Vince Zampella, video game developer behind ‘Call of Duty' franchise, killed in crash

RIP, a legend and very shocked when I heard.

Is that the actual video? There's reports that the video is a different crash from 2022.

Either way, you stand no chance with that much power and a car that's not designed with safety in mind. I know it can happen in any car but Supercars just seem fly apart when they hit something at speed.

Amazing how many people in this thread have never broke the speed limit. Those speed awareness classes in the UK really putting in work.
I don't think it's about broke speed limit but how much, where you did it and with what car. But I beg to say blame such behaviour is normal.

I wouldn't even dream of driving one of these types of cars even if I could afford one, basically a racing car with a number plate.

Honestly, there's far too much capability in these cars for public roads, so you can't even enjoy them properly in that environment, plus there's the added risk that you can harm other people who didn't volunteer to get involved in whatever it is that you've decided to do.

Just go to the track, and if you decide to do so get a racing license. Even if you have zero intention of ever entering any competition, it's worth it for the education and increased awareness that it gives you. After learning what I did when getting mine I completely stopped speeding on public roads. The surfaces (and the road tires that most cars come with) aren't designed for people to be taking unnecessary risks, if you make a mistake the ability you have to recover a car on an unprepped surface is very much diminished. The situation gets worse when you don't know a road and elevation changes/uneven surfaces/camber gets added to the mix.

It's somewhat ironic, because now I have a fast car I actually drive slower on public roads than I did when I had a much less capable car. Education will do that for you.

Not sure where you are from but this thing is coming place in the UK. Quiet country roads, lots of bikers and car enthusiast use these types of roads as their personal race track.

Not exactly city centre is it? You never seen Top Gear?

With the amount of people filming I'm guessing this was a popular spot, unless I'm mistaken, not looked into that much.

Maybe will be still alive if such stuff stop to be considered "normal" fun in public roads. There are dedicated tracks for such sport.

Yeah i'd agree with all that. That these cars are eve road legal is a bit ridiculous.

I used to drive an Audi RS4 and that shit was wild enough, never mind something like this.

I really miss your point in all honesty.
Accidents happen. you can't lock yourself away hoping you don't die.

You don't buy a Ferrari to go to the supermarket.

The degree of risk you are choosing to inflict on others is what doesn't apply to everything.
Dude in the passenger seat got into a supercar. He chose that risk himself. They are not driving through a Christmas market at speed.

They are road legal because most people who purchase them do so for the status/appearance it gives them. Most people aren't driving them like Vince did and most people certainly aren't taking them to the track.

But yeh, I've got a quadrifoglio, so similar category to your RS4. It's just a caged animal on public roads. But I'll tell you what, getting sideways in it on a track is a humbling experience (even in a safe environment it puts a little poop in your pants) and I think it should be a mandatory for everyone in cars over a certain level of power.

It's only going to get worse as more and more EVs get on the road (and I say worse because so many of these EVs are designed in a way that they are just pushing power without any regard for chasis/suspension tuning and brake/tire capability). It's a deadly combination of manufacturers not setting up their cars correctly for the amount of power they have, and consumers who won't respect the speed capability of the car they are driving.

The hell of stupidity you say. Like seriously. Sportcar don't give to you the power to broke the law and do whatever you want on the road. It's like to buy a gun and shot wherever you want.

EV's are wild man my brother has a polestar, its insane.

Broke the law lol. oh no!
Listen dude for what I care a single man can do what he want with his life. But if you put on the risk the other life for your fun you are simply an asshole, with a sport car or whatever. We live in a society not in an Hollywood movie. Said that it's a disgrace surely I haven't desire of someone dead even if I'm not appreciate some attitude.

Guess you don't do anything wrong ever. Must be nice being Jesus.

Mistakes are made, some pay the ultimate price.

If a helicopter/plane pilot makes a mistake it can harm other people, both in the air and on the ground. Hence, the key word here is mistake.

Honestly, I don't know how we got to a place where people completely lack empathy and decency towards the deceased and the families they leave behind. He made a mistake. Yes it's a horrible mistake to make, but it's still a mistake, and it cost him his life. Saying "fuck him" or words to that effect doesn't change what happened and it doesn't make things better (this isn't directed at you specifically, but I'm seeing this undertone throughout this thread).

It's better for those of us who are still here to learn from the situation and make sure the same mistake isn't repeated than it is to disrespect someone who has passed away.

The fact that it's a sports car (or supercar in this case) has nothing to do with it. There have been far more brutal accidents in every day cars that have claimed the lives of far more innocent people than this one did.

Making it solely about the type of car he was driving is completely missing the point of what the takeaways should be.

Park the bitterness/jealousy for a moment.

Are you really so dense? No I'm not doing anything who can put on the risk the other life, I know I'm a terrible moralistic.

Nope i just live in the real world.

Get off that high horse of yours and should some empathy.
Wut? High horse? Are you serious? A real world it's going at full speed with an expensive sportcar in a public road? Are you an Hollywood actor 🤣. I haven't showed empathy? I never said I'm happy about it neither I wish such stuff happens.

Going full speed in a Toyota Corolla on the same bit of road will net you the same result.

Again, you're missing the point here.

What point I missed? I just said going to full speed in public road it's extremely dangerous for the other life. I don't condemn him for anything, what happens it's terrible. But I have some difficult to excuse such behaviour.

You replied to what you say is stupid with something similar.

