Vita PSN Game & Service Thread 2

I'm assuming the Jet Set Radio discount is applied to Vita as well though, right? Because I've been so close to buying that multiple times now, but at $5 there won't be any hesitation.

I guess so, but they could have picked a decent game. Psp or ps1 game or something. Fooseball just doesn't wow me I guess I was expecting something better.

More terrible decisions! I <3 Sony so much.

I don't think so.
It doesn't specifically say Vita where I found the list, so I'm guessing much like the list that said Mortal Kombat was on sale over the holiday, that it is PS3 only unless noted as Vita.

Not necessarily since it's not cross-buy (they're treated as 2 separate games). Though, if I had to recommend one, I'd definitely go with PS3 as the vita version's controls are atrocious.

Welcome to all the new clowns.

Hey Grim! Been a while

Don't worry about it not starting Chrono Cross. I still need to get around to Breath of Fire and Legend of Legaia that Toma got me! I thought I'd start one soon, but New Little King Story is taking longer than I thought.

Did you ever play Chrono Trigger? I played Cross first and loved it. I went back and played Trigger which was also awesome, and it led to me liking Cross even more. Even if you might not like the game (which I'd be surprised at) the music alone is worth it.
It has been awhile! I've been neglecting my Vita lately because I seem to get sidetracked by others things(mainly anime and Theatrhythm). ):

Yeah, I love Chrono Trigger! I remember playing it as a kid on SNES and not being very interested(because I was a dumb kid), and then got the DS version later on in life and fell in love. <3 I'm close to someone that really loves Chrono Cross, so I've really wanted to see it for myself. Plus, yeah, the music is a given to be fantastic.

Fucking ridiculous. :(
For real. It's about an extra few days, maybe a week, of work. IF that at all. I was really hoping for it, because I would have seriously bought both a PS3 and Vita version if it wasn't cross-buy.

You might want to have a seat over there...
i-if you're going to rape me make it fast

Since it seems HSG and Motostorm VitaGAF got some multiplayer action going on are there any people interested in some casual PS Battle Royale gaming? Just some random FFA or 2vs2 whatever people feel like. I have gotten some games but it usually is 2vs2 since people are active at different times :(.

Chrono Cross is really a fantastic game. If you can get into the mindset that CC is its own thing, with it's own tone and more of a spiritual cousin to CT you will enjoy it more.

Speaking of PS1 games, anyone know how Parasite Eve looks and plays in Vita?

I don't think so.

Well that blows. Anyone want to tell me why the controls for the vita version aren't great while it's on topic?

Foosball, chronovolt, retro city rampage and jet set radio doesn't do it for you either? You must be one of those entitled people!

Fixed that for you. :)

Everyone's entitled. However, Sony just seems to think that we're entitled to shit. :P

JSR is pretty good! Tho it seems to crash sometimes and that is a first for me for Vita games :(.

No... it's not.

Well that blows. Anyone want to tell me why the controls for the vita version aren't great while it's on topic?

I don't know that it's the Vita version. I thought the controls were just terrible period. Mostly in that there seems to be an emphasis on hitting rails and stuff at certain angles to get the grind with appropriate speed to make the necessary jumps. I don't feel like it's designed to be challenging and it will be rewarding if I stick with it either. I felt like the whole thing was an exercise in futility and frustration and seem to be under the impression now that JSRF fixed these problems with the platforming/grinding/controls and is a much better game... I might not ever get to evaluate for myself, but based on some of the comments in here, that's the impression I get.

I do have a US account, but you're not convincing me to make the effort if you say the DS version is better! :P

I need to borrow a DS at some point anyway to play 999.

If you definitely can't obtain a DS/3DS, then getting it on PSN is fine in the end. I mean my first experience of the game was on PS1 and I absolutey loved it, slow load times and all. Having played the DS version since, I can see the PS port was quite bad and the DS version is miles better, but that still doesn't mean you can enjoy the PSN version.

Still you do need to play 999 at some point (you really do) so you can just play Chrono Trigger on that. And then play the superior Chrono Cross :P

PS+ (EU) hasn't had anything of worth to me for a while now. Still think the overall service is easily worth is despite the recent disappointing months

For me it was Sleeping Dogs, The Walking Dead (Tv) and anime (Clannad). All three were actually really good.

But yeah I'd go along with Space Bridge and say view Cross as a game set in an alternate reality that's related to Trigger, but not the same world. You'll understand eventually

Well that blows. Anyone want to tell me why the controls for the vita version aren't great while it's on topic?

Hmmm...well, I believe the controls in the original game were a bit floaty to begin with. It's just a little less tolerable in this day and age. I'm guessing you don't have PS +, because it's free at the moment.

EDIT: Actually, it's no longer there. (US, anyway).

It's not affable from where I'm sitting.

Laughable, maybe.
But not in a good way either.

