Is there a way to bypass the Start Gate when loading apps?

You know, select an app, then have to press a button again for it to load. That just wasted motion.

If I didn't want it to load, I wouldn't have selected it, duh. :|

Is there a way to delete shit off the home screens as well? Say for instance trophies app, that's as useful to me as Facebook app on my smartphone.

I really hope Sony updates the OS and puts a sensible grid in place. Space wasting bubble interface grates against my UI ocd. GRID, OR GTFO! >:|

so.... I don't feel like making a thread for this question and this little vita community seems knowledgeable so I will ask here.

Has anyone here played Dragon Money?

I was reading this article covering the fact that the new ps1 imports aren't monkeypaw but Gung Ho Online Entertainment America and that game caught my eye, but I can't seem to find any info about it in general. Killer Bass sounded amusing as well but I could really use a decent new rpg board game as dokapon kingdom is the only one I have that really fits that bill.

Thanks for cross posting, wouldn't have noticed just form that thread itself. YAY, KAT! *ahem*

Now if only I had a second mem-card... good to see they've started to get the ball rolling, though. Maybe we can expect the same in the US, eventually...

It's called a Live Area, and no, there's no way to bypass it. It's not there for you to confirm whether you want it to load. It's there as an easy way to multitask and also to catch up on what friends are doing on that game/checking on updates/viewing the manual/other game-specific info.

No. Trophies are a big part of PSN and many people use it. It would be stupid of them to allow you to delete it, but I think they should let you hide icons that you don't use.

I really hope Sony updates the OS and puts a sensible grid in place. Space wasting bubble interface grates against my UI ocd. GRID, OR GTFO! >:|

Would a potential two extra icons gained from having a grid be that beneficial? I don't see how this could possibly be an issue.

Yep. That's good enough for me.

Photos, Music, Near, Trophies, Welcome Park, Remote Play, Maps, Email, Party, Videos - these are all things I don't need in my way. I've moved them out of the way, but Sony ought to take some OS cues from Android/Ios to refine the UI on the Vita.

Two?

I'm talking squares for everything. So that's three rows of four, actually eliminating all the empty space you could get three rows of five.

Make it customizable so fans of balls can still keep this UI, but for me I think it looks like garbage and there's a ton of wasted screen real estate.

I need to use the damned thing more to see how this start gate thing will "help" with multitasking. All I know is when I press a button I want something to happen, not another prompt for further input.

How many chapters are there in Gravity Rush? I pretty much fooking love this game. Just so beautiful and I have fun playing it. Got gold in every challenge so far. Platinumzz here I come.

hadnt played NFSMW for a while - damn! I'd forgotten how addicting smashing random gates could be! Let alone, the balls to the wall awesome, feel from skidding around the mean streets of the city.

love this shit - portable gaming realized

First, I'm not a huge fan of the bubbles either, but I think they look somewhat okay. IMO they need to get rid of the 3D elements of them (with the reflection and shimmer). If they were 2D circles but still moved around like they do now, I personally would like that.

Now, yes, that would be two extra icons. If there were three rows of four, that would be 12 icons. Right now there are two rows of three and one row of four. That's 10 icons.

About the live area screens, it helps with multitasking because you have all your open apps/games in cards that you can swipe between. I can be in a game, press the PS button to get back to the cards, go to the music live area and start playing my music. It's like WebOS except you can interact with the cards in some cases without actually having to go into the app (like the music app). I love them myself.

OH MY GOD, YES. I MUST UPDATE FOR THIS!!!! *CAPS!*

But I have to make Japanese account and be online 24/7 for this. WOE. WHY CAN'T THEY PUT PSP1/2 BACK UP ON THE STORE!?

Is there a way to turn off the "Do you want to include the purchase of this content as an activity?" prompt as well? To just set it to NO by default?

Dynasty Warriors Next demo? Dian Wei better be playable! :P

Why are you so adamant about not altering the interface to eliminate wasted space?

Spoilered just in-case someone doesn't want to know the amount of chapters. There's
21.

Yeah I definitely enjoyed it and totally recommend it to anyone. The "3D" comic book style of storytelling was an awesome way to do things.

I think
21?
I'm on 18 right now.

As for live area. I mean a few apps could do without it. Do I really need a live area for settings? Or photos, videos, and content manager? Remote play? What do those live areas list exactly? I can see the problem some people have with them on a few specific apps especially.

Edit: why spoiler the number of chapters? Lol k I will just for the hell of it.

I took a shot at AC3: Liberation and found the 40m or so I put in pretty enjoyable. What bugged me was how shitty the sound was. It's like a Gameloft game. Really hollow and I dunno... cheap?

Is there something wrong with my speakers, a setting or something?

The photos needs it somewhat, as it lets you choose between gallery and camera (and something else).

This may be a totally stupid question, but can the Group Messaging app basically act like a chatroom? Like, can it handle "rooms" with large groups of people, even if those people aren't friends with the person that started the conversation.

I've not had the chance to use it beyond basic 1-on-1 back and forth messaging like you'd do on the PS3.

Not sure on a limit but I think it's up to 12 or 15 or some number. I've only tried it once. You can also search for someone to add as a recipient to the message as well. Kind of like how you add friends to your list. As long as you put their name in accurately, it should work.

If they are on your friends list, you will get a pull down window with selection squares next to each user.

Why is it so difficult to find Disgaea 3 for a reasonable price :(

EBGames Australia have it for $23 but no stores nearby have any and they won't get the other stores to ship them. This sucks!!!! :(

AFAIK, no. But maybe it's in the settings options for PSN.

Just checked.

No go. :(

Unless it's somewhere I did not look, which is entirely possible; but I poked around more of the relevant areas of the Settings.

