so it didn't exist? so every motion venture Sony makes after is "teh copiez"?
Don't know how you got didn't exist from not focusing on it as much as Microsoft.

There should be some big ones.
My source was willing to commit to a number on the bandwidth:
176 Gb/S
Essentially 3GB of data per frame. Pretty crazy people
See: Bethesda.
I don't know the specifics yet.
Honest I wasn't fishingJust nice that it isn't just devs bursting at the seams.
Some western developers as well. It is going to be a whole different landscape this time.
Hmm. That's actually an interesting option.I'm going to predict that MGS5 is going to have a next gen version exclusive to Orbis near launch. I can see MS doing the same for Witcher 3.

I generally thought third party exclusives had gone the way of the dodo. But something like that - "next gen" exclusivity - might work. It would mean that third parties would recoup their costs using the mature 7th gen platforms.
Question about fast RAM:
What does it actually accomplish? 176Gb/S is really, really fast isn't it? Why exactly would they be going for something like that?
One place I think Sony could really improve is through courting indies and letting the openness of PSN compared to Live shine through. Make patching certification faster (or gone) and cheaper and you've already made your platform get updates more quickly and more often than your main competitor. I know a lot of indies haven't gotten into the console space because of this and with F2P possibly becoming big next gen it could be a boon for them.
They really want to enable easy creation of 1080p 60fps games. GPU will have all the data readily available for such kind of fast rendering, with plenty RAM space avaiable for advanced effects, nice shadows, good AA, etc.

I would like to believe this but I have seen to many friends stare in awe at the screen with the Kinect hand swipe

LOL at the thought of Versus. That game is about as good as dead and multiplatform by this stage. Keep waiting. Once Final Fantasy XIV is finished, Versus will get the attention it deserves. For now, its a dead horse.
Only games that are simplistic will be 1080p 60fps, most complex games will be 720p 30fps with a few being 1080p 30fps.

Believe me, there are many people who are literally busting to tell you about the games that are coming and the sheer power of the next gen systems.
Everyone involved wants the games enthusiasts to get excited again.
they did? where did you read that?

720p will likely only happen for some 60fps games. 1080p/30 will be the standard next gen, especially with bandwidth like Orbis has.

Nope. Developers will choose prettier pixels over more more of them.
But not 1920x1080 all the time.
Honestly when I saw Phantom Pain/MGS 5 the first thing I thought was
"Sony will probably put so much money down on this" lol
I would be happy to know if this exclusive that Sony has apparently courted is a new IP or something that is established. Can you guys at least share what kind of games they are? Their genres.
Nope. Developers will choose prettier pixels over more more of them.
I don't expect any truly big staple franchises will be exclusive though.
Too much money to potentially be lost
Any exclusive deals will be made with relatively unknown IP or weaker IP, which costs less to secure.
Don't expect much if anything from Sony outside of usual DLC exclusives
Microsoft may be able to court Epic again, but it won't be a Gears title, and it'll cost them a lot of money I'd imagine.
But not 1920x1080 all the time.
3gb per frame for a system that will have 3.5gb usable to the game, is insane
I want a minimum resolution of 1280x1080p..
192 was honestly overkill and I don't know how Sony could have afforded it. Your getting about 4.5 GB of data per frame with 192. Thats more ram than the system even has
176 seems just right. Your getting 3GB of data per frame which is still a pretty crazy amount.
This will prove my theory then. Are you really excited for the reveals or are you dying to let it out?
Clock speed/bandwidth adjustments at pre-production = heat management within final casing design.
Nope. Developers will choose prettier pixels over more more of them.

Serious question-
Is there any reason to be optimistic about Sony exceeding target specs?
I'm betting most devs will have more have enough overhead in the bandwidth to increase the resolutionNope. Developers will choose prettier pixels over more more of them.
I called it a month ago. Sony systems will bundle a VR headset: Whether its Oculus Rift or a Sony proprietary, Sony will deliver.
Standard edition (no VR) $399.
Pro edition (with VR) $599
That has been my prediction and I'm sticking to it.
~300-400MB per frame in a 60fps game for systems that have only 470MB of usable game RAM was also insane. [PS3/X360]
Can you guys at least share what kind of games they are? Their genres.
That has already been announced as multiplat. Doesn't make sense.
These exclusives will be brand new.

Nearly every gen has at least doubled resolution and 1080p is in line with that number. 720p aren't even going to be produced after this year. Both consoles specs really seem to look like their aiming at 1080p. I expect 1080p to be more common than 720p was this gen.

Things are different now, diminishing returns is coming into place. Devs will need more and more powerful hardware to deliver noticeable improvements in visuals. Why half the amount of power available to increase resolution(720p to 1080p) when they can focus all additional power on more poly/effects to deliver a noticeable improvement in visuals?
I want a minimum resolution of 1080p.
720p is simply unacceptable in this day and age. It looks absolutely horrendous, unless you have a plasma TV.
I'm just going off of rumors surrounding both hardware configs. Usually custom, especially more complex, boards cost more than less custom, simpler designs. Add in the possibility that every Durango SKU may have a Kinect, and I think it's reasonable to think it'll have the higher BoM.
A lot of those extra effects would go into minute details that would be barely noticeable in a 1080p game.
If you want to know how great 720p game can look, look at this video [action starts at ~50%]:
http://cdn2.gran-turismo.com/jp/local/hk-zh/data2/movie/20101225/gt5_ags2010_pv.mov
720p can look magnificent if IQ effects are cranked high. And those are PS3 assets, imagine this game with 5x more detail on enviroments and effects [destructible cars, fluid dynamics on smoke, realistic grass/dirt particles, etc].
Didn't GT5 run at 1280x1080 or something?
Many of the television owners in the US still own SD televisions (iirc, that number is dated but it is definitely above 30%). 720p outdated? No -- you're on GAF; thus, you are removed from reality and not the norm. 720p looks fine.
I think we'll see more variety and interesting combinations from developers that play to the strengths of the genre/engine. I don't think 1080p will be the norm.
