VGLeaks rumor: Durango CPU Overview

It's highly likely he (Ryan) knows (from his contacts/sources) even if he isnt involved directly interfacing with a devkit/next-gen game.

Can there be any question that the console cold war is over, and that full hostiilities have resumed, given the microscopic parsing of semantic content for even the most banal of Tweets.

Vive La Revolution, GAF!!!

Cry Havoc, and let slip the Dogs of War!

Slightly more powerful doesn't match vindictive justice. I think it's more likely Ryan is just making fun of fanboy strife over next generation's perceived power gap.

343 dude is damage controlling. That's a very salty comment.

they follow each other and worked at the same company for years, I'm sure they are friends goofing around.

edit: going through scott_343 tweets, he tweets to ryan alot

Scott Warner ‏@scott_343

@ryanpayton @GavinC343 You can certainly count on a lot of ass grabbing if you employ GC.

I agree. I read Payton's tweet as being very much "tongue in cheek". Furthermore, I think his budddy from 343i studios replied with a healthy bit of friendly sarcasm, playing along.

yes, but if hes part of the halo team, that mean other teams exist.

I would assume they are working on more than one Halo game. No doubt work has begun on Halo 5, but they've spoken about exploring other genres already so they'll definitely have more than one team. Considering the name 343, they'll only be working on Halo.

Halo 4 is an Xbox 360 game. And I am not sure if you want to give a former employee information which is protected by a NDA.

Uhhh, do you honestly think 343 did not have Durango devkits until after Payton left?

Here we go with everyone over analyzing a tweet, this is getting beyond sad now. I think you all need to take a break go play some games seriously.

really. 2 buddies having a chuckle about what appears to be the state of gaming forums now. And those same forum goers blow it out of proportion, adding a meta almost inception-like quality to the whole thing.

Trust me, Ryan's first tweet was serious.

When one company reveals nothing about their new console, while the other one has... Grasping for straws at any possible hint is quite normal.

Because the Durango news thread has been a ghost town for a while.

My take on it. Either post specs or don't make stupid hints.

Saying one is slightly more than the other just sends a ridiculous wave of fanboy, geek driven torture. Seriously I hope we get a leak soon because the debate is reaching new lows

I don't think theres anything "useful" here in the last 30 pages or more. To be honest this thread now looks like a stealthy console war.

Looking at the whole conversation. Doesn't really sound all that serious to me.

I'm not sure why Sony aren't capitalising on this. Trickle some other information out. At the money people are discussing what they don't know about Durango rather than the ps4

Whats even worse is that is doesn't matter which is more powerful, most won't be able to tell the difference unlike last gen. Most of the parts from confrirmed and leaked specs are almost identical. Third party devs will just pick the easiest to work with and go from there. unless you're some digital foundry fanboy who likes to count pixels it's pointless.

I can't wait until MS officially makes it's press release so we can finally focus on the stuff that really matter like the GAMES.

Time to fly back from Seattle. Stay locked to The Verge early next week. That's all I'm saying.

That tweet was from Tom Warren of the Verge who focuses on Microsoft products. Could be anything, but who knows, maybe Xbox related.

I would not get your hopes up about this being related to the next Xbox. Microsoft will unveil it at a big press event (most likely the big one rumored in April). It won't be revealed through one journalist at the verge.

If you are that emotionally tied to any company (let's say Sony or MS) I think you'll rationalise your love with whatever those companies' eventual console will be.

So if the power is lacking (by whatever crazy measure people apply) you'll say "well check this Twitter integration out".

And if the Twitter integration is lacking (you get the idea) you'll say "check out these FLOPS boy".

I'm relaxed about the whole scenario; as I've previously said they'll both scratch different itches!

well, WHO'S SIDE ARE YOU ON!?

In this topic? I give up in this thread. I'm looking forward for the next Xbox. But you wil not see me in PS4 threads trying to downplay it.

About as stealthy as a modern Splinter Cell game.

haha

I don't know. I see a obscure future for the internet gaming forums years ahead. I would love to see a split in neogaf with Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo individual sections.

I was kidding, poking fun at the craziness within this thread :P. I'll be buying both systems whenever I can stroll into a store and buy them without waiting in line.

That's absolutely not true, and I don't know how you can say something like that. If the specs are real, we will see two consoles with one being considerably more powerful. The architecture is similar, but if anything this even widens the gap between both consoles.

Good specs -> Nice graphics, better physics, bigger and more diverse worlds, better AI, more NPCs ... in GAMES. Of course if you don't know much about this stuff, it's hard to get excited for it...

And do you really think Third party devs are going to go out of their way to make all those stuff better on the PS4 if it's more powerful?

First party sure but third party will try to make everything identical, I'm just going from what happened this gen.

, ...

You are overstating.

I wager MS did not engineer a machine as a whole that would considerably under perform the best they could imagine Sony producing. If you believe that they did not work with developers on what would be needed to reach parity to MOST PEOPLES NAKED EYE in all of the most inportant third party games, then you are mistaken.

A year from now we will be reading digital foundry reviews just to identify the differences just like this Gen.

That's the point: They don't have to go out of their way. The architectures are extremely similar, you would probably get better performance with the same code. And they can do a lot to improve the graphics without much effort, simply by changing some values in their development tools. It's not like they have to produce completely new assets from ground up.

First party sure but third party will try to make everything identical, I'm just going from what happened this gen.

One word: Competition. Every third party dev has to compete with other third party devs and first party devs. And you can't compare this to the current gen, because the console were more similiar power wise (not architecture wise!) and the PS3 was a lot harder to develop for.

Those rumored specs tell a different story. It seems Microsoft does not care what Sony can produce, instead they are developing their own vision of a console with moderate specs and new non-gaming features.

Ryan's tweet doesn't sound like he's confirming anything, just commenting on the passive-aggressive formula for the console wars.
That's what I read. I was wondering why people were over-analyzing a simple tweet. It doesn't even actually imply he knows anything in detail - it simply seems like commentary on the console wars.

Unless you are working on a next gen project you do not get to see the dev kits or even go in the same room, they have pretty strict NDA requirements around them.

I would honestly be surprised if the Halo guys weren't the first to get kits even just for preprod of Halo5. It's still MS's biggest card to play (non casual at least) so getting it out there asap has to be a priority.

I don't think we will see a two year gap between console release and Mainline halo like we did this gen especially with a Gears this late in this gen they won't have that to be the big game in the interim.
