Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | July 2013 | Slow Month, Fast Games

So it's a game that looks like survival horror combined with dungeon-crawling while removing some of the best elements of both genres? I'm going to pass, sorry.
So you were complaining about it without having it or you are going to pass on a game you already have? :P

It plays and looks like a dungeon crawler. I certainly respect their philosophy, but that's how the end product came out.

This is all the camera fault, think about it, if it was the same exact game but with a normal third person camera how would you have called it, dungeon crawler or survival horror? The camera alone can change the genre? This is one of the many reasons why i say it's not a dungeon crawler(and not a survival horror)

Thanks for championing the game. It's quite underrated. While it has its flaws (my only complaint is that the connecting hallways feel too safe) it's got a lot of depth to its mechanics and it's a Vita exclusive. Plus the devs supported it long after release with a major patch (was that separate from the DLC? I bought the game and the DLC at the same time).

Have you done multiplayer? I haven't tried it myself but I imagine it would be fun.

Never tried multiplayer, i'm a single player lover and i always try to not use the wifi while i play :)
Patch and dlc came together because the patch added the dlc support, but the patch is useful to the people who don't have the dlc too.

I played through the demo and noticed that all of the weapons had the same fixed "stats". Your post actually made my decision to not buy the full game easier, to be honest.

What does everyone's near map look like around their house? Curious to see how concentrated the Vita population is around the world.

This is mine. I live about an hour outside of the Melbourne main city.

I'd probably call it an action game if the camera was changed. The camera angle does influence how a game feels. For me there's also the fact that most of the game revolves around combat and action. It's hard to describe honestly. If someone asked me I'd tell them it was a dungeon crawler. The way the levels are designed, I don't feel like this game really rewards players for exploration, and the story is so minimal that it's just "there". The point is to kill shit IMO.

What do you mean by fixed stats? They have properties like making more/less damage to some enemies and similar things but overall weapons are more "survival horror-esque" that "dungeon crawler-esque" lol.
Anyway my post was more about "what the game really is" than "buy it", infact i clearly said that many people would not like it.

This is why i continue saying that it's neither a survival horror nor a dungeon crawler, it's something unique and original, it's hard to categorize.
About combats, they have that timed combo system, but overall they feel to me more "survival horror-esque" than "dungeon crawlers-eque".

The weapons do not have randomly generated stats and properties like in typical dungeon crawlers, and there does not seem to be much variety in the weapons either. The game just isn't for me, I guess.

Because you are still expecting a dungeon crawler from it, it has no loots, no randomly generated weapons and equipments, you have limited inventory, there are no spells and abilities etc, how can you call it a dungeon crawler? ;)
It's something different, there's nothing like it(or at least i have never played something similar)

"I will ask them why it’s not on Vita"

isn't SE new strategy is less games on handheld/consoles and more on iOS/Android? (iirc there was a big thread about this too)

yep, which is why the only real hope we have for that game is a psmobile release. they are not going to bother with the extra work it would take to make it native to Vita.

From a technical standpoint it would be much easier to make it a native Vita game than a PSM release.

That may be true, but I wonder if a company like SE would share the same limitations as some of the smaller creators. I would not have thought Chaos Rings would have worked on PSM as it stands now either, and thats the first game SE announced for their PSM support.

Psm? No, sadly sony messed up what was a good idea imo with heavy hardware limitations(among other things).

Also, does anyone know exactly how big the radius is that near uses to tally up total players? You can see that my map doesn't have anywhere near 32 players on it.

I can get anywhere from 60-120~ players. I'll post screenshot later.

Again I understand that, but with SE bringing Chaos Rings I have to wonder if those limitations apply to them. I always thought it was little weird that Sony made the Vita, and PS4 so easy to develop for, but completely boned PSM the way they have up to now.

BTW why is Real Racing 3 NOT on the Vita? I've played the shit out of it on my iPhone and would play way more of it if it's ported to the Vita hopefully @ native res and 60 FPS with some AA.

Most mobile games that make it to Vita become paid games instead of free games with micro-transactions, and I really doubt EA would be willing to get rid of micro-transactions in that particular game.

But surely Sony has the system in place to support F2P on the Vita considering Destiny of Spirits exists.....

I think it's because EA don't see gaming handhelds as a viable market at all, they don't have much for 3DS or Vita and Frostbite Go don't even support both of them (so think of it as same as the EA situation with Wii U but for handhelds).

Well, they do, yeah. Just saying very few mobile games so far have been free + micro-transactions on Vita; I think maybe none in the west. Destiny of Spirits might be the first f2p game with micro-transactions on Vita outside of Japan-only ones.

Wonder how that thing ends up playing, not that I would bother with it. And why such an awful looking d-pad, among other things.

Note (2?) sure does look good :) If you guys have one, make sure to update to latest firmware to prevent sudden death syndrome (no joke :'( ).

Also, yes, the games on it mostly suck and after the first week or two I went back to Vita 100% for games.

Max Payne was pretty good actually, but who needs the battery drain. I have a 32GB card too and I still don't want to waste music/video space on big games.

