Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War 2 |OT| FOR THE EMPEROR!!

OK Playing the campaign and just finished the mission where I have to capture generators to close some gate. Real fun mission, BUT, my favorite squad (the dudes with the jump packs) died right before the mission ended and I didn't get to revive them. Now they are no longer listed in my campaign screen! Are they lost forever or is their a way to get them back? I loved those guys!

Did you put the jump pack on Tarkus?

Tarkus leaves for a mission as there is a second part to that one. Finish it and you'll get him back.

If you mean Thaddeus I don't know what to tell you.

Oh it is Tarkus. I don't pay attention to their names just their position number (1-4). I am not paying attention to the story either lol. It probably mentioned that he was leaving.

Also, I want to find more warhammers. I've only picked up one. :(

Same problem here, game ending Achievement wasn't unlocked. I really hope they fix this, as well as coop crash bugs (single player has been mostly crash-free for me).

Warhammers? I need some damn bolt pistols. My Thaddeus still has a level 6 one I found ages ago. :p

Also, has anyone else run into the population cap bug? I think it has to do with fully reinforcing a squad that is down a few men... Apparently the final member takes up twice as much population as he's supposed to. By late game this can really mess up your army, where you'll have maybe 4 squads and 98 population, putting you at a huge disadvantage.

The only way to avoid it to either not lose any units from a squad, or to leave a guy off of the squad (since only the last member bugs it). This pretty much devastates Space marine players.

A fix is needed so badly. ><

What is it some of the space marines say when they're fighting? I think it sounds so awesome but I haven't heard it in a while (switched thaddeus with thule).

"Show me what passes as fury amongst your misbegotten kind"?

And the upgraded hellfire (or whatever it's called) ability with Thule is the coolest thing I've seen in years. So epic to see him use it, especially when there are buildings too in his line of fire :D :D

Played my first retail 3v3 online game last night with the space marines and the force comander which I havent played before.

Had amazing fun with the dreadnaughts mowing down 3-4 squads of orks a time laughing manically in the process!:D

Yes, I've only found one warhammer. I have a few bolt and plasma pistols, my FC is using one of the plasma pistols with the xenosplitter chainsword till I can find a new warhammer.

Thaddeus for me is assault terminator, I picked up a new hammer/shield for him but it was the last level so the game ended and I couldn't use it. :(

Is it sad I'm just playing through for new equipment? :lol

I haven't seen an assault cannon for Thule yet, is it because I made him Venerable?

Damn once you get Tarkus the veteran squad upgrade, he's unstoppable. 1k of HP, three plasma guns and free grenades. Yummy.

Mrbob have you played the multiplayer vs. at all? If you're still bad (like I) we should get some head to head going.

I didn't even know you could rank up. What does ranking up in MP get you?

But yeah, I'll play assuming I'm not playing the campaign all night.

I got 2 different ones as rewards for optional missions iirc. Just keep doing those and they might pop up.

Yeah I'm noticing a ton of optional missions popping up right now too, mostly defensive ones. Trying to get through them all to see if they end.

I have not tried the multi yet. I'm down for trying to get some action in this weekend. Been playing strictly the campaign.

You can't rank up playing custom games. You have to use matchmaking and play against other people.

Finally picked up my copy today, and jumped straight into co-op with a buddy of mine. Played 3-4 missions, and I really like what I've seen so far. Some fairly straightforward mission designs, but the unique take on the campaign keeps things entertaining. Can't wait for my buddy to get back so we can play some more.

I loved what I played of the Multiplayer Beta, so throw me a friend invite if you want a decent-ish 3v3 partner.

Damn, Tarkus can't use frag grenades while in terminator armor, that sucks. I had just given him the frag grenade usable via energy trait before switching him over! I should have tried this ahead of time!

Also, I think this frag grenade energy trait is worthless. It uses up 75 energy per throw, which is quite a bit considering his victory march trait is persistently draining energy as it is active. Also, supply crates are plentiful on maps so replenishment is easy to find. On my next playthrough I will not be going this route!

Shame about the lack of usable frag grenades for him, but I'll take the 6 times ranged weapon boost I have for him in his terminator armor (215 to 1325) instead!

