Vita PSN Game And Service Thread

What do we do with stuff that doesn't deserve a new thread and doesn't have an OT? We okay to post that in here?

Looks like NFS Vita will have some exclusive stuff http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2012/10/19/need-for-speed-most-wanted-4-things-you-need-to-know/

PS Vita represents a huge step for us. We managed to crowbar the entire PlayStation 3 game onto the system. Almost all the races and events, the online play (albeit with four players rather than eight) and the massive open world is right there in the Vita version, plus a few more that are exclusive to the system.

That’s pretty cool on its own, but everything you do on your PS Vita copy earns you Speed Points, inching you closer to that top spot on your friends Most Wanted list.

Hey all!

Longtime Gafer, but mainly in the lurker mode.

I would be considered a "Vitadad" according to what I have seen in the past thread....just got a Vita last week (Madden bundle) and 32GB card. My 8 yr old will love Virtua Tennis 4 as he fondly played the demo at local stores.

LOVING it so far......kinda a mystery why I skipped out at launch, but soooooo happy with it so far. That screen, THAT screen!! Been playing every demo I can download and started up GameFly for a bit too (been a longtime Ridge Racer fan, and all the reviews of light on content/lack of real single player, I just don't trust this one w/o playing it :-P) Downloaded Castlevania: SotN from my past downloads list and man, everyone is right, 2-D PSOne games look beautiful on there.

Even better, I just got my codes from Sony Rewards this morning for the promo signup of the Playstation Visa card they have been running.....so, I now have a year of PS+ and a $50 PSN credit to use.

My question relevant to this thread is, with the $50 credit and PS+, where to start? Kinda want to wait till November to see what they offer on + before buying any games just in case. Hard to pass up Mutant Blobs Attack for that cheap this month, though :-)

I am fine with sticking with retail carts for most releases, beside whatever + offers up. So, thinking I will be focusing on PSN digital exclusives/DLC/PSP/PSOne in general. Assuming something like Ys: I & II Chronicles for the PSP will look amazing also on the Vita's screen, right? How about older PSone polygonal games like Jumping Flash!?...would not mind revisting some of my gaming past like Arc the Lad II and, come to think of it, I have never played Alundra.

..add with that spend $100, get $20 promo this month, has me thinking of getting even more things......

How long did it take you to get this from the time you applied? Am I right in thinking it's too late to try to get this in time for the spend $100 promo?

Also, is Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles playable on Vita? Do we still have a list of PSP games compatible with Vita somewhere?

.....signed up for the card Last Wednesday, got it on Tuesday of this week in the mail, made a purchase that same day, collected my rewards today.....slick and easy!

Congrats! the screen is impressive but don't you think the UI looks a bit jagged? What games are you looking forward too?also with that PSN card you should get:-

-Ys Seven
-God of war:chains of olympus
-God of war:ghost of sparta
-Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles

Is there a site with a list of the PSN PSP games and how large the corresponding download sizes are? I'm stuck with my 4gb memory card for a while and a lot of the games listed on PSN don't include their download size (when viewed through the PSN browser on the PSV). It's quite annoying that some game descriptions include this information and some don't.

Sure, those bubbles could use some aliasing :-P

Definitely looking forward to LBP Vita, Virtua Tennis 4, Hot Shots and Gravity Rush for ones that are already out and still wading through what is coming out in the near future.....so much to choose from! .....and waiting for that Ys Celceta US announcement...well, hopefully!

Thanks for the PSP game suggestions. Defintely should pace this all out as I will go on overload soon.

PSP and PS1 games look great on Vita! If you want some recommendations, what types of games do you like?

The only potential problem with PS1 games is that R2/L2 are mapped to the rear touch pad. So you have to keep your fingers from accidentally grazing the touch pad. Using a grip would help. There's also a few games like Twisted Metal that use R2/L2 often, which can get frustrating because the touch pad isn't as responsive as normal buttons.

On the other hand, there's a few PSP games that greatly benefit from having a second analog stick, like MGS Peace Walker and Monster Hunter Freedom Unite.

