Wario Ware Touched! Impressions

Finished this last night. Pretty ho-hum overall. It's too short, there's not enough variety in the games, many of the games just aren't that fun (or funny), and the cut-scenes are long and stupid.

Mawaru was a huge step forward for the series but I'm afraid Sawaru is a bit of a step back.

I still have a lot of games to unlock, but unless they're all stellar, AAA-quality games, it'll be really hard for this to come anywhere close to topping Mawaru.

Hopefully they'll take some time and beef it up for the US version. And trim Mona's retarded five-minute cut-scene down to like 30 seconds.

So how import friendly is this game for someone that doesn't know a lick of Japanese?
very, you don't really need to know it at all

I like this one a lot, but I haven't played twisted yet so I'm just happy to be playing some new warioware games. Seems like there should have been a few more minigames, but I'm pretty satisfied with what they give you. I haven't put anything else into my DS since getting this, and I really enjoyed Mario 64. Just have to get all the flowers on all the minigames so I can finish unlocking everything else.

I just have to find someone with Twisted so I can unlock that one minigame that you get for having them both in the DS :(

I don't know, maybe it is just a cinema, but I don't have it :(

I finished unlocking all of the minigames for each characters (they all have crowns, hurray)

I think all I have left is getting the flowers on each individual minigame

It's a cinema but it's a very awesome one. Probably my favorite of the unlockables in Sawaru :)

Is that how you get the
Mona Pizza PV
? Cause that fuckin' ROCKED. Of course, since most of the rockingness is on loan from Mawaru, it's hard to hold it in Sawaru's favor. :(

Sawaru and Mawaru are about equal in my opinion. I've had every Sawaru minigame unlocked for a couple days now, and am working on getting flowers on all of them. There are definitely a few that're annoying (most of the blowing ones, for example), but overall I've really enjoyed a lot of the creative uses of the touch screen. There aren't as many unlockables as in Mawaru, which is a bit of a bummer, but then Mawaru had more unlockables than any other game I've played in my entire life.

One thing I've particularly enjoyed is the use of the second screen for "match this picture" style mini-games, where a completed picture of some sort is shown and has to be matched via drawing or moving pieces around. So much emphasis has been put on the touch screen that I think most people have overlooked how much the second screen subtly adds to the game.

Pyoro-T
and some of the other unlockable mini-games are downright awesome, too. And what's with the cutscene hate? Yes the mona scene is a bit longer than the rest, but I could swear there have been scenes of similar length in the old games. After reading some of the comments on here I was pretty much dreading the cutscenes when I first put the game in, but I was relieved to see that they're pretty much exactly like the ones in the other games.

Oh, and I dunno if you've seen it yet Brandon, but you can unlock a mini-sound test with the Ashley song and a couple of others, and listen to it uninterrupted. It rules!

Are there any unlockable mini-games based on old Nintendo Games like the first one? Like Dr. Wario and Flyswat?

Question for bobby, etc:
I have a couple crowns, I'm assuming it's cause I unlocked every game for that character? Are there different-colored crowns? And how do you get flowers?

BTW, did anyone else try putting the original Made in Wario in the GBA slot? As far as I can tell, nothing happened... unless I missed it?

Yeah, you get a silver crown once you have played every one of a character's games. Once you've gotten silver crowns for all characters (don't forget WarioMan - you turn Wario into him by feeding him that little onion creature thing), you unlock Pyoro-T.

You can check out the requirements for the flower for each game by clicking on it and waiting for the text to scroll by on the top screen. The yellow number that scrolls by is how many rounds in a row you have to pass in order to earn the flower for that stage. It's usually somewhere between 10 and 25. Once you've gotten flowers on all of a character's games, he or she gets a gold crown.

Right now I'm trying to get all gold crowns, and it's pretty painstaking. I just finished off the entire set of blowing games, which just about killed me. Luckily I have a couple friends here to help out. We're trading off, so it's going pretty fast!

that's about the same from me too.

Disappointing overall.

I'd have thought there would have been way more great ideas but they never really came. I though Mawaru was far better.

At least, you can play both on DS :)

How is the Ds with respect to the sensor equipped game ??

Too heavy or alright ??

Wow. And I thought Mawaru was disappointing compared to the original. Hopefully mine will turn up today.

How would you compare Sawaru's mini games with Mario 64's and Feel the Magic? I wasn't that keen on feel the magic, and so far only about 4 of the Mario 64 ones are fun for me to play more than once or twice.

to be honest, i've been too busy playing the UTTERLY FANTASTIC Hitofude to try anything out ... well, other than Zoo Keeper.

Hitofude is really fun, but for a game so simple to lack single-cart multiplayer drops it like two full letter grades. >:(

...i thought it had single cart play?

ah well, i'm playing checkmate mode, so i don't really care! :)

I guess it's Band Brothers all the way on Saturday night/Sunday morning then?

Just a heads up, guys. I spent many hours "flowering" every last microgame in Sawaru Made in Wario, and found that the prize you receive for doing so is absolutely worthless. In case anyone else is bothering, do yourself a favor and stop now. There's no Pyoro variant or anything similar waiting for you. :(

so hitofude is recommended? Nice and easy to understand?

If you could only choose one, would you take that, or zoo keeper?

Is it true that this was made by Intelligent Systems and not R&D1?? I heard a rumor floating around that this was a different dev team and doesn't feel up to par with the other two. If so that sucks...

I wonder if Sawaru's problems are from a tight dev. schedule. Maybe this was a more rushed product than the other WarioWares?

ZooKeeper (or Zoooo ) is crack on the GBA. Is there anything extra on the DS version that warrants buying it if you already have the GBA one?

Tell more about this Hitofude...

