I think most cuts are decent, but I def. agree with the less interesting games as SA, LD and RF.

Totobeni isn't impressed.

Hands up if you're surprised?

Nice first post btw :) but 30 -> 27 for Smart as def. isnt enough. Guess its to avoid early adopters feeling burned.

So anything to know before I open up my brand new Assassin's Creed bundle? What is the setup like? Do I have to charge the system for hours before being able to play? Should I sign online ASAP to download patches or anything?

It's partially charged, you can play right away.
There's one patch for AC.

One thing to piggyback on this, if you want to update an app/game, the blue arrows making a circle that would seem to mean update is to update your feed, not update the game and download a patch, that symbol is all the way to the left at the top after clicking on the app.

Plug your Vita in and let it charge until the orange light stops flashing. Then you can turn it on and do what you like with it.

How are people liking the Hori screen protector? Does the fact that it covers the entire front side of the Vita look odd?

Had a Hori protector on since launch, verry happy with it and its easy to forget it is there since its not just covering the screen.

Finally Wipeout is mine!!! About time that it dropped to MSRP price; it was nice to see that it also retained the PSN digital discount too.

Any opinions about the DLC for Wipeout?

The Wipeout dlc rules are thus. 1) Buy it. B) Why haven't you bought it yet. iii) Good huh?

You can play as soon as it has enough battery yo boot. No idea what FW it comes with so get that done ASAP. Lots of opions in the settings gor notifications and how you want to get them so have a look there.

Enjoy!

My Near is saying LBP is the most played game at the moment, what is everyine else seeing? To find out, click the crown in the bottom right of the Near screen.

That button does refresh your feed, but also checks for an update (and if it finds one, pops up the orange icon), and refreshes the live area.

As for your other question.
Yeah, you can put the Vita to sleep as it downloads.

No they don't. They may be similar in quality, but not amount of content. Each of Little Deviants minigames are about the same quality of a really polished iOS game, but there's about 20 of them. So, no, it wouldn't make sense to sell the whole package at the same price as one iOS game.

And what do you mean by Smart As ratings? It's got a 4.86/5.

Ah, ok. So used to my consoles clicking power off system and it still downloading.

You pretty much never need to power off the Vita. It lasts WELL over a week in sleep mode. It's nothing like the 3DS if you've ever used that.

I dont think I ever manually powered off my Vita since buying it. I always just use sleep mode. So amazing. Play game -> go to bed -> Sleep mode -> stand up -> continue playing within a second.

Best to not challenge Toto's views...:P

Yeah i only turn mine off every now and then. Sleep mode is great on this thing.

Ah, ok. I hit that and it scrolled down to show events by friends. That explains why the orange update box didn't show up initially though when I put in assassin's creed.

I think its one of the major reasons why I prefer playing everything on the Vita atm and cant really get back to my console games. Its just so... easy to access. That plus bed gaming is unbeatable.

Yep. No waiting for console to turn on, no sitting through logos waiting for games to load. Just press a button, swipe a screen and i'm back in my game.

<3

I want consoles to have a sleep mode.

There have been times I have been in the middle of:

A long level between save points
A game of hockey on NHL
A Snooker game
A Full size race
etc

When I have had to leave suddenly, or just lost track of time. With the Vita I can just put the machine to sleep and come back hours later. I should be able to do this on a console too.

Hey Vitabros,

Long time no post. Just wanted to add my recent Vita thoughts...

My approach to Vita has shifted dramatically over the past week. I bought 3 big Vita games on PSN in October (AC, NFS & SFxT) and feel like a fool for it. Even with the $20 rebate, it was a lot of money, and all 3 games disappointed me to some degree.

PS+ has made me reconsider my Vita buying. I'm still staying all digital, but I think my days of blindly buying games on PSN are over. Especially for full price. From now on I'm going mainly PS+, and will only buy PSN games when I can get them at big discounts (i.e. NEVER more than $30, and prefer under $20), or if I absolutely know for sure I will love them (i.e. demos, tryout via PS+ etc.). Sony seems to have finally realized that digital games should actually be cheaper than physical, and I will do my part to reinforce that concept.

Also, I now own a PS3! I didn't intend to get one, but on Black Friday my wife bought me one. The deal was too good to pass up. PS3 250GB with Infamous collection and Uncharted 1+2 for $199. Also picked up an extra DS3 bundled with GOW collection for $60, charging dock and remote control. In the end it about $300 total. Pretty good haul I think. And oh yeah, also a free month of PS+, which I am LOVING. So far I think I like the PS3 more than XB360. The UI is much nicer (almost no ads!!), and I'm in love with InFamous.