Ah, I didn't think about the second stick being able to be mapped for some games.....cool! Bummer about the R2/L2 situation, though.

I love some good 2D action games in general and would not mind revisiting some of my gaming past with platformers/action games like that.

How often do PSOne/PSP sales happen or don't hold my breath?

Been checking out this site (not sure how acurate it is) for what's availible while at work and w/o the Vita:

EU or NA?

If you're looking for sales in NA, don't hold your breath.

Why are people still on board for LEGO LOTR Vita? Since the console versions were delayed, isn't it likely that the Vita version is a port of the 3DS version?

The fact that the last LEGO game shared a common base with the 3DS version was disappointing because it lacked the open world hub of the PS3/360 versions. That one game aside, these LEGO games are usually pretty much identical on handhelds and home consoles and I'm assuming it's the case with LOTR as well.

Less traffic and no long races? It's like they tailor made this version of the game specifically for me.

But I got my high score (6.5m) using nothing but dynamite and lighting :O
I play using nothing because it makes the game feel more like it's skill-based, but I don't know if I really understand the scoring.

My personal best is a little over 6 million, but I've had other playthroughs that felt similar aside from the fact that I had finished with far less than a million points. What I get out of that is the game seems to dole out the big scores for clearing the gems that have crystals in them, particularly when done in combinations during frenzies.

I got my biggest score of 30M+ without any crystals or totems, the only problem being that I have no idea how I did that. :P

NA...........so, I will have low expectations then :-)

PSOne sales happen occasionally, but it's more up to the publisher here. SCEE did some magic sales, particularly on Vita titles for the Summer Sales. All we got was a discount on HSG and VT4.

Most of the sales lately have been publisher driven. Atlus and the makers of the Harvest Moon games did sales which discounted PSP titles, but not much outside that. Occasionally Capcom throws us a bone and something like MHFU or SFA3, Darkstalkers, Powerstone, etc. will be on sale.

I'd highly recommend Ys Seven. It's 3D but from a fixed perspective. I enjoyed Ys Oath in Felghana and Ys I&II Chronicles too, but Seven is my favourite. There's also Metal Slug Anthology and Mega Man Maverick Hunter X if you want something strictly 2D.

On PS1, definitely check out Alundra. It's similar to 2D Zelda games, but with deeper combat. As for 2.5D platformers, Klonoa and Tomba are amazing.

Yeah I know, it feels pretty random. Sometimes the game decides to give you awesome gem combinations, other times there's literally nothing you can do. I've had a 5m+ score using nothing at all a bit earlier today, and the game afterwards I didn't even break 500k.

It's pushing it close but just got approval for the card. I'll probably just end up buying stuff on PSN with the card itself rather than rely on the $50 credit coming in time though.

I hope sound shapes doesn't forget to add offline storage for community levels otherwise the dlc will be really short lived if it all for me.

What's the issue with the long races on NFSMW vita? Hopefully it's just because it is a portable and so people are more likely to disconnect and they didn't want that during a long race...as if it is the same map etc...why :S

Also, is Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles playable on Vita? Do we still have a list of PSP games compatible with Vita somewhere?

Dracula X Chronicles is, and it's highly recommended. I'm playing through SOTN again for the Xth time... I've lost count haha. I can't remember if there's a PSP compatible list though, I've only seen the PS1 lists.

Also.. that blog post about NFS: MW ... He said "Almost all the races and events" ... so it won't be completely identical to the PS3 in content or multiplayer ... it still looks great though, it's amazing that it'll have the same open world so I'm definitely on board.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I think I will definitely start with an Ys PSP game and Alundra....more to follow!

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but which PSP games do you think take the biggest advantage of being played on Vita? As in controls and loading times and all that.

Current PSP games I own that are on PSN are Valkyria Chronicles 2, Dissida 012 Duodecim, Ys Seven and 3rd Birthday. Haven't played any of them yet

Does anyone know if Legend of Dragoon works on Vita? It's the only physical PS1 game I own apart from the Crash games and Rayman. I used to spend entire weekends playing it nonstop. I haven't played it in years so I don't remember much apart from the crazy CG ending.

