Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | July 2013 | Slow Month, Fast Games

Gungnir is on sale on US PSN for $7.50, while I'm not a huge fan of SRPGs, but I'd like to hear impressions of it. If feedback about the gameplay interest me, I'll get it during this sale.

I'll wait, even if it's digital only, I'll get it for Vita but maybe not at launch.
I can't wait. I've been waiting for this back since they announced it in... 2011? The PS3 version is totally fine with me, I did play these originally on a console after all. I was just looking forward to playing them on the Vita so much. The only time I play with my Vita outside of my home is when I travel anyway.

It's dumb, I just prefer physical copies because it actually feels like I own the game(s). Like I can put them on my bookshelf (technically gameshelf) and they can be part of a much larger collection. Not to mention I only have a 16gb memory card and both games will be huge. I have nothing against digital download-only games, but... bah. I like the thought of owning the game, even though I still own all my digital games too. It's all in my head.

Welp, I'm buying LKS now.

The only thing that'd make it better would be if it came with the original art style. The new art style looks worse to me, more dull.

The US PSN update blog post is up: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2013/07/09/playstation-store-update-299/

Apparently Legends of War Patton is on the PS3 too, and it looks just as bad as the Vita version.

Edit: Or they might have just recycled the same screenshots from the Vita version. O.o
Those Lego Chima screenshots, lol.

Oh yeah? I was kind of interested in this too.

Looks like the The Walking Dead for Vita will release on August 20 if this listing from GS is true.

I echo your sentiments. A big LOL at that.

*also, does anyone know what happened to the PS Plus thread? Is there another? I usually ask for game impressions there, but the old one is locked. I'm still on the fence about the vita port LEGO Batman for $5.

The US store is updated with a bunch of discounts for PSP games from Atlus:

- Crimson Gem Saga,,Kenka Bancho, Class of Heroes 1, Hexyz Force and Knights in the Nightmare are $3.49

- Growlanser wayfarer of Time and Gungnir are $7.49

- Yggdra Union is $2.49 and Persona 2:IS is $19.99 (down from $29.99)

So its a good chance if anyone wants to round up their PSP collection

edit: Also Riviera the promised land is at $9.99

Hexyz Force any good?

Jak and Daxter Collection angry rant/impressions incoming:

So, I broke down and bought the collection because I like Jak 1 and 3 quite a bit and after watching some videos online I thought it seemed like the complaints were a bit overblown. Well...

Jak 1 actually runs fine. The first area is quite framey, which is unfortunate. However once you move past the first hub area/levels, it runs totally fine. Good even. So yeah, the first two hours or so are sketchy but after that it's totally fine. Not perfect, but fine. I beat the game and was happy with it.

Jak II is...Jak II. It's not that good of a game. There's a good game at it's core but it's buried under too much bullshit. Having to redo a 10-15 minute mission in its entirety because a framerate drop caused you to die is not fun. Speaking of, the framerate is quite bad. In small indoor areas it's fine, but out in the city or in a big open area it can get pretty bad. It's quite bad in races too. It's not the worst framerate ever, but it's bad. Oh, and the back touch controls suck. They're unresponsive and the two inputs on each side seem to overlap a bit, so sometimes I hit the back touch intending to do one thing and i do both things at once. Bad port. Stopped playing it about 3 and half hours in.

Jak 3...oh Jak 3. The framerate fluctuates between awful and absolutely-fucking-awful. It's unacceptable that it's this bad. It probably 15-20 FPS most of the time, sometimes worse. Any mission where you have to ride an animal is absolutely terrible because of this and controls like shit. One mission makes you corral a bunch of these animals and I only beat it by sheer attrition, it was completely broken due to framerate. I've also had Jak 3 freeze twice in my 3 hours of playing before I stopped. Awful.

Bottom line: If Jak 1 goes on sale separately in NA like it is in EU it's a pretty safe buy by itself. Go ahead and grab it, it's a good game and an ok port. However do not buy the collection or Jak II or Jak 3. Jak 3 is bad to the point where people should be getting refunds for it, I've never seen a retail product be released with this poor of a framerate.

Best buy, Longmont, CO

Keep popping into best buys and see different stuff every time

Thanks, andylsun! I work near this BB and hit it on the way home. Lots of clearance stuff. I picked up MGS Vita for that price, Rayman Vita for $9.99, and Ghost Recon Future Soldier for my Xbox for $9.99 too!

Is it my ruined laptop monitor or do these shots look alright to anyone else? It says PSP in the EU store :S But it is in the Vita section...I dunno. Not sure what the gameplay is like but yeah it doesn't look excellent.

That seems to be the PS3 version. I posted my own vita captures some pages back. Doesn't look that good.

Thanks, hopes dashed quite quickly. Not too painful.

MotoGP guys, again. Seriously. It's funner than driving a car. And it isn't wipeout hard.

Shit I keep forgetting it might not come out in US or Canada but I'm going to keep typing for if it does come out (don't import, free dlc is too good imo - different cc bikes (2classes), that's too good not to have).

But yeah, switch it to Pro physics and choose the control scheme with the right anologue to control gas and rear brakes, turn off the line guides (which are okay but really limit your fun and after a while don't help you improve imo) and just go nuts.

