Vince Zampella, video game developer behind ‘Call of Duty' franchise, killed in crash

Jesus I saw the vid. It's still sad but come on man. You were 55, rich as fuck with a family and fulfilling career. You could have spent the next 20 years relaxing living the life. Wasted it to go fast in a car for 10 seconds.

Pretty much, although I would argue that without all those things your still a fucking idiot to do it. If you think about it for a moment, the consequences not just for yourself but for your passengers or the fucking family of 4 that could show up on any bend, you wouldn't do it.

I guess he didn't know this stretch of road? What a shame. Terrible corner.
Seriously. If you are actually going to roar down a winding mountain road like it's a car commercial or a James Bond movie, you would do well to drive the stretch first following the speed limit to learn the road before you try tearing down it at 100+ mph

As a gamer, Zampella should know better than anyone that you can't get good at Need for Speed or Burnout until you've raced the tracks a few times and memorized them

Completely agree. You should never really push it on a road you don't know. Fair play giving it a little beans but not pegging it.

Just, a terrible loss of two lives.

Never do it with a passenger either, wtf

Driving a new fast car you haven't got the hang of yet, over the speed limit, coming from a tunnel into the sunshine, and apparently not knowing or seeing what's in there. Yeah, that's stupid. Could have gotten even more people killed.

Rest in peace.

No it's perfectly reasonable at any age good lord. But props on never fucking up from 26 through the rest of your life. If only Vince could have been as perfect!
When the mistake ends in literal death, I don't think you can really use the 'I guess you've never made a mistake' thing.

A little too much finger pointing about the reckless driving here. You've all done something spectacularly stupid at some point and none of you would deserve a bunch of posts pointing out you were being dumb before your body was even cold. Are we all this desensitized at this point?

Dudes here trying to gaslight people into believing that not following speed limits is somehow a normal everyday thing that the average joe just forgets to do and could happen to literally anyone.

Might want to start obeying those dude, its really not hard. Is the number above the number on the sign? Take your foot off the accelerator and apply the break, keep doing that the rest of your life, its dead easy.

But theres a reason that this will massively dominate the conversation, and will forever be what hes remembered for.

The video of his crash is both horrific and idiotic. Dude shouldn't be doing that with 3 kids at home. Anyway RIP, absolutely tragic.

RIP. We lost a legend.

Happened very close to where I live. I've drove down that same highway many times before, it's very dangerous. The amount of notifications I get on my Citizen app regarding accidents there is just crazy and so frequent.

I don't think 'RIP' and 'yeah don't do that' are mutually exclusive.

If you wouldn't do it with a passenger, surely you shouldn't be doing it on a public road which has many other not-you people you could end up killing? The only thing standing between killing only yourself driving like this and killing an innocent (or multiple) is blind luck.

The above characterisation of driving like this as just 'being dumb' is very generous.

Vince and his team are responsible for the happiest gaming moments of my life, mostly with CoD. Many years of attending midnight releases with friends, staying up all day and night having a blast and creating memories. RIP Vince and Zach

The problem is that sports cars sound too awesome when you accelerate hard in a tunnel - like the Monaco Grand Prix. Probably should have a sign before saying 'slow down when exiting tunnel' but then I guess there might be one now.

Rip

Or maybe people can just follow posted speed limits which are there for a reason?
Why not both. Installing barriers in potentially dangerous places doesn't require an astronomical budget. Yes, speed is the main reason for fatal crashes, but like I said you can also get distracted (or in this case blinded by the Sun), have a slower reaction, slippery surface, an animal on the road or a sudden puncture. Letting the barrier take the hit is much safer than slamming into concrete or falling down the cliff.

Or they could at least make the bare minimum and fill the tunnel with warning signs, wouldn't be surprised if that happens now.

It's just common sense, and always been a rule where im from that if you are wanting to take your car out and go for a spirited drive, you always do it on your own. That's all I was saying.

If he had not taken the passenger out, they would be alive. It's as simple as that.

Yeah the lack of barriers was definitely the main reason this tragic situation occured :messenger_neutral:

Just respect the speed limit, don't go all mighty with cars far too powerful and you'd be alive for Christmas.

Sorry but it's so stupid to lose your life and kill others for a few seconds adrenaline.

Just be safe on the road that's all you have to do when driving...

Amazing how many people in this thread have never broke the speed limit. Those speed awareness classes in the UK really putting in work.

RIP.

COD4 will live on forever in my heart!

Also, respect the speed limit, folks.

Edit: sorry for multiple posts. I screwed up, lol.

Exactly. I've been doing it for years and I don't believe for one second, that people acting all sanctimonious haven't done it too. But I only do it by a significant margin on highways when I see the entire stretch of the road.

Doing it in a tunnel was way too risky, but it still fucking sucks, I hope both him and the passenger rest in peace.

Not do well, it's essential. Even a seasoned racing driver would not go full throttle on a course they haven't driven before.

Initially I had sympathy when I first heard about he was killed in the car crash.

When I discovered he was entirely at fault and killed another person, fuck him.

Play stupid games, win stupid prices.

Fuck anyone who thinks the roads are their personal playground. Want to drive fast? Go to a race track.
