GAF's Bob Woodward
Most excellent.

I was somewhat disappointed by most of the movies I got hyped for in 2004, so I'll moderate my expectations on this for now. But I can't wait to see it.

I wish it was longer. Will that Dakota Fanning ever fet any taller? It seems like she's been in movies for years now and it's almost like she never gets all that older.

How dare you insult the greatness of WotW by comparing it to ID4!!!!

I thought anybody with taste erased ID4 from their memory. Seriously though, even though its been 10 years, it will be interesting how Speilberg avoids the huge pot holes that ID4 left in the road.

Pfft, I love Independence Day, and I'm Canadian. There's nothing wrong with liking a big budget action flick with comedy sprinkled on the side. ID4 fucking rocks, as it was never meant to be a Signs/War of the Worlds/intelligent alien drama movie.

ID4 was great, I have to say that.

As for this trailer, WOW. Althought tom's first line seemed a little forced. The rest played out great though. I wanna see those damn aliens though.

Never heard of "War of the Worlds" until I saw the teaser at the movies. I'm really interested in this movie, now.

...? Huh? You never heard of War of the Worlds and how when Orson Wells read on the radio in 1938 everyone thought it was real and it caused panic?

Haha, I can't believe people actually fell for that shit. Several years ago my dad found a vinyl record of the original broadcast. Awesome stuff.

Heh, I love that Orson Welles' broadcast had the alien invasion take place in my home town. I've always thought that was really cool.

Known as Grover's Mill at the time, now it is a part of West Windsor, New Jersey.

There's a small park out there with a plaque/monument that discusses the whole ordeal.

I think THIS would make a great movie...

Huh?

1) They made a War of the Worlds movie that took place in the past.

2) You couldn't make a movie about a "fake alien invasion" in modern day since now we have this thing called TV and instant breaking news when stuff happens.

3) They are making a War of the Worlds that takes place in the late 1800's or whenever the book does.

So what is it you want?

Yep. And yeah, it would probably have to about the original incident back in 1938. You could set it in modern day times, perhaps as a satire on cable news cough Fox cough... but it would be a stretch I agree. Having said that, alot of people take what they hear on the news as gospel..

Edit: Mana: Cool, never heard of it.. Ill check it out.

Don't. It's HORRIBLE. Bad Disney kids movie about stupid martians who land in a small town and everyone reacts to a repeat of War of the Worlds like it was real. Very retarded.

And even i am moderately surprised
"War of the Worlds by HG Wells is a single novel, split into two books.
Quite how that translates to three distinct parts I can't really imagine, but then I don't "

If i had to do it, i'd go with :

Part 1 : Eve of the War
Part 2 : Destruction of Mankind
Part 3 : Life under the martians + Dead London

Being a massive fan of the story, I'm pumped for all the WotW stuff... but i'd like them to keep all the themes as they are, and i want the ending
to have nothing to do with religion
or else blood will be spilt

Are they? I thought that was what the orginal Speilberg concept was and they changed it. I think I would have enjoyed the Victorian England version better.

No, there is some independant War of the Worlds movie that has already finished filming and they're going to try to cash in on the massive marketing for this movie in order to try to get people to see their's.

The big thing is that WotW and all of HG Welles work is well beyond public domain - with WotW being over 100 years old (somewhat ahead of his time, no? Alien invasions, lazers, chemical/biological weaponary etc...)

Also, there is to be a movie of the musical by Jeff Wayne as well - which, believe it or not, kicks all manner of ass. The art for the Album is the yard stick by which the three films will be judge IMO.

OVer at the various WotW fan sites, the discussions are going around about how they will animate the tripods - there is obviously a design issue with the Album one so that may change...

ah... good times.

Ah I looked on imdb.com just now and they only list the Cruise/Spielberg one. Do you have a link to a site for the other one.

I don't, no. I think they are trying to lay low with it. Despite the story being public domain, I don't think they want to piss of Dreamworks or Paramount too much.

Also, the cool thing about this spot is that it's the first footage from the movie released. The teaser trailer footage is NOT in the movie and was filmed just for the trailer (like the Spider-Man WTC teaser).

Well that would be boring as hell.

Yeah, some other company is making a completely different project, but I've been told it's nothing special.

So I hate to ask the obvious, but I missed the links, so is there anywhere else that this has popped up yet?

(Damn PSP thread took forever to get through)

IF you do not own this DVD:

then you most certainly do suck.. but.. good.. LORD that has to be one of the worst covers known to man... why the hell did the stick a modern cityscape on there?!?!?!?

Idiots.

Maybe if this movies does well we'll get a special edition DVD of this older one!

my Great Aunt (who is in her 70s) got freaked out years ago when she saw an Independance Day commercial on tv and started calling random relatives and telling them to stay indoors and pray and shit. It was hilarious.

Didn't FOX do a fake "Breaking News" special on ID4 before the movie came out? Kinda like that "Mutant Watch" thing they did for X-Men, only played more realistically? Or am I just making that up?

No-one would have believed that in the last years of the nineteenth century that human affairs were being watched from the timeless worlds of Space. No-one could have dreamed that we were being scrutinised as someone with a microscope studies creatures that swarm and multiply in a drop of water. Few men even considered the possibility of life on other planets. And yet, across the gulf of Space minds immeasurably superior to ours regarded this Earth with envious eyes. And slowly, and surely, they drew their plans against us.