Guns are meant for what mainly? Shoot paper targets?? Or do they born to kill people? What kind of comparison is that?
Driving a sport car don't give you any power, give you the choice and the responsability. He choose to drive fast he paid personally the price.
Not to mention that from what we can see in the video:
1) Angeles Crest Highway is tipical mount track very far from cities where drivers go to drive fast knowing that there's not much traffic. Look at google maps, photos of that road are full of donuts in the asphalt
2) Jesus Chirst what kind of mad man places a cement Jersey in the external of a bend out of a tunnel???

Whatever, you seem to be slightly retarded so ill give you a pass.
Well you surely show some sign of sociopathism if I can say if we want really put this stuff in such perspective. Condamn a wrong attitude doesn't mean blame a dead man or accused him of something. But sure we can make a mistake as shot in the head of someone in the head when we try a new weapon and we want desperately use it. Because it's the "real" word right?

I'm never talked about him but only of stupidity of your arguments.

What's stupid is becoming fixated on:
  • Labelling him
  • The type of car he's driving
  • The cost of said car
Your very first comment in this thread makes reference to money.

See above. And it's not about making excuses, it's about showing some basic decency along with understanding what happened.

Listen I see the video. What he did is extremely dangerous. Now my apologies if I labelling him and I show some unrespect but what he did not seems lack of risk and my judgement about the money it's a personal opinion about the attitude of many rich people who really seems lose the sense of reality but again my apologies if it can seems a direct offense to him wasn't my intention. Surely I don't wish harm on anyone.
But reading stuff like this:

Dude in the passenger seat got into a supercar. He chose that risk himself. They are not driving through a Christmas market at speed.
I mean the same person call me retarded because I said it's an hell of stupidity to claim.

a corolla can't reach ferrari speed and performance
The ferrari in this crash wasn't doing "ferrari speeds" either by which I guess you mean their theoretical top speed. A Corolla can do 90MPH+ and has a lot less downforce too. Same result if the person chooses to go at those dangerous speeds around this road.

a corolla can't reach ferrari speed and performance

A Corolla also doesn't have the braking/cornering/grip performance of a Ferrari.

This video was posted above and should serve as a good reference point:

Speed alone doesn't kill, unfamiliarity with roads and driving dynamics/physics can often get you killed, regardless of speed. Not speeding only increases your margin for error and increases your survival chances.

Most fatal road incidents are in fact not speed related:

Speeding was a factor in 29% of all traffic fatalities in 2023, killing 11,775, or an average of over 32 people on a typical day. The total number of fatal motor-vehicle crashes attributable to speeding was 10,541. A crash is considered speeding-related if the driver was charged with a speeding-related offense or if racing, driving too fast for conditions, or exceeding the posted speed limit was indicated as a contributing factor in the crash.

I'm sceptical of the video too but it's difficult to tell. It kind of looks like somebody rushes out from a place where there were no people too which makes me think it's not the real incident. Plus why were they standing there filming in the middle of nowhere like it was a sporting event?

I've taken this exit myself several times to enter Seattle from I-5 traveling north. There are like 30 signs plastered everywhere with flashing yellow lights saying "SHARP TURN AHEAD" and "SPEED LIMIT LOWER THAN WHATEVER THE HELL YOU'RE DOING" and people just ignore every sign and fly down the exit and slam on their brakes and there's tire screeching noises as they barely avoid slamming into the concrete wall

It's a very notorious off-ramp and because it's in the middle of the city exiting from a section of I-5 that runs under surface streets there is no way to change the exit design and they have just kept adding more and more signs and flashing lights over the years but people keep right on crashing

You can't make humans look at signs which is why there isn't really any point to adding more signs to the Angeles Crest Highway and it's not like California will do anything anyways when that state can't even maintain existing infrastructure much less consider adding to it
Its pretty clear that this was a common place to see sports cars going fast.. so much that there was people filming... and it appears that this spot is known to cause accidents and people still do it ... so a few signs would do fuck all to prevent this.

This was not some weekend trip dad that coudnt make a turn because the "signs" fucked him up ... this was a rich man going really fast on his ferrari for the thrill of it on a dangeours turn.

And his grieving family will still have to deal with the other guys family suing his state for sure.

Think its a well known place. People spend their Sundays car spotting apparently.

Its definitely real.

This is so hilarious, do you think that this races happen only in Forza Horzon? That drivers in real life rewind? Don't you know that your beloved racing arcade games (those games where the only thing you need to know is step on the gas and move the stick to drift and make smoke without knowing anything of real driving skills) are not inspired by Toretto and Takumi Fujiwara?

So fucking senseless that I am more angry than sad. Feel so bad for his loved ones

I'm not talking about the passenger (assuming they knew the score).

Choosing to get your thrills driving like this on a public road clearly subjects anyone else using the road to a higher degree of risk.

If a helicopter/plane pilot makes a mistake it can harm other people, both in the air and on the ground. Hence, the key word here is mistake.
Sure, but we understand that not all mistakes are equal. If a pilot decides it would spice up his flight for him if he tried to fly under a bridge, then hits the bridge and kills a bunch of people on the bridge, we probably wouldn't say 'mistakes happen, it's not like he was trying to hit the bridge'. That would be to absolve everyone of responsibility for any degree of exposing others to risk, so long as they are not deliberately trying to cause the bad outcome.

I don't think we expect people to never do anything if it ever imposes any risk upon others, but with that comes an expectation that people will not be indifferent to the risk their choices are imposing upon others, and that it will be frowned upon if they do display that indifference.