I recommend you start with the lowest cc bikes which is MotoGP 3 in the lists iirc. Then 2 then 1 for the bigger, thick-wheeled fast bikes, which are a lot harder to control due to the speed and also the size and weight when you are going slow/turning. - using manual transmission with them seems to help quite a bit.

Game is so much fun. CoD crashed? No problem, can't wait to jump on the bike and spin around on the track. Cool rewind functionality helps too and has been implemented well so you don't use it too often.

i take it you've never played the video game before? shame, it's probably the best one released last year.

I have played it (and the DLC) which is why I laughed at the statement. Don't get me wrong, I love the game and will be there Day 1 for the second season. However most of the choices are pretty damn shallow upon later reflection.

I suppose one could get all existential and argue choice never really exists. Bioshock Infinite and all that jazz...

Regardless, I enjoyed Walking Dead. Wish the vita port hadn't come over a year later, though. Hope season 2 is day 1 with other platforms.

Looking it up has the game not come out in the US yet? I actually want to buy it now after the positive impressions.

Definitely worth a buy and other than the 2 classes the dlc is just riders which there are lots of really lol. Still...they are nice to have.

Unfortunately they are still deciding on whether or not to bring it over (on all platforms) :/ :

Will it be released in USA and Canada?
We’re evaluating the chance to bring the game in USA and Canada. Further details will be announced soon.

I hope it does come out, it really seems like it should. You'll have to suffer for a while, sorry. We're still waiting on Dragon's Crown if it helps.

I made it sound hard (which it can be) but it can also be SUPER easy with auto brakes and auto turning and different options and settings.
Even has lobbies for online and (press-to-activate) voice chatting.

If you are a fan of wipeout but want something more simmy this is perfect but still super fun and I've never even played a motorbike racing game before that I remember.

I've mentioned this before but the graphics are actually rather good on the whole. Easy recommendation to racing fans from me.

Also I think every racing game should have ghosts but it's not the biggest deal it's not here, the game is packed otherwise and is one of my favourites at the moment. Picked up a number of titles quite recently too.

Was Farming Simulator free and I missed it? Because :(

I don't have a vita yet, but I was going to buy VLR for the 3DS. I logged onto the store on my PC (ps3 is off until I fix the firmware) and VLR is free on vita because I have PS+. Welp.

I also have gravity rush and uncharted 3, and equilibrium and something else. Only two games I really wanted to play was Equilibrium, Wipeout, and P4G right now so hey that's cool I guess.

Shit I haven't logged into PSN for months, I missed free DXHR, DS, Disgaea 3, spec ops, blazblu, soul caliber

D:

There's really no excuse for that since you can do it from your browser....And even when I do play my ps3 for weeks I just log in and download whatever and then turn it off. :P

Downloading Tokyo Jungle! Will try to give impressions when I can for those interested.

Yup yup. Loved the original game and love SRPG, what could go wrong. Would love to hear some impressions on total recoil before pulling the trigger.

EDIT: It's a realtime roguelike, so a lot more like tokyo jungle but on a grid and very simplified.

I just recently beat Hexyz Force and I can recommend it for someone looking for a JRPG itch. Doesn't really do anything new, but it isn't as complex in systems like other Sting games. Not too long of a game either as it took me around 20 hours and that's doing a fair number of side missions.

The story was decent and pretty well withing the bounds of what you expect out of a jrpg although the characters didn't ever lean so hard into real big stereotypes.

Combat is fast and even faster as you can fast forward all combat and even all story sequences. Game is more of a a dungeon crawler, so don't expect much in terms of exploration of towns or conversing that much with NPCs. And the game is on the easy side, pretty forgiving as well. Never once got close to a game over.

I played/completed the Male side and that was definitely more interesting than the female side which I played only the first couple hours. Male side was a bit more serious than the other so it's story was easier to get interested in. Female's was just too lighthearted and carefree in tone to care much.

There is a new game+, but only certain things carry over until the end when you get everything back. It kinda works like Resident Evil 2's system because your new game+ goes towards the other side you don't play. But during your 3rd playthrough everything is retained then, from what I read (I never actually got to the 3rd PT).

For 3.50 I would say it's worth your money.

Everyone with a vita/psp grab Knights in the Nightmare, one of the most unique and weird srpgs out there. It takes a while to get used to the quirks and mechanics but it's really a blast once you do so. Although missing characters because of hidden conditions you didn't fulfill several missions before is annoying.

And finally Gungnir is on sale! Anyone know what Sting/Super Sting is working on currently?

Also: Holy shit at those Chima shots.

yep, I thought it was going to be a straight turn based system, but its not really. you have the whole map to explore, presents to find(though no cosmetic changes from what I can tell so far), same types of challanges to complete, and the combat is semi action based. The main differences are that its 2D, and has grid based movement. Im pretty happy with it actually, PSM is getting some great stuff imo.

Looks like a nice deal to me.

personally I think it looks like a rather crappy deal.

still just a 4gb memory card.
and still $250.

it should be launching at $200 with an 8gb memory card to help revive the vita as we come up to the September releases.