Having Tarkus, Thaddeus, and Avitus all in terminator armor makes the group of four with the force commander a team to be reckoned with. :lol Too bad the terminator armor destroys all cover around your units if they walk in its direction. Would be nice if the AI pathfinding would be better so they walk around cover than right through it.

Damn, just finished the campaign with my commander at level 18. It was so awesome, I wanted it to go on forever.

I'm not interested in the online multiplayer part (too hectic for me), so I'm patiently awaiting the inevitable expansion pack.

I just purchased Company of Heroes via Steam because I loved the tactical gameplay so much.

The Dreadnought is definitely sexy for defense missions. I didn't like him for regular missions, since he is slow and requires down time to repair (only available with a trait). But he can dominate in defense missions against all 3 major factions. Just set him up near the base (Usually put him right behind a turret or two) and he will beast all enemies incoming. Use his ranged barrage fire to take enemies out from a distance, and if they get close to the ground pound move which will wipe them out. His energy respawns extremely fast as well, so by the time your special abilitiy is ready to go again he is at near full energy. This is nice because you can take out a big chunk of an enemy wave from a distance right away, and then smash them in the ground when they get close (especially tyranids). By the time another big wave rolls in you have your abilities back.

Vic Viper try the game in co op. It is a different experience and one I find more enjoyable.

Also, one last thing about the achievements for this title. It is lame that some of them are only attainable via the host in co op. I joined my friends game the entire time, and he has 3 achievements I don't since he was the host. Even though I helped him every step of the way.

Anyone have any idea how GFW match making is set up, is it something close to what Halo does?
I am getting smoked by experienced players left and right, how in hell do I find another noob to play with? I keep getting beat by people with winning records, there has to be someone as shitty as me?

How the hell do you travel to
Planet Meridian?
I've been back and forth between the first two starting planets and I can't for the life of me find it on the map. Is there something I have to do beforehand? I have just finished
Into The Hive, with the Thule-Dreadnought comeback.

I really, really hope my campaign isn't bugged. :/

I wondering similar things about my campaign. I'm about 18-19 days into the campaign, absolutely loving it, but the tyranid infestation is spreading like crazy on Caldaris and there are no missions I can take on the planet to counter it. WTF is up with that?

The other two planets I have available missions on have the infestation under control, but now Caldaris is 2 segments away from being totally overrun yet there aren't any missions at all.

:-(

Same, sorta. Except I'm on day 23. And all Calderis and Whatever missions are all greyed out.

I think the patches messed with saved games. Same thing happened to me with Calderis. It's now fully overrun with Tyranid, somehow, but no missions (and it also never mentioned anything about the total infestation).

Actually, there is one optional orc mission there, but I can't even start it up without the game giving me a scripting error. The stuff on other planets is fine, though.

Thing is, I didn't buy the game until last week, so I haven't downloaded any patches since starting the campaign...

Finished the campaign tonight. Last mission was pretty epic. Loved the setting.

Unfortunately I didn't get my co op achievement or game completion achievement. Searched online and it looks like these are borked. Hopefully Relic patches the game soon.

Also, funny to see neogaf in the credits for thanks in the online community.

Normally a quiet and placid kind of guy, seeing Steam telling me that the game I have just installed off DVD "is not available, please try later" instantly turns me into a raving savage.

Colour me very unimpressed - also the fact you have to log into Windows Live even if you are playing single player only - I suppose that is for the acheivements though.

The game itself - awesome - Good Game (game review show in Australia), slagged it for being too short and too easy - they must have played it on Noddy mode. I chose the second hardest setting and it's no walkover.

Those Steam error messages can easily be fixed by simply restarting Steam, but if you want to avoid the need to connect to Steam altogether, just run it in offline mode.

So whats the trick to this game on Primarch difficulty? Right now, I'm just attacking a group, fall back, thin some more numbers, fall back, thin more numbers etc etc. It's really driving me mental. My units just get ripped to pieces. I put my long range weapon specialists in buildings they still get ripped to pieces. I put my melee units forward and long range units behind to surpress the enemy my melee units still get ripped down quickly.

It's driving me mental....

What the hell is up with the loot table. Cyrus is already lvl 20 and I'm still using a lvl 3 sniper rifle . : < : < : <

Contrary to some of the posts above , I have been bombarded with plenty of side missions .Hell , I just got to the 3rd planet and all my units are already lvl 20 :lol .

