playing Hotline Miami is on the Vita is the best way to play that game. Couldn't play it on a pad afterwards. I did love the time I had with my Vita. Would have kept it to jailbreak but was just as easy to play roms on my Xperia Z3 with a DS4.

OP here. This is the one I started with, OMFG SO GOOD! I can't believe I didn't play it through sooner. I'm about halfway done, Chapter 10 and I believe there are 20 chapters.

I also started Tearaway, first hour or so, very charming.

I went a little crazy buying games, some physical some digital-

Thomas Was Alone
Severed
Dragon's Crown
Persona 4 Golden
Danganrompa 1 and 2
Lumines
Muramasa Rebirth

....

Plus some Plus games I had apparently redeemed including Uncharted, Wipeout, Gravity Rush, Soul Sacrifice. Wish I kept that a habit, didn't redeem later games cuz I thought I was never gonna buy a Vita til this impulse came over me last week.

I'm gonna be busy for a while lol. I'm glad no huge games are coming on console til Deus Ex.

I mean, you can play Grim Fandango on the bus. It's wonderful.

Exactly what I've been doing the past couple days and I can concur.

Can't speak for Tearaway on Vita, though I know it gets tons of love, but Tearaway Unfolded on the PS4 is fan-fucking-tastic-- easily in my top 5 from last year-- so I imagine nothing but good times with the original.

That list is also really solid, mate. Some really meaty games on that list. If you enjoy Thomas Was Alone (I played it on PS3) and want to show Mr. Bithell some more love, I heartily recommend Volume; bought it on PS4 at launch but since it was cross-buy I only fired it up recently on my Vita and it was perfect for it. A solid stealth puzzle game that is easily played in short bursts and works great as a break or palate cleanser from some of those larger games.
