Visual Novels Community Thread | A Little Something for Everyone

It doesn't really matter in terms of continuity. The connections between them are light and work just as well no matter what order you play through them.

Thanks! I might save E17 for last, then, since that seems to be generally considered the best.

Real happy with the Clannad physical edition, it came out great. Got #108.

Glad to hear it! Mine has an estimated delivery of next Thursday, so it'll be a little bit before I have it...

Yes, over 50 hours can be 55 hours or 100 hours. I'd like a more accurate estimate.

VNDB estimates aren't useful for much more than a ballpark range. And it's difficult to judge most VN lengths as they rarely have timers in them and the time is takes for someone to read something can vary significantly.

Well, "between 60 to 80 hours" is better than "over 50 hours", I just want to get an idea of how long it takes.

Hi there.

Saya no Uta was my first "reading a VN for the sake of the plot" experience too back in 2010, and my reaction was quite similar to yours (it also made me a Gen Urobuchi fan for life). A few things in response to your big post.

I totally agree about the porn scenes you mentioned. Saya no Uta is a weird case where about half the porn scenes feel vital to the story to the point where it wouldn't work without them, and the other half feel like they were shoehorned in to meet a quota. As for the "seeing Saya drives you mad" thing, people only snap after seeing Saya when they're already in a really stressful situation. Kouji is aware of himself enough after killing Yoh to defend himself against Fuminori. The text actually does make several references to Lovecraft works, but most of them are things that actually exist that Lovecraft references in his works, outside of one reference to the Silver Key.

Thanks for the reply. I think it's possible I was taking some of the writing a little too much at face value in regards to the characters' "sanity".
The text/narrator says Kouji went insane as soon as he saw Yoh's new form, but like you said, he could still handle himself and put up a fight even after that encounter. So in that sense maybe it's not completely debilitating. Obviously the lasting effects were huge and the guy nearly couldn't handle the aftermath (and ended up suffering from vivid hallucinations), but for some reason whenever there's talk about "sanity being shattered" I imagine the person in question being reduced to a gibbering mess – unable to speak or handle themselves anymore. Clearly not the case in this story though.
Glad I'm not the only one in regards to some of the h scenes. That one I mentioned in particular definitely felt like some checkbox they were aiming to clear. It's a bit of a shame.

I could never play Clanaad for over an hour. Maybe because I strongly disliked the anime....most of the time i was thinking "Is this supposed to be sad?"

With a surprise to absolutely no one, the Beastmaster Kickstarter failed...

Shortly before, many pledgers received this message:

b2g studio, Inc. says:
Hello,
Thank you for your support during this campaign, we noticed you were very active and helped us a lot.
When we launch our future projects, more than anyone else's, we would like to ask for your cooperation. Would you be interested in keeping in touch with us after this campaign is over?
Let us know what you think.

Can they not... do it themselves? They already have another campaign, and most of my posts were related to how the Kickstarter won't make it/improperly run etc

Not sure how much an overlap there is, but a bunch of TCG products for Steins;Gate 0 and Chaos;Child went up for preorder for April release. Mostly sleeves, some deck boxes, a card storage box, and a mat.

TCG stuff usually sell out of preorders, and almost never get reprinted.
Personal highlights: Maho, Amadeus, ...and the only Chaos;Child sleeve, Serika

My Clannad CE arrived today! I was a bit concerned when I saw it was in a bubble mailer (shame on you, Sekai Project!) and it had been shoved into my mailbox (shame on you USPS!), but fortunately it only has a little dent on one of the edges. Otherwise, it looks great. Glad to finally have it in hand, and it will probably be what I get started on once I finish this last route in Fruit of Grisaia.

Does mangagamer no longer gives out Steam copy of games?

They had a bunch of issues with credit card fraud and had to switch payment processors because of it. They've said they would like to recontinue selling Steam keys on their own store, but they need to find a better way to handle the fraud issue first.

So uh, the guy in charge of translating Aokana, uhh accidentally deleted 40% of the scripts. So he made a blog post about it, and people are getting angry at him calling him a liar. He did apologize, btw. Not to mention he is doing this in his spare time, so he doesn't exactly owe anyone anything.

Yeah, that sounds like bullshit. After he delayed it despite claiming to have finished it, I suspected that this would never get released. That's looking pretty likely now.

I don't think it's right to immediately just say it's bullshit. I don't see any reason to assume he's lying. I think it's wildly inappropriate to just call him a liar. Unless any evidence comes out, I will continue to believe he's telling the truth.

It's a sketchy project that already had red flags. No, I don't believe that they really lost half of the project work with no backups. There's little reason to give such a flimsy excuse the benefit of the doubt.

Maybe I haven't followed it closely enough. Without enough information I don't feel comfortable condemning someone as liar. That's the only reason I believe him.

I certainly think it was stupid to not make backups, if it's true, but I didn't think he was lying. Although so many people are calling it out as bullshit, so maybe he is lying.

I think it takes a real effort to make something be permanently lost on Google Drive too, not something that should happen accidentally.

It says it fucked him over which seems to be implying things just went missing, which doesn't make any sense to me.

I don't think (at least I haven't found) a way to one step delete on google drive, you would have to delete something then empty the trash to totally delete something. Only thing I could think of is he had the folder marked for google drive sync, had some sort of drive issue/deleted that (which also would require a shift delete to be permanent, requires work) and it wasn't syncing correctly.

ChuSinGura 46+1 has a Kickstarter up. 210k goal. For Steam, so probably based off of the Vita version.

Apparently the group translating is the people behind the subpar Amnesia translation....

First of all, thanks to everyone who pledged and viewed our Kickstarter. Since launch, we have received outside funds, and as such, we have decided to relaunch with expanded reward tiers and a changed Kickstarter amount.

Now that I think about it, what happened to the Beastmaster one? Are they going to reattempt that as well?

Oh, they learned how to cancel a Kickstarter. Some people were telling them to cancel and relaunch a better Beastmaster Kickstarter, but they insisted they couldn't.

Is there any way for the people running this Kickstarter to not be the ones to relaunch it? Because I don't have any confidence in them at all.
