Vita PSN Game And Service Thread

Seriously Sony commission Bluepoint to make a Vita exclusive using the PSASBR engine. That engine is awesome and could make an awesome platformer or side scrolling beat em up.

I just bought both the Sega Genesis Collection and Activision Hits Remixed. A total of 77 retro games for $25.98 isn't bad at all.

What's the bet the homebrew emulator got it better.

Sad thing is you're probably right :( I think there was something wrong with the emulation in the PSP version. I was talking to a friend about it, he said it's the collection itself and the guys who did the port. I think it only affected a few games but... Sonic 2 is one of them :(

The funny thing is, the Sonic Classic Collection (or whatever the hell it's called) for Nintendo DS actually hired the programmer of the best at the time Genesis emulator for DS to make it. It's surprising more companies don't do that.

I really miss OUR old thread :0(

Sidenote - SFxT Vita comes out soon, was the game actually any good (when it released earlier in the year on console)?

Or.....should I show interest in P4G? I've never played a Persona or SMT game. I have no interest in the other/older entries. For whatever reason, I've never been into the niche anime/JRPG games from XSeed, Atlus, Falcom, Marvelous, etc...they seem so prevalent on Sony systems and a lot of the Sony crowd digs them.

So, I'm willing to try a Persona game (not 3, totobeni would Ring chick silent take me out), can anybody describe if its actually a fun game?

***I keep hearing its a social/friend sim. You must all know, I hated the social aspects of GTAIV. I didn't like having to hang out, answer the phone, etc. I just want to play a game and enjoys its gameplay/story***

Happy thought: I haven't had a cigarette in a long while (quitting smoking) so I seem craggy. I also miss out old thread.

Just watched the trailer for God Eater 2. God damn. After playing GEB I'm more hyped for than MH3U. What're the chances it gets localized? Please tell me they've already announced something. :(

Also, November is fucking crazy games-wise. Persona 4: Golden, Paper Mario, and the Wii U launch. I'm never going to have enough time to play these games.

Nah, you get a time bonus for lining up 4 gems, I think. I guess I was on some kind of streak. XD

Also, PSABR on Vita is awesome and proves that there is plenty of power in there to execute good-looking, 60FPS games.

true, I think I play better on the Vita than on my TV lols

I'm sad to see the general Vita thread go. I don't understand how someone could have an issue with a general Vita thread (or a general 3DS/Wii U thread)...

The great thing about it was that it dealt with everything, including a lot of (smaller) topics that don't need their own thread. It was a central place where people met and discussed about a lot of different (small and big) topics that would probably never have fitted elsewhere in the forum.

I don't understand this decision at all... I'm puzzled. This will result in a lot of different , small threads that will vanish fast and are absolutely not easy to follow.

^^^This is me right now. So I guess this thread is now "home."

It's up to D3. They haven't announced anything yet. SCEA will probably push for it but that doesn't necessarily mean anything.

This thread is so much less active now (compared to the OT). I doubt the lack of posts are being made up in other Vita threads (lol). I think the mod's anti-mega thread rule is killing a lot of potential conversation/speculation/discussion. The Wii U thread was really active too and I haven't seen as much activity in the smaller Wii U threads.

Their idea was trying not to fragment discussion. They fucked it up royal.

Yep. Games and Service, Reviews, Hardware tips and so on. Who honestly expects all of those threads to be active enough to stay alive? Some of them will die off and discussion of those topics will die with them.

Another forum I frequent decided to kill off system based megathreads a few years ago as well, though they went even further and closed anything resembling them (so this thread wouldn't exist either). The goal was to separate discussion into multiple threads to make it easier for new users to jump in but the complete opposite happened. DS, PSP and, on a slightly lesser note, PS3 and Wii discussion were basically killed because most of the forum were PC/360 centric. Threads for those systems only occurred when a really popular game got released (God of War, MGS4, NSMB, Mario Kart, etc.) or when someone made a thread looking for recommendations. Anyone looking to talk about niche games or the systems themselves had to look for a different forum.

