Vita "hacked," (PSP) homebrew on the way (not piracy)

So,

I have SNES9XTYL and GPSP, what are some other good emulators?

I am not interested in emulating any hardware that predates the Super Nintendo/Sega Genesis generation. I got started gaming during the SNES/Genesis period and have no interest in playing games that predate the 90s.

Thank you in advance.

Where did you download a Vita compatible version of DGEN from?

I've been dying to play some genesis on the Vita but every version of DGen I've tried downloaded failed to run on the Vita.

Thank you in advance.

You won't even try NES/Master System/Atari games?

I'm having a problem just installing the FTP thing. I copy it over with the Urbanix hack but when I press X on it it doesn't do anything beyond extracting the files - doesn't show me a ftp address or anything.

Download a different one then the one that's on his main page, check forums for walk through and get a new FTP file. Happened to me as well.

I personally think PicoDrive is the best for Mega Drive/Genesis.

I forgot where I got it from originally (for my PSP), but it's DGEN 1.7 Lite. Should be easy enough to find. It runs pretty good for me on Vita.

I am having some trouble with GPSPKai. I am running the Mad Blockers Alpha exploit.

I have it In .ZIP file lined up as GPSPKAI.ZIP/PSP/GAME/gpsp kai/eboot.pbp

I have no idea where to put my roms or the bios. The snes emulator I have working had files ready for roms, saves, etc. Do I just put them in the same folder as the eboot, or am I supposed to create a new folder for each?

Need some advice. Im still running Rev A of the urbanix exploit btw.

So I made a backup of a game but I must of made a bad iso with umd gen. Anyways I got it to transfer with FTP app and since it might be a bad made iso, when the exploit tries to activate, the screen remains black instead of booting into the menu of homebrew.

Is there a way to delete iso in the ISO folder found in root of psp emulator or did I eff it up? As long as that bad image remains there, it seems the exploit wont work. Any advice is welcomed.

Seems like a new exploit is going or will shortly go out via Ninja release.

I'd like to not depend on my MBA exploit since its tied to PSN+.

So PicoDrive for Genesis.

Aside from Nester, SNES, GPSP and PicoDrive/DGen are there any other emulators that are awesome?

Lastly, is there anyway I can change the Madblocker Alpha Icon on the menu?

I hate how all my homebrew are 144x91 resolution icons while the Madblocker Alpha icon is a 90x90. It looks out of place.

Thank you in advance for your help. Looking forward to finding out the next Exploit and I hope it's a sexier looking game/icon than Madblocker Alpha

Format the memory card?

Or go into the FTP and delete it there? There isn't a need to format if it's in the iso folder since it's in the PSP folder structure the FTP app allows you to access.

He said that the exploit won't even load for him. If he can't get to the menu, then he can't run the FTP application.

Edit: Wait, misread.

^hmmm. Weird, wouldn't removing MBA from the card, deleting whatever is in that exploit folder, reputting MBA on the card work? Formatting the card seems a little extreme for something like getting the exploit to run.

Do the emulators run better on the Vita or the same? The PSP SNES emulator for example suffered from slow down on many games. An easy test would be to fire up Earthbound and see if there's slowdown during the first battle. Harvest Moon too I recall had slowdown, glitchy graphics and mistimed music.

I always thought the 3DS was going to be hacked way earlier than the Vita but it actually seems like Nintendo did a good job with it's security this time. The homebrew scene on the 3DS is non existent.

I know this is only the PSP emulator hack but the Vita is probably a lot closer to being fully hacked than the 3DS by now.

I haven't played my Vita that much, and frankly there's not many games on the horizon I'm interested (Most Wanted and Soul Sacrifice), so I'm wondering about getting some emulators...

Ever since this hack, I've just been playing Yoshi's Island, more-so than any actual Vita game. Although that will change when Need for Speed comes out.

What about online gaming? Will you be able to play Vita games online if you have this hack/exploit enabled?

Just wishing someone would get to work on that region lock. Feels a bit backward that the system that got this right, got hacked first.

Yeah...Nintendo stance on region locking is just absurd by this day and age, but unfortunately it seems like a work around won't happen anytime soon.

I still have to buy a 3DS. I'll probably do it when Fire Emblem releases. I wonder if I should get the regular one or the XL version...

So if I missed out on buying Urbanix while it was on the store I'm out of luck until another exploit is discovered? Was going to see what I could jam on my 4GB stick before my vacation next month.

You're out of luck until another exploit is discovered unfortunately.

Probably people are more interested in hacking the Vita than the 3DS because it is far more compelling hardware.

The options available for homebrew and emulation are huge.

But... isn't this exactly the same as 3DS allowing DS R4 cards

If I got a new Vita and decided to deactivate the old one (to free up activations) with MBA I should still be able to transfer files with FTP right?

If you deactivate it, you won't be able to launch MBA to even start FTP I believe.

Can you deactivate it while it's offline?

Would be a hassle, but if so you could maybe keep wifi disabled until you want to use FTP. When you transfer files, unplug/disable your Internet connection to keep the Vita from going online and you should be able to use FTP through the local network?

Unless FTP requires an internet connection, but I'd imagine it would work fine on the network.

No, you need to be online to deactivate. Otherwise how else would the server know which system has been activated or not?

He needs to keep the system activated so that he can launch MBA, which in turn is needed to launch FTP, etc.

I was under the impression activations were handled remotely and just tied to the account. Could have sworn last time I looked at the page for activations it had both my PS3 and PSP on there even though neither were turned on.

Edit: There is a deactivate option while you're offline, but it might make you turn on the system or something (or you can just do the deactivate all thing mentioned on that page).

That kind of explains it, but from Devices -> Playstation Systems each one has a deactivation link so you might not have to deactivate everything (probably will though).

Not quite.
On the SEN website you can see all system that are currently activated.
You can "deactivate" (more like reset) all systems like once a year or something, in case you don' have access to the system to deactivate properly.

That's an option I suppose.

So if I turn off the WiFi on my current Vita then deactivate all of my devices through the SEN website I should still be able to launch MBA? If so I'll do that since I also need to deactivate a PS3 that I don't have access to.

There's a central server which keeps tracks of your activated devices. You can't deactivate from your own device without being online to tell the central server that you are freeing that slot. Whenever you deactivate your device FROM the device itself, you can't launch any content purchased from that account.

The only exception is, deactivate from the Qriocity page (can do this once very 6 months) AND NEVER EVER get online again with the "deactivated device". Since it won't be able to reach the central server to check it's been deactivated you'll be able to launch your content without a problem.

I'll do that, thanks.
