Vita "hacked," (PSP) homebrew on the way (not piracy)

Well this is interesting. All the PSP games I downloaded from PSN actually appear in the Games list when I trigger the exploit with Ben 10 and start my PSP environment. So I can launch the exploit trigger game Ben 10 from inside the exploited environment which is triggered by the exploited PSP game. This actually triggers the exploit again and restarts the custom firmware.

We have to go deeper.

This is nifty. Nice to have Phantasy Star Portable 2 playable with remapping the dpad to the right stick!

so this means i'm off PSN once the next required update rolls around, right?

lol

the dude should probably stop being an asshole and develop real software for the vita.

hacking handhelds doesnt make any sense these days, and he knows that. All it'll do is make developers NOT make more games for the platform. Look at the PSP for christ-sakes.

Your demands fall on deaf ears.

I already have a psp3000, but I have a Best Buy gift card that I'm trying to figure out how to use. I would get a 3DS, but it's region locked so I'll pick that up in a few months when I'm back in Japan, so I was thinking of getting a Vita while on sale, but aside from FFX (I would play on my PS3 but it died) I can't think of any reason to get it. Does the PSP homebrew make use of the vitas higher resolution display? Does it get better battery life? Or is my money better spent on buying a gimped PS3?

yes, the reason why there's no software is because everyone is busy hacking their vita to play Phantasy Star

in a perfect world, people would care about Phantasy Star that much ;_;

I just got my Vita today. Guess I missed the train on this one. :/ Ah well. Here's to hoping for other exploits in the future.

The firmwares are what get patched, not the games themselves right? Thus they usually get readded after the fixed FW is out, right?

If so, then I imagine someone should be able to keep their Vita on 3.01 and wait for the games to be readded to the store after a new FW is released. When that happens, using this would allow them to get the game while staying on the exploitable FW, wouldn't it? http://wololo.net/2013/12/14/new-way-to-download-games-to-your-older-fw-ps-vita-no-proxy-required/

Not sure how it works, but I imagine you'll need to update your firmware to have access to the PSN Store. Didn't quite understand how the guide in your link works since it's for content that's already in your download que. Is it possible to buy content through, say a PS3, and then use the "trick" to transfer the game to a PSVita with an older FW?

It should be. Use OpenCMA and connect to the PC with the Vita, then unplug it and plug it into the PS3. It should jump straight into transfer mode on the PS3 and skip the verification and you can transfer stuff.

Not a "good" way to go about it, but it still works as far as I know.

Quick Question:

With the TN releases is it still mandatory to put all the content into the save file in one go or does the XMB uses the USB option to transfer files? Asking because I recently heard of TN on the vita and wondering if they have that feature.

Pretty sure video out hardware mods have already been done for both 3DS and Vita. You can send your Vita off and get it done (or buy a Vita from the people who do it and pay for the system + hardware + labor) but it's not cheap.

this article makes it sound a little crappy:
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-ps-vita-video-output-mod-review

but if other people are using it to stream on twitch with no problem, then it's worth the price to me.

Jeez, what costs $400 to make this mod? I would totally mod my Vita for TV out if it were cheaper.

Not sure but a few things seem to add to it. You have to send it to Japan and they send it back EMS or something. The job also looks about perfect, just a little usb port (not a TV out actually) added on the bottom and no other signs of modification. They have their own software too, it looks like.

Oh god, I would pay so much money for that.

I mean, not THAT much... but if they've worked out how to do it, surely it can't be one for a user-moddable version to come to light. But to get me to hack away at my own Vita, that's another story. I don't think I could destroy something so well-built.

Maybe I buy an IPS Vita for it ;) Or just a Vita TV.

Wonder how soon it'll be until they find a way to break the freaking save lock on games to where they aren't tied to the "bubble"/game, app itself and I'm able to back up my saves without having to back up three fucking gigs of a game as well. >:|

It is a bit crappy, Jeff Gerstmann was streaming OlliOlli with it earlier, and was complaining how USB2 doesn't have enough bandwitch for full res video.

PS Plus is really the most convenient way to do that. Just back it all up to the cloud automatically. And the service is worth paying $50 a year for many times over.

Wololo is getting ready to do another ninja release for another kernel exploit game. This one is apparently only available in the North American store, though.

New exploitable game is FIFA 11. Available on US and JP PSN stores, $29.99 USD.

A bit steep, but if you really want the exploit this will be the last opportunity for eCFW until another exploitable game is publicly announced (keep in mind that took almost a full year last time).

Edit: Apparently it is also FIFA 12, also $29.99 USD. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/14112558/Stuff13/VitaExploitChart.png