I'd also love to be able to add content folders to the Live Area.

Games, Demos, Social Media Crap, PSN Crap. That would be super handy.

Yes. I want my Vita to behave more like my smartphone.

Additionally I'd love for Sony to ape Shapewriter or Swype for more efficient "typing" on the touchscreen.

You are right BUT I once remarked about how they could keep the live area (well they need to keep it anyway for multitasking, but as a reason to not bypass the live area at start) for things like settings by adding functionality to the live area. Settings live area could have toggles for settings like WiFi, Bluetooth, 3G, etc. That way you could just toggle those on and off quickly without having to enter the app. As it is right now, it's kind of useless, but they could give it a reason to not have to bypass the live area.

Because it's so loaded with awesome that it isn't coming down in price (at full price it's still less than 10 cents per hour it would take to 100% the game :P). I settled for $30 from the nis store so I could get the microfiber towel. I know they ship internationally but I am not sure how their prices are.

nope. the game is stellar and immersive. the sound however sucks. its like everything is speaking through an answering machine. I guess its the price we pay for full fledged games consisting of less then 4 gigs. something has to be compressed.

above: I actually like the bubble interface.

The bubbles and background move as a subtle preventative measure, helpng to avoid screen retention or burn in. I understand they might not appear as stylish, efficient or everybody's cup of tea - though I vastly enjoy the look more than dated iOS or sloppy Android (I hare that every icon is different/not uniform with Android).

its a gaming device, maximized for fun - not utility, like that of the Borg. I mean smartphone...

A lot of critics, but I guess Im a lone wolf championing the bubbles - I think they look cool.

:( I thought they didn't ship internationally so didn't buy it from them.

Whatever happened to the NISA PSN Sale? Whenever I check the games they are always the same prize :'(

The PSN sale changed last tuesday and should change again tomorrow evening, as for international shipping though unless there is hidden custom fees (not sure) the shipping from the nis store doesn't seem horrible

using
as my shipping info as I assumed you were from Australlia given the EBGames Australia mention

Thanks zulux21. If I cannot source it cheaper locally I will bite the bullet and grab it from NISA :).

I really wish NISA posted on their website which games were on sale this week for the PSN Sale. It is annoying to have to search all their games each time :'(

Wow, Dynasty Warriors Next is very pretty.

Pretty nuts.

Unfortunately I'm allergic to touch screen shenanigans in game play, so I'll take a pass. :\

Were it not for that, I'd totally buy it. I hope future musou games on vita avoid touch gimmicks.

before you order I would recommend popping in on their forums and asking about importing and what not or finding articles about it to see if there are any hidden fees and how long people usually wait.

also I should note that the price quoted on disgaea 3 is their holiday sale price which according to my email ends in oh.... 2 hours and 20 min ><;
as 12pm Dec 3rd is then. Once that time hits it will go back up to it's normal $40 price tag.

as for what was on sale for the psn, assuming you are using a NA account the playstation blog covers what is on sale this past week was neptunia 2 dlc

beyond that you could always sign up for the nisa fan club and get the prinny bomb as they send out comics for any of their going ons

I'm pretty sure you can disable the touch stuff but you have to do the movement with the sticks and it's way more ridiculous than just doing the touch stuff.

Touché salesman!

I didn't like touching games on my Nintendo DS. I don't play games on my smartphone because it doesn't have BUTTONS. Sadly sony is a little late to this touchscreen wankfest. :P

I just want pretty graphic games that work with buttons and no stupid touchy feely stuff.

On the OS and UI side I don't so much mind touchy feely stuff.

There are no grays in this area for me, only black and white. :X

Okay, I wanted to be in bed two hours ago. I've officially burst my Vita cherry with DW. Time for bed.

Will try additional demos in the future. Shinobido 2, Unit 13, Dungeon Hunters(?).

I recall you saying somewhere that you don't like smartphone games. I was kidding. I understand your point, but I don't adamantly hate touch stuff in my games. I don't mind it usually. Like in LBP, I enjoy what it adds. With Uncharted, I enjoy some of the stuff it adds, and hate others (the fighting mechanic). Some people will hate touch screen stuff just because it's touch screen stuff, but I only dislike it if I feels it adds nothing.

My take on touch:
I hate most touch input on the DS aside from advancing text in the Ace Attorney games by tapping the screen... i feel if you have a game with a lot of text you should be able to advance the text by tapping the screen in general... I have tried many times to advance the text in persona 4 to no avail lol. That being said a lot of my hate for the DS touch is the need to use a stylus for most things that aren't advancing the text. I don't find it comfortable and don't find it worth the effort. And there are very few games that use touch only that I find enjoyable as most of them could easily get by with out.

so far on the vita though I haven't minded as much. I hated typing in things with the stylus on the DS/3ds but on the vita with my fingers it's pretty easy and smooth. With in game features like the voice thing in persona 4 it doesn't bother me as when I can use my fingers it's just like pressing a new button that happens to be on the screen which was one of my hopes when I saw the vita that the touch controls would flow better for me. In general though if I don't feel touch controls add anything though I will get annoyed by them.. but i am hoping I might be able to get into some rhythm games on the vita.

I also have issues with my hands and the screens.

It doesn't matter what device I'm using, but I have contact issues with touch screens and missing inputs. There's also the problem of MY FINGER/HAND IS NOW IN THE WAY.

There's really no good reason to have mandatory touch controls when you have physical input mechanisms. If you, the developer, want to use it as an additional input method for an existing interface command, I'm okay with that.

Having no alternative is a sure fire way of losing my sale. :\

Is there any way to adjust the screen brightness without going into the settings? A quick adjust would be handy.
