Wait a hot minute. Corona Virus has ruined Gaming in 2020 FFS.

So obviously this CV pandemic is very serious and I hope no-one else is harmed by it, and I think we all should keep safe but I just realised something.

Obviously when the virus hits that means people won't be going into work in a lot of cases to stay safe and contain the spread of the CV.

So that means games studios will take the same approach right? So that means we could face further delays to much anticipated titles which may have irregular development cycles due to this horrific virus.

Looks like everything is suffering from CV, even fucking discs in plastic cases.

Funny how it's only the entertainment industry affected.

Sports games still happen though

Nah.

there's an interesting take from Schreier on how Coronavirus will impact quality or amount of contents of those AAA games that have lots of outsourced assets made by chinese studios.

Can we just stop with these dumb fucking threads about the COVID-19 virus "ruining" shit? Please read actual medical journals instead of relying on MSM and Social Media hysteria. FFS.

We have bigger things to worry about than wondering how our gaming hobby will be affected by the Covid-19 outbreak. Just be glad if the virus hasn't spread where you live.

Seriously, I know they've taken great strides in trying to contain it, but fuck China for trying to hide the truth of the disease. Had they acted sooner this shit wouldn't have happened.

Yep, definitely fuck China for trying to conceal it. I only hope the US government doesn't make a similar misstep. I don't want to be that guy going overboard, but I'm watching my old home state of Washington and thinking the flood is coming. Get ready to look out for your parents, grandparents, and elderly -- maybe prepare to reduce grocery store trips in the coming months if possible. Stuff like that.

mfw broken games, day 1 patches, dlcs taken straight out of the base product, GaaS, lootboxes, microtransactions and streaming didn't cause the Krach but BeerVirus will... :messenger_medmask:

na, everyone will telecommute. Sure some productivity will go down as a result, but life will go on.

i work in a county where at least 2 people have got it. I'm in the office today, traffic was hella light. Facilities is out trying to buy hand sanitizer for everyone lol!

Nah.

Italy is in lock down anyway.

The US isn't. So why cancel GDC? Will the fashion shows be cancelled?

I hope E3 gets canceled. Then we will finally realize how unnecessary these live press conferences are and can get better presented and edited gaming information via social media - the way 99.9% of us get the information anyway.

"ruined" is too strong of a word, "affected" though is ok imo. still bad for gaming, it's bad for everything really :messenger_loudly_crying:

Shouldn't every year be ruined by the "flu"?

The whole of the USA is still suffering PTSD from 2017 when 80,000 Americans died from the flu. Imagine if 1000 Americans die from coronavirus? It'll be lord of the flies before breakfast.

I can reply to myself as well.

This is sarcasm, for what it's worth, i.e. tens of thousands of Americans die every year of the flu & no one gives a shit. Likewise back in 2009 early reports of the influenza pandemic claimed it had a 7% (!!!) mortality rate & would thus kill millions upon millions of people. The WHO & mass media love this stuff.

That's what I keep saying to my family but no one seems to get it. I'd be more concerned about the volume of deaths than the death rate ... at least until it becomes as widespread as the flu. What I'd really like to see is people taking the flu half as seriously as CV.

Too much talking about the same subject.. fuck games fuck Corona.. just do not scare the ones who are living with you or around you by opening your mouth with this Corona thing .. everything will be ok we will get through this and gaming will get back to normal

I'm so fucking angry because I see people just from nowhere talk about Corona.. talk on food on work on home on fucking bathrooms! .. people need positive words uprising ones to brighten up their days not only scaring them with the same subject over and over again.. old people do not need to hear it over and over , kids do not need to hear it over and over , even if the world is ending just don't talk like that be light even if there is too much dark at least for the ones next to you

I agree with some of your reasoning but the point is to spread preventative awareness so that the coronavirus won't become as widespread as the flu. I know that you understand the difference between volume of deaths and the death rate. Sure, the approximate 3,048 deaths from the coronavirus isn't as much as the 291,000-646,000 deaths that happen from the flu every year. But that's 3,048 deaths out of 89,198 cases, compared to 291,000-646,000 deaths per 1 billion cases of the common flu. The common flu accounts for hundreds of thousands of deaths per billion and if the coronavirus spread like the flu we'd be seeing the loss of tens of millions.

Just because the total deaths from the coronavirus are less than the common flu right now, doesn't mean that we should panic and be preemptive when the total deaths are as much or more than the flu. We are already seeing that this virus is more deadly than the flu.

Side Note: While games, conventions, and other things might get delayed. Let's all just enjoy playing the games that we have at home will being safe. All the good things are still bound to come eventually.

The general flu statistically kills far more in a year than Corona virus. It's mainly elderly vulnerable people killed from Corona virus because its a new strain that was not known and initially hard to treat. Tbh most people seem to be retarded the way they are going on about this.

Social media is the real deadly disease feeding on people of all ages, sucking the IQ and logic out of everyone it affects.

Brother, that's now how statistics work. You can't just compare absolute death numbers without regarding case numbers.

I agree with you though.

Just wait til we're all self-quarantined at home for 2 months pew pewing each other. 2020 will go down as the best year for gaming ever.

Gaming is ruined? That's too bad. I guess your only other options are to watch a movie, read a book, learn a different language, go out with friends etc.

Imagine if there was actually a real threat to the general population of all ages around the world and someone still posted a thread on an internet forum worrying about more games being delayed.