Not saying the same thing will happen here, as the other forum dealt with it way harsher, but still, I doubt Vita discussion will be anywhere near as prevalent as it was before (unless we're including "teh doomed" threads).

If the mods want to kill megathreads then they need to get an admin to add system specific boards in order to contain all the discussions in a single area without them getting lost in the shuffle. The megathreads have always worked so well due to gaf's unorganized single board nature, but splitting these unique system-specific threads up while keeping gaf in it's single board state is going to do nothing but kill these topics.

I mean that's not to say I can't see their good intentions with doing this, it just doesn't work with the way neogaf is set up.

The idea of system specific boards is quite good. A lot of work no doubt but I think that's work well!

Also completely unrelated...I'd love to play the Vectrex game set on my Vita. That shit would be awesome.

Yes! I have a Vectrex and a good emulator could look really great on the Vita's OLED display. They made all Vectrex games public domain and people are selling multi game cartridges, so rights wise it shouldn't be a problem.

VitaBro reporting in

Went on a small shopping spree

I'll soon need more screens @_@!

So with PS+ arriving and Black Friday Discount Triple Check!, Jesus =/

Bought Tales (Just for you Carl), Sunflowers, Zen Pinball (got PS+ PS3 DLC free, bought PvZ table)
Treasure Montezuma + Treasure Park were free

Can you play Guerilla War in portrait mode on the Vita?

Wondering whether I should import RO.

On the plus side, I'll get it earlier than here in the EU and I'd be able to play with more GAFers. On the downside, being a US release means that timezones become a problem.

I'm definitely importing P4 because of the ridiculous EU situation, but RO? I have no idea what to do, and yet it's out so soon!

Ragnarok Odyssey is PSN-only in Europe if that makes your decision easier.

Maybe something for PS Mobile?

Vectrex's official library is PD as long as it's for non-profit works. PlayStation Mobile currently doesn't support free games without in app purchases.

PS Mobile is a bit low on CPU power though, I'm not sure if it could handle the emulation fast enough.

True, but like I said people are selling multi game cartridges for the Vectrex and that doesn't seem to be a problem.

the rest of the half dozen vita games have not impressed me visually :/
What would that have to do with performance concerns though? Every platform has majority of titles in the "less impressive" bracket - especially once you factor in individual preferences.

Ah, this is where everyone went ... ;)

I agree that splitting up is a good idea IF there's some kind of umbrella holding everything together, like a subforum.

PSN only? D:

Are there any
free
DLC coming for Ragnarok? The title pique my interest when I saw many mentions in the other Vita threads, and I think it'll factor into my decision.

That sucks. Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection on 360/PS3 is one of my favorite compilations ever.

Speaking of classic SEGA, they really should have release a Phantasy Star 1-4 collection on VITA.

What are some good PSP games for $20 or less?
With Guilty Gear being delayed 'til November and my ire over the UMvC3 debacle, I'm considering filling some of my $100 total for the October PS Store promo on a PSP game or two.

I already have:
MHFU
SFA3
Darkstalkers
UGnG
Mega Man Maverick Hunter
Powerstone
Capcom Classics (both)
Castlevania Dracula X
PJM Deluxe
FFIV: Complete
Dissidia

There's always the Prinny games. Both are pretty awesome platformers.

Lunar
Sonic Genesis Collection
Samurai Showdown Collection
Def Jam FNY
The Warriors

Sucks the old thread is gone was my fav thread on gaf. Guess this is it now. On another note cant wait for liberation.

It depends how the online works. If ifs region based according to your psn account you won't be able to play with us peeps. However I havnt found anyone who knows how imported games work online.

Psn only is fine by me as I would want it digitally anyway. Pretty long term game that I would t want to have to keep switching cards for.