It is bizarre how they seem to care so little for their own products. (Vita)
After the PSP did so poorly, you would think that the Vita support would be full steam ahead.
And yet its just a little puff.

It seems like the Sony customers care more about the future of the products than the company do.

Foosball, chronovolt, retro city rampage and jet set radio doesn't do it for you either? You must be one of those entitled people!

I actually liked the Foosball demo when I played it some time ago, but I don't think replacing a game like FFT with this tabletop title is a good swap. Chronovault I also enjoyed, but it's a widely panned game that (I assume) most people never wanted. RCR is a poor, overpriced game and making it free so soon after launch is a slap in the face. To make things worse, RCR replaced JSR, a great game with a large fan base despite all the hate it gets.

I actually like most of the games we've gotten, but in general these updates have been too sparse and most of the swapped in games weren't great choices.

scea replaced FFT war of the lions with fooseball...

wtf? who thought that was a good idea?

Should've gotten FFT before they took it down :P I don't have space for it ATM but I made sure to "purchase" it for free.

Also, just ordered a new Persona 4 Golden skin for my Vita - so thankful the previous one prevented any damage to my Vita's screen. I was thinking of going naked with no protection but I don't trust it - I want no scratches on my Vita's screen. Plus, I can't stand how oily and nasty the Vita gets after I've played it for awhile - I'm an oily person.

I don't get the complaints about the update period. We've now had it for two months and in that time period, they've cycled through at least 4 new games. They've been terrible, but the timeframe/schedule seems fair enough.

As for the freebies?
The best things we've gotten, as far as I'm concerned, have been the occasional good deal in the winter sale.
Gravity Rush and Uncharted and Wipeout and Mutant Blobs Attack were all good, but as someone who loves my Vita and with retail what it was, I owned all 4 already.

So what did PS+ free content on Vita net me, personally so far?
Jet Set Radio (tried, deleted), Chronovolt (tried, deleted), FFT: War of the Lions (beat the original on PSX ages ago, deleted for need of space), Retro City Rampage (which I thought was terrible from day one and never wanted, playing the demo was more than enough) and now I'll have Foosball, which I'll add to my download list (but I won't bother to install. As someone who spent years playing foosball in college, I don't think it could really do anything for me.)

I'd have rather take the chess game and let Toma kick my ass.

But that's one of the main issues. SCEA has the Vita's, PSP's, and PS1's library to pick games from but we've only gotten two games a month.

That's not very appealing for Plus subscribers who only have a Vita.

Oh I have FFT war of the lions, played the crap out of it when I resubbed to plus after getting my vita. I'm more disappointed at SCEA replacing a quality game with fooseball. I should be happy we are getting anything at all but fooseball is so MEH to me...

Well, since a lot of people seem to be announcing their activation before we shift to the new thread model I might as well take the time to announce myself as well!

Long time GAFLurker since about 2 years ago and I've been lurking the VitaGAF since bought my Amazon deal last year. So far it's been a great ride and like many others its become my go-to-gaming device at the expense of my PS3 and it's backlog (though I'm working on finishing important games now).

Overall I have the standard stuff from the PS+ IGC and a lot of he other free stuff on the store. Multiplayer games are

PSASBR
Montezume Blitz

So not a lot unfortunately due to money constraints, but I'm looking to pick up Ragnarok Odyssey as my next purchase. Also thinking about grabbing another 4GB card off Amazon since those are running for dirt cheap (5$range if I'm remembering correctly) for a JP PSN Account, good or bad idea?

Overall though, I'm glad to be a part of the community now, and hopefully the new monthly format can bring a lot of good changes to this thread! To end, add me on PSN! I have very little friends, and would like to get to that max limit so I can start rejecting people like everyone else.

With love from a VitaBro,
FUJIN27

It's the same as PS3's rate of change. I'm pretty sure we get 1-2 new games a month in PS3 land too.

Only got a vita, guess what? PS+ still gives you 2 free games a month in addition to 5 total to start with, cloud storage, auto updating, etc. It's a good deal for one system or the other, better if you have both. But still, solid if you only own one... the real problem is that the game selection is usually gutter trash.

Seriously. They're changing 40% of the games given to people for the subscription on a per month basis. That's pretty good. Considering the size of the IGC on Vita.
Also, take into account the size of the standard Vita library of games combined with the US or EU limitations on which PSP and PSOne games are compatible. Half the PSOne games I've gotten from PS+ do NOT work on my Vita. 4 Crash games, 3 Spyro games and more.

i'm not sure if this has been posted... to lazy to read through everything to see so I will just post it anyways

EU final fantasy sale

Now I'm jealous again. I just rebought FF7, FF8, and FF9... I'd buy the remake of FF for PSP too, if it went on sale. This is a better sale, IMO, than what we're getting tomorrow. Ugh.

only thing I would maybe buy from that would be ff8, as I have been meaning to replay it and portable on the vita sounds better than playing on my PSone (the one with the lcd screen :P) with my actual disks.

