+50 hours in an RPG you haven't touched in years...

An Absolute Desaster
If you have children or for some other reason limited time to play games, you just have to come to terms with the fact that you won’t ever finish these games.

It’s years ago and you missed/forgot huge parts of the story, so no point in jumping back in. If you have a lot of free time start over, if not move on to another game, there are enough good ones out there.

Tip for the future, if you plan to finish a game, make sure to finish it before starting another one. I know there are times when you want to start the new one as soon as possible, but if you do so, be okay with the possibility to never finish the other one…

For me its Radiata Story in Ps2. It is great Rpg but I stop at the part where you need to choose sides. Its strange I stop. Maybe I busy or a new game came up. I dont know. But it is a very good rpg.

If you have all the free time in the world and don't have other hobbies, knock yourselves out I guess... but a complete restart in some massive, 70 hour RPG is crazy in an age where YouTube exists.

I just did this coming back to Elden Ring prior to the DLC... went through a thorough Elden Ring story/cutscenes super-edit on YouTube. Brought me right back into everything, good refresher on all story beats and only took a couple hours or something like that? It's like watching a movie. Watched it right up until where I was in the story, headed to the Mountaintop of Giants. Then took my character and farmed some souls in a few different areas to get a handle on my build/controls. Worked a treat!

Going to do the same thing with RDR2 & Cyberpunk... one day.

I probably put it away again and don't go back. If I didn't like it enough to finish the first time I probably wouldn't like it now.

If I can fast travel in the game to previous sections I will go back to some easy to farm areas, spend some time with the characters, and get back into the game mechanics....then I just stop playing the game again once I am comfortable with it again. I mean I stopped before so why would I finish it now?

If that isn't an option then I will start the game again, play for a few hours to spend some time with the characters, and get back into the game mechanics....then I just stop playing the game again once I am comfortable with it again. I mean I stopped before so why would I finish it now?

A great option not available before? ChatGPT. You can generally say where you are and get yourself a summary of everything that's happened and what to do next.

With more games taking longer and longer to finish, I've been doing this more and more often.

If it’s a linear game I just go back to it and try to remember how to play it. Did it with FF7 Remake recently when Rebirth was announced for PC.

If it’s an open game with proper roleplaying I start over with a new character.

For me, I start over with a fresh save if I haven't played the game in a few months.
Yep,same here, and i feel dread more than excitement before starting it again as it's such a waste of progress most of the time but it's better for the story experience to start all over.

I can't seem to recall an RPG that I started, liked and ditched after playing for 50 hours.....except for Pillars of Eternity which I reaaally liked. If I ever return to it I will probably start from the beginning because I will most likely be totally lost.

Don't restart from the beginning. You will stop playing at the same point where you stopped first and will end up in the same situation.

Invest a couple hours getting back into the game, and continue. This is what I always do.

I usually do a fresh playthrough when I pause a long game and don't touch it for months. It's not even about the story, but also about forgetting about what else I've done and how the general mechanics work. Plus I always enjoy those moments of playing as an absolute rookie in the first few hours.

I plan to continue back from where I left off most likely. I need to do this with FF15. I got about half way through the game and just stopped playing but I still want to finish the game.

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
Really depends on if you remember all the stuff or not. I did a 2 month break at the middle of SMT V: Vengeance and had no trouble jumping back in.

If I don’t push through at the start it’s basically over.

Reinstalling a game and vaguely remembering the game mechanics and seeing a quest log with 50 items is just super demoralising.

Baldur's Gate 3, I just started over again. This time I actually finished it for myself and did a playthrough with a friend. Now it's time for the evil playthrough! Though I've already been distracted with Valheim, where I started all over again too.