OK, here's the thing. The whole "Social Interactions" in P4 are basically to make your personae stronger while fusing. Each character has a "Social Link" that is linked to an arcana, which is leveled up each time you interact with them, usually after school or at night. Each one of these levels gives the persona that you are trying to fuse of that same arcana a XP bonus. The higher the link the higher the bonus. So, with a level 10 SL, you can basically boost a persona's level up by about 3 or 4 times. Also, you get your teammates ultimate persona when you max out their Social Links. You could probably go throughout the whole game without doing one, but I wouldn't recommend it. You'll need to fuse some higher level demons in the later stages of the game. But they're usually pretty short. They're like 1-2 minute skits and that's it.

The gameplay aspect is one part dungeon crawler, one part turn-based battle system. You enter the dungeon and you'll see the enemies on-screen and can choose to engage or avoid them if you just want to get to the next level. The fights, well, I'd probably liken them to Pokemon (although SMT series came first and it's pretty much the same). You basically want to exploit the enemies weakness as much as possible, by using fire, ice, wind, lightning attacks, to give your character another chance to attack.

Personally, I enjoyed it immensely and is probably one of my favorite RPGs if not in my top 5 games of all time.

The only version with trophies. :o

True, this is why I want to get it. I own both Sigma 1 and 2 on PS3 but ... the lack of trophies on the original basically killed any motivation I had of beating it. I know, it's sad but I am somewhat of a trophy whore. I've been eyeing up Sigma for the Vita, but I'm afraid my rage outbursts will be completely inappropriate during my lunch breaks at work. I rage HARD at that game, like screaming at the screen raging. The fat lightning boss on top of the zeppelin? I screamed until I couldn't talk anymore, for several days.

Hey guys, question. I've never really played a Disgaea game, although I played the original Prinny game on PSP and loved it. I know they're SRPGs or whatever, and they're insanely deep, but if I hopped into 3 on the Vita, would I be lost? I'm thinking of picking it up later.

I'm interested in SFxT as well, but damn, way too many games right now. I just tried the PSABR beta on my Vita, and while fun, I miss a good 2D fighter.

Also, I had MK when GameStop sold it for $10. But damn I've never been good at the series. Traded it back in to GameStop for $14.

If you're into platformer in the vein of Jak & Daxter, I would highly recommend Daxter, by Ready at Dawn. Great game and still hold up well, especially now that L and R camera buttons can now be assigned to right stick on Vita.

here's what you need to know, if you enjoy story in your games, then you'll love persona 3&4. Dont compare the social sim in persona to gta4 which is so trivial and not te point of the game at all. Social links in persona games are well integrated to the gameplay system, and more importantly, they're really well written and just fun to watch/read.

Here's how the social sim go, you're a transfer student who just arrived to the small town in the game, and as a student, you have your daily schedule like go to school, pick extracuricular activities like sports or art club, join student council etc, so after end of class everyday, you got to decide what you want to spent your time with, like maybe work parttime, or go to library etc. In each of these activities you'll meet npc that you will befriend and interact with, through dialog choices, the more time you spent with him/her will increase your social links level that is beneficial in combining persona, basically making you more effective during the combat portion of the game.

Its unlikely that you'll finish all character stories in first playthrough, unless you find a guide for it. Better pick a couple character that you find most interesting and focus on finishing them to get closure for their stories.

People keep on saying it sucks, but why? IF the game plays like SF IV, I'm in, but I want to know why people say SF x Tekken suck.

Gem system is messed up and imbalanced towards people willing to pay2win.

DLC situation was a disaster on consoles.

Game in general is not anywhere near as balanced or solid as say takken 6 or original sf4.

I can't recommend Patchwork Heroes enough. Not sure about prices, but the GTAs were decent as was Resistance Retribution.

Did patches clean this up at all? Have a few buddies that play this on PS3 when burnt out on tekken. This is crossplay right?
