VGLeaks: Durango's Move Engines

We're not talking MS/Sony here though but rather questionable sources (SuperDAE). I dont have a dog in this fight, PC gamer here. But yeah it's clear you seem to rooting for a certain platform and it's absolutely fine.

I'm already sold on PS4 which will be my first purchase. But I'm still keeping an eye out for the Durango.

Just sit back and enjoy the console, cold war buddy:)

word? I had you pegged wrong then. I figured you were pro-Sony. Not because of the avatar though, I know those are for fun.
I was pro-360 during last gen reveal and based on what we're hearing pro-Orbis right now. But anything can change based on the reveals coming up so I'm all for the taking, impress me and take my monies MS/Sony. :P

Also look for me in the PC (GPU) threads.

oh, no doubt. Orbis seems like a sure bet right now so I feel you on that. I was just saying that I figured you as being pro-Sony though I guess a more appropriate term would be pro-Orbis. I understand that there's a difference between looking forward to one console over another and being a full on fanboy.

Who are they? Are they developers?
SuperDAE was the person who sold one of the earliest Durango dev kits. His information since that has yet to be proven to be accurate. Not many trust him due to the nature of his tweets (SDF/XDF) but his recent tweets have given hope to some.

The other guy was apparently one who got hold of Halo copy. I dont know anything else beyond that for his rep.

Correct. One big reason I'm pro-Orbis - http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=465532

Claims to have a Durango unit.

These people are most likely lying, both Microsoft and Sony check regularly for dev units in each company. If there's one missing (as the guy who sold it seems to claim), the companies will know and very heavy sanctions will be imposed upon them. They are also very well tagged, so MS will know which one is missing and the place it's missing.

Also, we are talking about a machine that is not confirmed of existing, these will be even more rare, and there's no way that MS would have let a supposed dev kit of being sold. Developers who are not directly involve with the development of a next-gen game are not even allowed to be in the same room as the machine or even see it (it happened with Vita, now, imagine how strict would be with a console).

As I said, these people are most likely lying. Or basing on very old specs.

Actually SuperDAE's devkit was real.

More likely on the bolded part. Like I said, SuperDAE is yet to present any leak/info that turned out accurate after that incident.

I am wondering, how did this one person get a dev kit that is tightly-controlled?

superdae never sold his dev kits. The person that offered 20,000 got to him and then MS go to him soon after.

MS got to Superdae?

yep, he met with MS soon after that whole ebay stuff and then he deleted or deactivated his twitter account for a while or deleted all his posts.

God dammit. My kinda big write-up was for nothin'! But I am still wondering, how did he get it in the first place?

Devkits are marked, so if he got it via via, then he burned them. Kind of scummy.

Indeed he did. The studio that lost it probably had to pay a fee for giving it to him and maybe not even get another until the dev kit was almost finished.

Remember the whole point of Durango is that it's not supposed to "currently exist". SuperDaE broke that illusion earlier than everybody.

Still, it doesn't mean he's still right, unless he knows someone who knows stuff, or he is a dev himself. The article you showed me is from July 2012, and 6 months have passed, much could have changed.

Sp basically he is not credible anymore.

I doubt he was able to get a Dev kit without knowing some other people who had Dev kits. So while I have no idea about the validity of the stuff he's posting I'm sure he knows other people with actual up to date kits. Having said that, I still wouldn't take his word as gospel.

But then we have MTW joining in. So it's been upgraded to 2 guys.

Is his real name known? Because if it is, then MS might have a tighter grip on people who are close to him or know him.

If he thinks the Durango is more than what people are saying, and he's basing it on an OLD build. That would mean newer builds are probably even more capable than what he saw.

Sooooo......

Just pointing that out.

I've actually been thinking that SuperDAE got a hold of instructions to build a devkit, and then got a hold of the drivers Microsoft created for it. I think that's basically how Microsoft got devkits out at the event last February. So he wouldn't have been selling Microsoft owned hardware.

So who to believe? If DF is lying... Then they are also lying about current Orbis and Durango specs.
Why is DF lying when in fact they question that specific bit;

DigitalFoundry said:
Beyond that, further information is sketchy and unreliable. DaE reckons that the current devkits were dispatched to studios in February, and feature Intel CPUs and a graphics card that carries the NVIDIA brand - but he doesn't identify either part more specifically. He also claims that the Durango kit features more than 8GB of memory (other sources have suggested 12GB), and that it is 64-bit in nature - at this point it's worth bearing in mind that dev hardware typically features double the RAM of retail kit in order to accommodate debugging tools and other systems. DaE also says that Microsoft is targeting an eight-core CPU for the final retail hardware - if true, this must surely be based around Atom architecture to fit inside the thermal envelope. The hardware configuration seems difficult to believe as it is so divorced from the technological make-up of the current Xbox 360, and we could find no corroborative sources to establish the Intel/NVIDIA hook-up, let alone the eight-core CPU.

So the question mark is still on SuperDAE.

Nice loophole.

But then bkillian did say they had Intel in the devkits.

BTW... I know DF isn't lying.

They both sound like Microsoft unofficial tools.
With Microsoft unable to answer to leaks through official means (major nelson and whatnot) until they unveil the system.

Superdae getting his hands on a real devkit sounds so fishy if he's not affiliated with them somehow, it all sounds like a clever marketing stunt to force Sony make the first move. Everything sounds so strange about these leaks.

Then again, I might support the conspiracy theories because I prefer to believe what DAE and MTW are saying :-P

that would explain why he contacted an attorney before putting it on ebay.

Not necessarily. As it happened with the PS3, if I'm not mistaken. Sony nerfed some specs in the last minute, for some reason.

So, MS could have nerfed them to keep prices low, or by other reasons.

And Kaz said they'd let MS do the first move. Haha, oh man.

Actually...wasn't it the opposite for both. Early plans for 360 was 256mb RAM, and Sony was NOT going to have a GPU in their system at all.

They both increased RAM to 512 and Sony added a GPU at the last minute.
