VGLeaks: Durango's Move Engines

Oh I know exactly what he is talking about. There were a couple of Ms patents that did in fact show a multimedia console with like 3 cpus and 3 gpus.

The misterxmedia guys 'insider'(I think they are the same person lol) then came up with all those numbers, I think that website you linked actually used misterxmedia's blog as their source.

just so some posters in here are aware - this is not what a fanboy is. a fanboy is you getting upset over this video. the dude reps just about every other platform out there without pushing any in particular. he's just loud about it.

He's clearly out of the loop when it comes to Xbox. He stated in a previous video that he would only buy an Xbox if it gets a NFL 2K or Final Fantasy exclusive. He also don't know that Microsoft has expended the number of 1. party studios.

So he's clearly out of the loop.

LOL you just linked to your youtube video.

Some believed that the PS3 would be raytracing or possibly voxel or NURBS based. They just wanna believe.

That's really cute. Even though that would be kinda awesome, no developer has any meaningful experience working with any of those techniques in games. Those are things that have to work on a PC first.

Wow, how the hell did anyone believe that? a ray tracing chip?, really?.

All because of the mentioning of "special sauce" and some people finding patents from MS for ray tracing. They assumed the special sauce was a raytracing chip (lolwut). The entire thing is hilarious as hell. I've seen people swear up and down raytracing was coming and Durango would be doing the typical next generation scene (3GB of data per frame plus) ontop of raytracing all on 1.2TFLOP of power because of this magical inexpensive chip that no one in the world has made nor heard of and will debut in a console of all places.

Ludicrous doesn't begin to describe the madness.

the compression is slower then i original though

the 200MB/s and 372MB/s numbers are the after decompression numbers so the increase in bandwidth is going to be minimal :/
It does alleviate using the GPU and CPU to do the task and helps with moving data between eSRAM and DDR3.

Btw is it even true that developers cant code to the metal.
I mean it is generally known that the press thinks this for the 360.
But it has been debunked by multiple developers on B3D that they are allowed to code to the metal how else could they use the VMX(simd) instruction set on the 360.

It is certainly just them adding the thoughts of that NVidia blogger to their article.

Apparently, that is so they do not hog the hog the bandwidth from the other parts of the system. At least that is what some are saying on B3D.

True, but its worth mentioning that Orbis also contains a zlib decoder. It might even be using the same chip for all we know.

what i posted right above you is really worth mentioning, i like to make a note and point out when both consoles are going to have a same/similar feature so theres no confusion.

Depends what you want to do with the ray tracing chip.
You could use it to trace only light bounces in a voxel representation of your level where in each voxel you encode the color of the light for GI. Caustics has if im not mistaken working raytracing hardware.

Like in this video. UE4 GI model was based on this. But rumors has it its not in for next gen consoles.

Realtime raytracing like in movies you can forget about that for this gen.
Games use raytracing for a lot of things better visibility culling/checking for AI. But im not sure if they are that common to warrant specialized hardware for it.

But for this gen i dont think there will be raytracing hardware. Im actually kinda disappointed for both consoles. Expected atleast both to have 2+ Tflops gpu with maybe ps4 pushing for 2.8(HD7950) and microsoft 2.5(HD7870) or so.