Zoo keeper...
or
Hitofude...

hmm....

Hitofude isn't for everyone - it's quite slow paced and, as i've found out in the later stages, VERY VERY hard.

Zoo Keeper is more fun.

Um...
it's kind of like, Hitofude is the sort of game your mam/dad would like - sort of like those word search puzzles, where Zoo Keeper is a bit more bright coloured and fun.

Erm... personally , i'm an old fart, so i prefer Hitofude because it makes me think.
But ZooKee is way more fun for short bursts of excitement (quest mode rocks).

Both the explaination of Hitofude's gameplay and Zoo Keepers quest mode require a decent level of Japanese by the way (in case you are thinking of importing)

shit, I'm going to buy two aren't I?

I love those mosaic puzzle magazines at the mo - like minesweeper but on paper. You work out the solutions and it draws a picture.

Well, for one thing, playing with the stylus makes all the difference in the world when you're on the harder levels. Also, single-card multiplayer rocks! :)

I know Famitsu isn't the authority but

Made in Wario = 35
Marawu = 36
Sawaru = 36

Seems like it's up to par.

very little.
it does, however, have a lot to do with Famitsu's credibility.

well personally I never played the game. I would imagine the voice recognition is alot smoother when your playing it in Japanese...

I trust Famitsu enough to know that they're not afraid to point out flaws in a popular franchise. They gave Mario 64 DS a 30.

It's not. I played through the tutorial and got "perfect" voice recognition grades, but the main game was just as wonky and misbehaving as the English version.

Well, you know, there's multiple Japan-based GAFfers unafraid to point out flaws in the latest game in popular Made in Wario franchise. You're just choosing to ignore them.

Trusting Famitsu more than me, John, Bebpo, bobbyconover, and DCharlie ... that's cold, man.

But are you people arguing that Famitsu rated the game too highly or are you simply saying it's not the best game since sliced bread / it's less good than the last Warioware game?

My copy of this & Mr. Driller just shipped from Lik-sang, so I'll judge for myself soon enough, but you're making it sound like a disaster!

You, John, Bebpo, bobbyconover, and DCharlie "hate it". Famitsu and Fowler seem to love it.

I posted the Famitsu scores to put the 3 versions in perspective since you guys have only been comparing it to "Mawaru". Most of us haven't played that one either.

Hmm. Sounds cool actually, especially if it's super hard. The japanese thing isn't a problem for me.

I wonder if they're making a MojiPittan style game for DS too. I know there's a PSP one but it seems like a natural for the stylus interface. MojiPittan is a great game for the Japanese student when you can get the dictionary entry in game for any of your words... many of which are made on accident :D

As for the stylus-based Zoo Keeper, it sounds like there's an advantage to it. Maybe I'll just get both. This is coming out soon in the US anyways right?

Sawaru is already on its way to me though. Probably getting it today or tomorrrow. Hopefully I'll get my money's worth out of it at least even it sounds a bit disappointing.

i finished the game earlier today, and i too side with the idea that mawaru is superior to sawaru. i was actually sitting at a dentist waiting room when i was playing the set of games that require blowing into the mic... the challenge of not looking like a nut in public was quite amusing in itself. maybe it's because i played mawaru first so therefore i see some of the games being recycled for sawaru that took away some of the enjoyment/ surprise, but some of the boss designs especially for mawaru i thought was more enjoyable & amusing. still, sawaru is highly recommended.

I don't think any of us said we 'hate it'. We all think it's fun, just a bit disappointing after Mawaru.

If I had to compare the two I'd say Mawaru is a 9.5 and Sawaru is an 8 with the original being somewhere between.

Did you miss post #60, by chance? I believe I said Sawaru is about equal to the previous (awesome, ass-kicking) game in the series, and pointed out various things about it that "rule!" I followed that up with posts detailing some of the items that're unlocked when you spend numerous hours playing through the game and getting perfect scores on every last microgame, which I don't think someone who hates the game would bother doing.

That doesn't mean I'm going to keep quiet about any issues I have with it, though, and I certainly wouldn't be giving it any 10s if I wrote for a mag. As cool as the game is in ways, that's just pushing it a bit. Regardless, I don't believe that any member of our supposed hate squad has recommended that you or anyone else refrain from buying the game, because we all acknowledge that it's pretty good. It's just that most of us (including me now, after finishing Sa and playing a bunch more Ma to compare) prefer Mawaru overall.

beat the game today. haven't played Mawaru, but im a huge fan of the series. i think the game is great. too different to compare to the original though. Sawaru is definitely more wacky and insane and stuff, but at the same time, isn't as intense as the original. having said that, Sawaru doesn't seem to be as twitched gameplay based as the original.

for the guys that own the game,
what's the deal with that grandma mini game thing. what are you supposed to do? and how many toys are there to unlock all in all?

I like this a little better than Feel the Magic, but I still feel they should have done more with it. This is my first entry into the Made in Wario series (skipped the 2 GBA games).

It is fun, the type of fun that I can handle in 10-15 min sessions, but I think they could have had a little more variety with the minigames.. I love the wackiness of them, but just execution-wise.

WACKY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ZANY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!PUDDING

I never said anything about "hating" it. Reading comprehension -1

As bebpo and bobby said, it's still a very good game. It's just somewhat disappointing, especially when compared to the previous version (Mawaru). I'm still playing it and having fun with it (going for all the gold crowns now, in fact).

Do any DS games that use the stylus also require using the d-pad? If so can you remap that to the buttons? Just wondering how friendly the system is to lefties.

Yeah, nobody hates it! It's just disappointing that the "DS Killer App" ended up being not as good as the month-old GBA version. Too many of Sawaru's games are just variations on "draw a line."