Some gems there though. And generally, I would prefer having them on the phone if they don't benefit from the inputs. Could do with more good android games. That's why I'm not all that bothered about Eufloria anymore, which is taking its sweet ass time.

Meh who would find your game and pay for it on iOS. Meanwhile in legit, digital Vita land where good games get appreciation...

Okay, maybe a few people would find it.

I have a plan for Evilvitagaf. Let's flood this sick yOS lover with tweets about a Vita version :D

Who want a shitty F1 game from Codemasters anyway? the studio is a complete joke right now (Racing games with no cockpit view, super stupid AI, you must do a specific "trick" over and over to win in Grid 2..ect)

it's better for everyone to write email and tweets to FIA and tell them to not renew the F1 License to Codemasters after this year and search for another studio.

But they don't own the studio, they could make another game in a similar vein for all the consoles.

iirc MS only does these exclusivity deals for one year. Thats why Notch was telling people to "be paitent" about Minecraft on other platforms(people asking about playstation versions). Same with Spelunky, and a variety of other games that were exclusive to MS for a time.

I dont know when Mark of the Ninja was released on 360, but I would be curious to see if there is any news after its been on the system for a year.

So... Im playing GoW : Ghost of Sparta and I think Im making a huge mistake....

When I finish this... How will I play Chains of Olympus?? Everything is regressed.. ughhh..

play God of War: Abomination on PS3 so then anything will be good and better by comparison and return to CoO... actually don't, no one should ever touch GOW:A ever, just wait few months/weeks so you adjust then try CoO.

So was looking around, but I could not find anything. Has anyone seen any info on who is doing the God of War HD collection port? Im alittle concerned since I guess Jak turned out to have some issues, I could see the first game transferring alright overall, but im alittle more conerned about 2. I know many probably dont have allot of interest in the port, but outside of the Ico Collection, and Okami this is one of the few exsisting collections I dont mind buying again for Vita.

I had not seen much info on it since it was announced at E3, so im hoping we get some gameplay for it atleast by Gamescom. Also hoping Ico gets announced so I can take Shadow with me whereever I want.

(assuming its bluepoint, but cant find any confirmation.)

We're not even getting Madden this year. EA hasn't completely cut support, but it's very minimal.

Though on the flip side, Chillingo, which EA owns, started supporting PS Mobile.

Chaos Rings is pretty much on part with a PSP game, which PS Mobile can handle. But more recent stuff is much more demanding.

I don't think we've heard. I know Bluepoint is doing Flower. Of course, that doesn't mean that's ALL they're doing. I'm still kinda bitter at Sony for their Jak Collection and Ratchet ports. Theu never mentioned a word about the lack of quality or a possible patch or anything. Doesn't make me trust them much.

loooool P4G's really got its teeth into me now. I actually didn't play it all week, but just picked it up again and let another 5 hours fly by, only realizing how much time had passed when my battery was almost drained. I'm 10 hours in now.

Even though it started too slow for my liking (if I had been more into the story from the start, this probably wouldn't have been an issue), this game is damn good. The gameplay systems are all so much fun, and complex without being daunting. I'm still not completely on board with the story and characters, but I think I might come around pretty soon in that regard as well. Ah man, P4G and SMT4 at the same time, this is truly RPG bliss.

side note: it also took me awhile to warm up to the lyrical music, but I actually like most of it now. A couple of the tracks are still a bit too repetitive for me, but in general it's quite enjoyable, even excellent at times.

I haven't heard anything about the ports yet, but I would also love to have the other ones you mention (Icon & SotC and Okami) on my Vita and I'd gladly buy them again just to have them natively in portable form.

I'm mostly hoping for more info on the GoW ports at Gamescom and hopefully an Ico port reveal at TGS alongside the announcement of TLG.

On another topic. Man, I'm concerned about my gaming budget with all the Vita games coming out in July/August. HM, Spelunky, Lone Survivor, Dragon's Crown, TWD. And that doesn't even take into account any potential PSN sales and KM coming out at the beginning of September.

Sounds good, that sucks about GoW:A , Ive heard meh things but I really can't believe they ruined the GoW formula?? Ive heard the same for Uncharted 3 as well? Still gotta grab em.

Ive just been looking forward to Golden Abyss and any other handheld GoW games.

I think the Vita is bound to get another title from each franchise (Besides GoW Collection)

I wouldn't mind. Also didn't this game have really poor localization or voiceovers?

It was due to the Ignition Entertainment localization. They're the worst localization studio ever. IIRC, ARF was supposed to be localized by Xseed but Ignition won the bid, so fuck Ignition.

It sucks but I get the feeling that GOWA was just an excuse to push out another GOW game on PS3. I hate that they had to milk it like that, and waste resources on the multiplayer (despite my enjoying the MP). Imo what they should have done was release a GOW game that was just the multiplayer by itself. Have a campaign were you can build up your character, unlock stuff etc.

Basically a version of powerstone with a God of War skin, and release that for PS3/Vita. Would have been better then PSABR, and I would have bought it.

It came out in September, so if it's coming, we'll hear something around then. I think we will, as it doesn't seem to require any extra effort from them and is basically free money (what with Sony setting indie developers up with other studios to port their games).
