"Virtua Quest is hard to recommend anyone, given its poor controls, lackluster combat, and unenticing world. Fans of the Virtua Fighter series are likely fans because they enjoy tightly controlled, challenging battles, and those fans won't find any of that here. While the character cameos are a nice novelty, they alone are not enough to salvage this flawed game. "

Very poorly worded conclusion, I have to say. Couldn't the writer find a synonym for "fans" instead of repeating it three times in a sentence? Gamespot copy editor must have been out to lunch...

Always referring to the same group, it makes sense and sounds right to me.

Fans of the Virtua Fighter series are likely devotees because they enjoy tightly controlled, challenging battles, and those aficianados won't find any of that here.

doesn't do anything for me.

How about...

Fans of the Virtua Fighter series are likely as such because they enjoy tightly controlled, challenging battles, but there is none of that [in Virtua Quest].

Wow, this one setence sure has provided an convenient distraction. Way to go, Teddman.

For Sega's next raping, why not present an SD, cel-shaded version of Panzer Dragoon, but focus on some funloving kids running around while Dragons soar overhead - that you never ride. That would be about as appealing as a Virtua Fighter game where you don't play as the main characters and totally distort the fiction that the previous games have built up.

that would have made a perfect closing statement to the review

I'm sorry, they have copy editors? Reading some of their reviews makes me want to take out a red pen and make corrections all over the place, and I'm not even a fucking teacher.

I thought the combat was pretty fun when I played it at E3 but this game was and always will be a severe disappointment since it was so far off from what we expected.

So did Sonic Team and well Sega as a whole, but lets face it, Sega hasn't exactly been setting the world on fire with many of its games recently.

Sonic Heroes is the only good thing Sega has done in a while - commercially speaking that is

Outside of Outrun2 Sega aren't giving people many reasons to continue supporting them. Surely its about time for a new wave of games not based on licences and remakes?

People still care about Sega??
Sega has disappointed, but I don't get why people are just writing them off. They've still got a lot of talent around. Definitely potential. Another VF, another Panzer, etc. All possible, even likely.

Feel the Magic is the only reason to own a DS right now, so I'd say that's a pretty good reason they should still be around too

Apparently this game got delayed at EBgames and isn't being carried by GameStop as of now. That's fairly pitiful. They should throw it in a landfill.

I think people tend to exaggerate Sega's problems. AV and what was formerly SmileBit have really been bright stars within the company. Two of my favorite arcade races of this generation were made by Sega (Outrun2 and F-Zero GX.) VF4 is the most satisfying 3D I have played IMO. We also got SMB and PSO this generation. They've struggled, but they haven't become dog shit yet.

With that said, I think they should be ashamed about Virtua Quest. The concept actually sounds neat on paper, but the execution missed the mark by a light year. I would pick this up if they had actually managed to extract the things that make Virtua Fighter awesome.

Seriously, leave the first repetition of 'fans' alone. Feel free to cut the second, though.

Agreed. Almost anything coming from Amusement Vision is going to rock, same with almost any arcade games from AM2 or non-Sonic games from Sonic Team. Outside those 3 Sega's looking rather shakey though.

If you look at the ratio of "good stuff" to "dog shit" right now, and compare it to the 1999-2002 period, you can see a pretty definate trend.

Hullo Shard.

And to be honest, I hadn't really heard much about it in a few months. I enjoyed Virtua Fighter 4 quite a bit, and when I heard about the new game and the ideas they had for it, I was a little interested. But when I saw the direction they had taken with it, it basically dropped off my radar.

Sega's not dead, they're just hit and miss when they used to be mostly hit.

'Fans of the Virtua Fighter series won't find the tight control and challenging battles they're accustomed to.' How hard was that? Much better than 'Fans of Virtua Fighter are fans because these fans enjoy the fan favorites, but those fans will not be fans of this game, fans.

Hey, give me a break. I'm working with another person's sentences here. My point was just to show that you don't need to simply find a synonym for each "fans".