Nice, which ones have nice short loadings?

I don't recall much loading in the psp versions, of the ps1 ones I know my EU friend complained about ff5 loading times... the NA one has mostly fine loading times (it's not like you have many other options to play this one) but apparently the EU version takes forever to load. and FF6 has slow loading times for what it is (a port of a snes game that had no loading times), but in general they aren't that bad (1-3 seconds here and there) despite what some would like you to think.

Yeah, I wouldn't buy a lot... but I'd still buy at least something if it worked (probably the original FF PSP remake). I went into a "I sold all my PSX games for money cause I wasn't playing them and now they're compatible on Vita, I need to rebuy FF7-FF8-FF9" frenzy and dropped $10 a piece on them back in September.
I'd still buy more than I would from the "13 for 13" sale.

same for me as I don't think I am getting anything off of the 13 for 13 sale.
likely the only thing I will get from the psn tomorrow is the free game, which i will likely only play for 10 min before deleting it but still I'd personally rather have the fooseball game than MK for plus :P

Short loadings?

Well, stay away from FF6 or any (S)NES era FF that is a PSOne game. Those have the broken load times for the random encounters, IIRC.

Everything else loads as fast as it did when it was brand new on the PSOne (FF7, FF8, FF9).

The difference with PS3+ is that the updates have been consistently good-great and not the average to mediocre updates that Vita+ has been getting. If SCEA is going to replace games like JSR, FFT, MBA etc with games like RCR and Foosball then they should either offer an extra game or two or get better games.

It's entirely SCE's fault that games don't work in the first place. When a game has been confirmed to be compatible through PS3 transfer but SCE has been too lazy to put them on the Vita store then there is no excuse for the smaller selection of titles to choose from. There are only a few PSP/PSOne games that legitimately don't work on the Vita.

I didn't say SCEA wasn't to fault.
But they're not doing anything to fix it either.
No updates recently and I'm left still unable to play Spyro, Crash, or R-Type. This however goes beyond a PS+ issue.

And as far as your PS3+ vs Vita+ being good-great? I've been bitching about the PS3+ updates for about a year now. I can't even remember the last time they gave me ANYTHING I thought was worthwhile. I seriously can't. So as far as I'm concerned, the quality has been about on par.

If you really think it's not worth it and haven't invested in many additional years of service, just stop paying for it. :)

I've seriously thought about it, but I can't really get a refund on the 2+ years I have left, so I'm along for the ride, bitching all the way. If I only had a 3 month sub? I'd have let it lapse by now and would pick it back up when the updates got a severe uptick in quality.

Burnt by ridge racer bro

That's their own fault, if true.

So Namco brings the new one piece to the west but doesn't want to bring the vita version, only the ps3. since both are similar and all translation is done i don't know why they doing this.

Guess i know see the support namco is giving to the ps vita. NONE!!!! (╯°□°）╯︵ ┻━┻

I know, it's fucking ridiculous, as I stated above... in theory, it should be a small effort to bring them both over since translation is already being done for PS3. But instead of putting it out and maybe gaining a lot of sales, they're not bothering. It's a total "what the fuck?!" move, IMO.

This is really, really lame and it doesn't bode well. Sigh, we'll probably never get that Tales remake on Vita here in the West. Hopefully we can at least get those Falcom and various other JRPGs here. They've always been known to be frugal/crybabies when it comes to localizations though.

Shame there's nothing for Vita in tomorrow's sale, but I can't say I'm too displeased. Unfinished Swan for $3.75 and Psychonauts for $2.50? Hells yeah. Time to activate another PS+ 1 month trial! :P

Also I think Sony may have made up my mind on EscapeVektor for me with that 20% off...

it still costs extra money to localize two versions of the game, heck beyond the work to translate both versions they very well might have to pay out a license fee for one piece for each version they release. It likely doesn't project as worth the time and money to bring the vita game over. It's not like the vita runs the same code that the ps3 does.

as for support we will just have to wait and see how dedicated they are to bringing the tales series over in general. if they are as dedicated as they are trying to make it sound then we might actually see the tales vita game, especially given how persona 4 sold on the vita (which shows even with out a huge install base you can still sell niche titles well)

even if the vita was clearing 5 million units a month it is unlikely we would have seen a handheld tales remake in the west on it anyways :P

Are we surprised that Flopco doesn't want to ever localize ANYTHING?

ahem... not exactly on topic with the thread but on topic with your question
they localize weird things that don't project to sell at all sometimes it confuses me but it at least gives me something to look forward to buy for this summer.

You might be right, it might cost a little but they could launch it as digital-only to help, but i think it also because they translating and publishing the Project X Zone game for the 3ds and they'll release it this summer.

Guess that will cost a bit and maybe because of that they won't risk one piece for the vita. But that's me thinking and i might be exaggerating a little. xD