I find it annoying that you have to have both a Steam account and a GFW Live! account to play Dawn of War II. Plus i have to be online to even play the single player campaign.

Otherwise, the game campaign is excellent, and i'm having a blast. I kinda miss base construction and developing huge armies, but it compensates with the micromanagement of your units and RPG-style personalization. Using the special abilities of your units can be the difference between life and death.

Dawn of War II easily wins game of the month for me. I am up to Level 6-7 and I have yet to take on side missions. Am I missing something?

Yeah, that's one thing I don't like all that much about it. I did a lot of side missions as well and I too am stuck with a sucktastic sniper rifle. That and I still want an Ork campaign, like yesterday :D .

They need to add some kind of store interface. The loot drops aren't consistent enough to properly gear out your guys.

Only a level 3 sniper rifle with Cyrus? Damn. :lol

I've been lucky, getting some great loot drops during the game.

They don't really start popping up in big numbers until you get near the end game.

I see an update went up for the title today. Nothing too exciting.....

A change is being made on Games for Windows ® LIVE today to improve the Multiplayer experience for Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II players. Ranked and Custom game modes requiring Games for Windows ® LIVE will now only match players using the latest version of the game. Players should see a higher percentage of compatible games in the custom games list and reduced search times during matchmaking. Players with an out of date version of Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II will need to connect to Steam in 'online mode' to download the latest patch.

Players choosing to remain in 'off-line' mode will continue to have access to off-line Campaign and LAN game modes without connecting to Games for Window ® LIVE or Steam.

I wish they would fix the achievement issue.

This has been the perfect game to just pop in a level a day. They are bite-sized enough to jump in and jump out. I love it :) It's a great game to balance out my other strategy current love affairs with Sins of a Solar Empire and Civilization 4: Beyond the Sword.

I've never been a RTS kinda guy but I must admit I keep hearing about DoW2 and I wonder if a RTS noob could get into it easily or it's just too crazy hardcore for me? (Loved some red alert clone on ps2 though, that doesn't say much)

thanks! :)

Mrbob

It isn't anything like Red Alert (you can get red alert 3 for 30 bucks now if you like that style). In fact....calling it an RTS is a bit of a stretch. It is an action game where you control multiple squads (4 in single player, 2 in co op). The game is fantastic and it isn't hard to get into with the controls. If anything, the game is streamlined compared to your modern day RTS and is easier to pick up and play. Definitely worth purchasing.

Ugh. Giving up on my campaign. I think it's bugged. Started a new one on the level difficulty just under Primarch. Getting my ass handed to me pretty bad, any protips?

You know, I played my first playthrough on Coop with my friend on Primarch, and we did pretty well.
I'll admit that controlling only two squads is considerably easier than controlling 4 at once, but here are some tips:

-Learn the hotkeys by heart, every single one of them!
-Use cover! Remember: Heavy (aka "Green") Cover is better than buildings.
-Use your units in combos: Let the Force Commander break through the lines, and put Avitus behind him in heavy cover. Once Avitus is ready to shoot, let the Commander fall back. Use Tarkus as Backup for Avitus.
-You can give Cyrus the frag grenades so he can exterminate squads from the shadows. Use stealth as much as possible.
-Don't skimp on your disposables. There are plenty of supply crates.

I've been doing most of those pretty well, except I tend to use Thadeus instead of Cyrus.

And usually I get Avitus under the best cover I can find then send in the Force Commander and leave him in the trenches while Tarkus provides backup and Thadeus storm jumps in to knock some fools around.

I guess I just have to get better at microing. This is the first RTS (and to call it that is kindof a stretch since it's such a new thing) I've ever been able to play with any level of competence.

Other tips are welcome, and of course thanks, Des0lar.

I'd urge you not to ignore Cyrus. Either replace Tarkus or Thadeus. Currently, I like Thadeus more than Tarkus, but the fact that he disperses all the enemies after a jump makes it harder for my backup units to take em out, so I'm not 100% sure yet.

Cyrus is easily one of the best units in the game. The only caveat is this: get him the 3rd energy ability. This allows him to use accessories from stealth! This even includes explosive shots! You can send him into enemy territory, blast up their squads with grenades, pop a few explosive shotgun shots, and the battle becomes a hell of a lot easier.