From what i've heard it's medal of honor heroes 2.

i remember someone saying it did. I was meaning to pick it up because it was on my original Playstation pick up list but alot of RPG's had come out around that time and I just never got to it.

I've got it installed on mine, so I'm going with yes, it is. :) Haven't actually played it on there, but I transferred via PS3 when the PS1 update first hit the Vita, should be fine.

Thanks. I'll be picking it up later today I guess and use up the last bit of PSN money.

One more thing, why the hell are the Crash and Spyro games not working on Vita? It's kind of ridiculous that the best PS1 platformers don't work. SCEA must just hate NA Vita owners.

So, what's the verdict on Book of Memories?
If it's anything like the demo it's boring and very repetitive. Some people might find it fun but after the end of that demo I was already getting sick of the monotony. At the very least it looks nice visually.

Trying the demo for yourself would be the best way to find out if you'll like it.

That's insane. You had to do that in under 60 seconds too!
You can extend the game by ten seconds when you clear a token with a spinning clock power-up on it. In theory if you can pick up one of the time extend power-ups once every ten seconds, you can play forever.

However, the one big time extend gotcha is that you don't get the add to the clock until your combo ends and the tokens fall down, so if you're greedy and extending the combo by clearing every set of tokens that is being pointed out by the magnifying glass power-up, you might game over before the time add can happen.

Stupid dark mode is technically also a game extension that occurs after your game should have ended, but it's a terrible way to extend your game. I'm not sure how it gets activated, but I try to avoid doing so.

IIRC my longest single game time is exactly 4 minutes.

So, what's the verdict on Book of Memories?

Try the demo. I really dig it, has great atmosphere and is a pretty unique dungeon crawl. Also is actually challenging. The demo is not hard at all but after the first zone in the retail you need to be pretty careful. I would recommend it unless something in the demo really makes you hate it.

Hey guys. Just a small update,

Am adding more and more games to the review thread, should get it finished tonight. Some detailed reviews for some of the lesser known titles would be really appreciated!

So I've been itching to download a new Vita game, and with Sega dropping the ball on Jet Set, I've finally decided to check out Mutant Blobs. Despite all of the great word of mouth, and reviews I was still hesitant I would enjoy it. I've only finished the first level, but damn...if the rest of the game is this well done then I'm one happy camper!

Also itching for a new retail game...maybe this weekend...

I was going to say the same thing. For me the thing that really made me not like the demo was not only the repetitive action, but the looping sound effects--they drove me nuts! When you attack an enemy it's like they make the same, pained sound over and over. Why do developers do that?! Just a few more grunts or screams could have made for a more non-repetitive sound effects mix. smh

Anyway, I've removed SHBOM from my "maybe" list. On to better things...

Congrats! the screen is impressive but don't you think the UI looks a bit jagged?

Why did the jagginess in the UI need to even be mentioned if he didn't say anything about it?

NFS

If we didn't know already

Yeah, but what I feel was an equally important point that you didn't mention was that, to compensate, there will be Vita-specific events.

I personally think the longest races aren't there because it's a portable, and it actually makes sense to me. I hadn't considered it before, but it makes sense.

Anybody picking up the ACIII: Liberation Vita bundle?

I initially told myself I'd wait, but I pulled the trigger when Best Buy had Uncharted bundled with it. The white Vita is tempting, but the black matches my other stuff (except my phone, which is white).

I just asked and he replied saying it did look jagged. For me the first impression of the screen wasn't that great mainly because of the UI.

Ah. Well, when I noticed the jagginess in the UI (well, to be specific the 3D elements in the UI, which don't encompass everything), I didn't think the screen was bad. I just thought there was aliasing, which had nothing to do with the screen. So that's why I was confused by your comment, but okay. Carry on.

...? top of this page :P

Well, yeah, he mentioned a few extras for the Vita version, but he didn't say WHAT the "extras" were, lol. In the reply from him on the blog post he mentioned that the "extras" were events.
