He talking about how well his game run on the hardware
Well, that's a shame.
I hope this won't result in diminished 3rd party support like with the Wii.
Also, I'm amazed by how Nintendo manages to release a console 5-6 years after their competitor, and yet only make it only "on-par".
Why would you expect anything better than 360/PS3 performance? Look at the size of the unit and look at that controller. It's smaller than a 360 and the controller is more expensive to build than any current gen controller. Nintendo's not going to lose money on the hardware.
If this was indeed about his game and not about the console itself, I would tend to agree with this. I'm going to parse through it now.I cant believe a mod would make a thread title like that when everything we know say it not, why are you feeding the trolls?
yeah im sure they would have to smash their piggybank to produce small efficient hardware that surpasses xbox 360.
I find it hard to believe that a Mod would create a thread like this. Kinda shows how crazy things are these days.Either way, all that interview tells us specifically is that they didn't do anything to improve the graphical aspects of the Wii U game. Same basic assets of the PS3/360 version. No one should be surprised by this. They'll focus on the controller aspects of the game with the time they have and not the graphical stuff. We all already know the Wii U is more powerful than the current gen. This shouldn't even be debated. It'd have to be more powerful to render both the main screen and the small screen at the same time. Ultimately, the question is going to be by how much (that can be debated, but it'd have to be pretty beefy to render both screens at the same time).
People keep talking about how Nintendo makes old hardware, when their history says otherwise. Sure, they didn't bother with the Wii, but outside of that their hardware has pretty much always been relatively beefy compared to the competition. But you know the saying...you screw on sheep....
Nintendo is not in the bussiness of smashing Piggy-banks. Everyone should know that by now. Nintendo is all about profability, not making losses.
Yep nintendo is exeptionally cheap.
i remember when the 360 came out. it did well, but everyone was anticipating the ps3 more than anything else. lots of comments were made about it being the xbox 1.5 and games that didn't do the hardware justice were constantly made the subject of ridicule. then e306 happened. a combination of the general badness of the conference and the realization that the ps3 would not have games at launch that looked as good as the ones in the e305 trailer soured a lot of people on the machine, and the 360's reputation as the hardcore console of choice began to solidify (at least early on).
i expect people will have similarly high hopes that will be dashed by the reality of the next generation.
What if he's just talking about how easy it is to work with? You know, so far the hardware's been on par with what we have with the current generation's.
Based on what I understand, the, you know, the resolution and textures and polycounts and all that stuff, we're not going to being doing anything to uprez the game, but we'll take advantage of the controller for sure.
If you don't have a serious heat sink and fans to move heat from the GPU to outside the case you have to reduce the clock speed of the GPU. Using 28nm and they could bump up the clock speed but the first WiiU out the door is going to set the performance level for the WiiU even if later versions could run faster. Same is true for Next generation from Microsoft and Sony. After the Wii I can't believe Nintendo would make the same mistake twice. And how can it be only in PS360 level when it has 2-3 Tim's as much ram and a way more modern GPU ? I don't get it...

If this ends up being true, you'd think Nintendo would learn.
If only a few of the big developers/ publishers who have their hands on dev kits had the balls to say to Ninentdo: "Look, if you want the best chance of us releasing our multi-format games on your console past the first year, put a bit more power in this thing".
I think Nintendo has learned that it's not about catering to the dedicated gamer. Leave that nonsense to Sony and Microsoft. It's all about creating the next "Wii". Something that will get people talking, and sell units to those who normally wouldn't purchase a gaming system. It doesn't matter if third parties aren't fully behind it. All that matters is the machine and their games are selling.
I honestly believe Nintendo will surprise us (and the industry) not with specs, but with the launch price.

And that's the billion dollar question: Will a tablet controller really get people talking?I think Nintendo has learned that it's not about catering to the dedicated gamer. Well, even though Microsoft has never had a problem with money, the games division was still far below profit after the release of Xbox 1, so they took a risk. Nintendo is swimming in money, and they must look at the sales figures of 3rd party games on other consoles with a little bit of envy, as any 3rd party title on Wii that isn't Just Dance isn't much of a platform-holder-royalties earner. Nintendo is being innovative with its controller but very conservative with the console - they could certainly afford to beef it up a little more, and the last generation should provide evidence that it shouldn't be a very risky gamble. Then Nintendo would tell them to put their money where their mouth is and pay for the upgrade themselves.
Nintendo is not like Microsoft who'll spend an extra billion on more RAM just because Epuic says so.

But can it run Crysis?
Yes, it probably will. That tablet will allow people to game away from the TV. Mom comes in and wants to watch her shitty TV-programme but lil Jmmy is playing Nintendo. No problem, lil Jimmy can continue playing his game on the tablet while mom watches Desperate Housewives or whatever.
For families where the kids don't have their own entertainment centre this thing will be a glorious solution.

Why doesn't Jimmy just play his 3DS?

So you're ignoring the bolded line?
The gaming handheld is already the solution to Mom's problem.Yes, it probably will. That tablet will allow people to game away from the TV. Because the next Call of Duty, Battlefield, GTA and so on are much surer bets for bringing in the big bucks than a tablet concept that has yet to be tested in the market. Perhaps the tablet will attract the same people who bought the Wii for its motion controls, but there is no guarantee. Plus it way easier for MS and Sony to add a tablet-like-controller to their next consoles than it is for Nintendo to add more power after release. Why would they ? Nintendo makes a killing of hardware AND software sales. They're making money hand over fist. Why should they look to companies losing money all over for inspiration on how to run their bussiness ? Has Microsift gaming division ever been profitable in the way Nintendo has ?
Yeah, but what kid nowadays doesn't have a tv in their room? Heck, the probably even have a smartphone/tablet, too lol. Gonna be an interesting ride.

There are still plenty of kids that don't have their own TV's. Kids range from 3-11. I'm pretty sure most kids under 8 don't have their own tv's.

Honestly you would be surprised how many do.
Royalties + having big 3rd party properties would lead to more hardware sales and a larger userbase
Because he can't play the same games he can as on Wii-U ? Why don't gamers still spend all their time on NES ?
What's the point? It's a vague statement, second hand information, and it contradicts an earlier statement by a more knowledgeable member of the same development team.
Gamecube had Mario, Mario Kart and many cross-platform titles that were on-par with the other two consoles, and yet was the least successful Nintendo console. The Wii was successful not because of those titles, but because of its ability to appeal to a wider market. Question is whether they can tempt those who were intrigued by Wii Sports and Wii Fit to buy another system - I don't think it is unlikely, but it is still far from being a sure-thing. Is the tablet the new wii-mote?Yet Nintendo doesn't need COD to turn a profit, nor do they need Battlefield or GTA. All they need is Mario(kart) and strong software that makes use of the new controller.
Both Nintendo and 3rd parties found out that they don't really need each other to make money and they both seem perfectly fine with it.
