Wario Ware Touched! Impressions

No multiplater of any kind.

I know.

This is not true. You forget the "Ping-Pong" mini game that you can play with the triggers. Very simple, but decent for about 5 minutes of 2 player action.

I love this game also! It is perfect for getting girls interested in the DS and having a laugh.

I just played through it. As everyone here has said, Mawaru is the superior of the two.

The main issue is the interface. I think there are actually too many possible inputs.

When I first got Mawaru I was worried that it was going to be too easy, having only really two possible (although technically analog) inputs: left or right turn. But obviously there was a lot of fun stuff they were able to throw at us under those constraints, and rarely did you not know what you had to do to win.

Sawaru has all kinds of possible inputs since you can press and drag from anywhere to anywhere. In many ways it's a form of control with almost no constraints and therefore perhaps too many control possibilities.

In Sawaru the gameplay is mostly about figuring out what to do. Actually doing it is easy.
In Mawaru you usually figure out what to do immediately. Actually doing it right is the gameplay.

Games like wario ware make me wish both the screens were touch screens =/
It would be nice... but might be a design problem. I recently had a hunch as to why the two screens at all, since touch is the main feature. Other than the story that Yamauchi said they should. My guess is it went something like this.

Nintendo Man #1: Okay, we've got a touch screen. So how are we going to shape this thing; like the GBA SP?
Nintendo Man #2: Waitwait, I don't think people using touch-screen on the flip-up part will work so well. Shouldn't the touch be on the base they're holding?
#1: OK... but now with controls and screen this thing is GBA wide. The flip design of the SP is pretty popular. Especially considering that we're begging for people to constantly stroke plastic tools across this screen, it's going to need all the extra protective help it can get.
#2: So what? Would you have us design a unit that flips up an equal-sized portion to be used only for speakers? Maybe I can add in a mirror and compartment for your makeup?
#1: Hold on, bare with me now. What about... a second screen?
#2: Buh?
#1: Sure. As long as it's not a touch screen it's not like it's going to cost us jack. We can stick extra shit up there. Doesn't really matter what. Plus, it wil help to differentiate this thing from the Game Boy line... which we really kinda need.
#2: OK, sounds like a plan. Now how about that motion control!
#1: You didn't get the memo, did you? We've decided to take that out. If we include both features in one machine, we'll be expected to make most of our games use both features, which will blow our load much quicker. By leaving it out of the DS, we can separately sell Wario Ware... with Touch. And Wario Ware... with Tilt!
#2: And separately sell Yoshi with touch and Yoshi with tilt?
#1: Now you've got it!

My copy of this arrived today. I played through the story mode in about 2-3 hours. I really love what I have seen so far. I never played Twisted!, so I don't know what I am missing, I suppose. I'm sure this can tide me over until that games Stateside release. The language barrier was no problem at all, and like someone posted previously, it's added challenge not to understand the little hints you get.

Longevity seems to be similar to the first title... unlimited if you want it to be, way too short if you aren't into it. It's been a while since I played WarioWare (I played the Cube one a little about 6 months back), and it's good to be playing again.

Obviously a few of the minigames will be censored a little. :)

I'm looking forward to earning flowers on each of the games... That was probably my favorite part on GBA WarioWare.

I love the new Goth Girl character. She rules. I'm a tiny bit disappointed by 9-Volt's minigames... they aren't really as fun w/ the touchscreen (with a few exceptions, such as Duck Hunt), since they're all based on NES games.

Really, I don't have any complaints. This seems to be as high-quality as the first one to me.

Killer app? I dunno. Killer time playing tonight? Definitely.

Also, I got Driller DS. The mode w/ the bonus items is a lot of fun & I confirmed single-card multiplayer. I'm definitely glad I imported this one too!