Lastly, Jet Grind Radio on Vita has totally met my expectations. I also have it on my XB360, but far prefer playing it on my Vita. Yes it is slightly buggy, but I still love the game and it looks superb on dat OLED. =)

My Vita is charging!!!!! The white is a lot better looking than I thought.

For any dungeon crawler fans, check out Labrynth Legends and let the creators know you want it on Vita - https://twitter.com/CreatStudios/status/273494613640224768
I want to get some of these but I fear they'll be ps+ soon :-/

Completely agree, good sir. It's so convenient. I doubt it will happen though :(

Sorry but no. There are 25 puzzles. Some of them are original. Some of them are highly addictive, specially at higher levels. There are 4 difficulty levels very fine tuned. A 7 year old will probably beat easiest ones. You will have a hard time beating genius difficulty, and this is not "cheap" difficulty. Presentation is never seen before for a game in this genre (check videos) . It has the most comprehensive set of stats i've seen in such a type of game. Near challenges, leaderboards by country, city, friends or near, weekly street challenges (a city challenge) and many more. Then you have leaderboards for every single puzzle. There are some AR puzzles (not my preferred). Of course there is the classical daily test and free play.
Of course, this type of game is not for everybody, and the price is slightly expensive. But in no way this is smartphone quality.

I know. Same thinking here.

I've spent a LOT of money on digital Vita games, way more than physical copies would've cost me. I'm not doing that anymore. From now on PS+ instant library is where it's at, and I will NEVER again pay $40 for a game on PSN. EVER. Not even for Persona 4 (don't have time to play it anyway).

Yeah, I didnt agree with Toto on the term "iOS quality", but the problem is still that people have a hard time buying a game that SEEMS like its just a brain age clone for 20+ bucks. They really should have launched it with 19,99$. 30$ for a game of this type that doesnt have any marketing behind it (or Nintendo printed on it) is just overpriced in the market. I mean, if we honestly take into account what kind of games we can find for below 30$, its rather hard for (an uninformed) customer to justify the purchase. I am REALLY tempted to grab it, but if I can get MLB + ZHP for the price... hm.

Or they could just releasing a fucking hockey game for vita. >:(

And the vita store hasn't been updated yet right? Annoying to find what the ps+ deals are, I'm pretty sure that was said in one of the threads but I don't remember. Sorry for all the questions.

Makes more sense to launch it high and drop the price later than it does to launch it at a low price.

There wont be new PS+ deals today, they change monthly, so the new ones arrive in about 3 weeks for Vita.

Buuuut, we'll get new NISA sale items. Hopefully some PSP games.

Some of those price drops are nice but they seem to be tailored towards attracting buys of these first-party games before they become free for Plus subscribers.

Not exactly a savings to be found here if they'd eventually be offered free of charge.

Growlanser: Wayfarer of Time is on sale for $14.99. What's the game like and most importantly, how is it? The characters look like they have plastic hair lol

I really enjoyed Growlanser: wayfarer. IMO, It is much better than the last PS2 game. The gameplay is challenging at all the right times, when the story is the most engaging.

That said, it is not for everyone, because some of the battles can be tedious and the beginning is hit or miss.

At $15 I would buy it digitally again if I could.

I don't mean new I just mean having a store update so there's a ps+ tab to choose from. On PS3 you click the PS+ tab to see what is free for that time, on vita you have to just scroll through the alphabet to see. It's annoying to try and remember all games that are free that month.

From black to white sounds extreme to me. Maybe you'll find a nice spot somewhere in the middle. There are plenty of games that won't make it to PS+.

Well, not really. If you look at it that way then no game is ever worth a buy, because there's always a chance it will be PS+ down the line.

You have to look at it in terms of these games may be 6 months or more away from being PS+. You're getting it now and you get to keep it regardless of whether you have a subscription or not. If that's not worth it to you then fair enough.

I think it's safe to assume most 3rd party retail games won't.
So far we've been given one digital 3rd party Vita game and one retail 3rd party PSP game.

I'm still going to be buying most well-received Vita titles on Day 1 of release as I have since launch. Sly will fall in this camp provided it holds up to its PS2 pedigree (which I assume it will). But for the mid-range titles like Unit 13, I'd entertain the idea of giving a try? Well, it's not like a brief price drop is going to push me over the edge if I've held out this long.

Ah, it's on that bar that scrolls... I wonder if that will always be there or if it'll be removed eventually. I never even noticed it was there, I was looking at the actual tabs lower down.

...They really didn't bother to make a category for it? Wtf? :|

No, but if you use the scroll bar of new games/sales at the top if you scroll all the way to the left it brings you to psn+ stuff but since it's that "headline" bar so to speak it doesn't feel like it's a permanent fixture to it but rather just an announcement.

Sorry, assumed it would be the same in the US as it is in the EU (where there is a category on the top advertisements and in the categories)
