You are contradicting yourself,
You say that Black Widow being the biggest female hero is a failure on DC's part and that WB isn't following Marvel's groundwork, yet Marvel did the same damn thing that DC is now doing.
Marvel shoehorned her into Iron Man 2(which was widely criticised at the time) and she coasted into the Avengers spotlight, DC is taking Wonder Woman and putting her in "Superman 2".

I see your point, but the difference in that case to me would be that Black Widow went from a c-tier character in comic pop culture to top tier through that work. It's DC's failure because they have a character they're talk about like is A-List but continually treat like c-list. She deserves better than to be shoehorned in the way Widow was and more the the point, doesn't need to be.

I liken Wonder Woman to the Incredible Hulk, incredibly iconic characters that then landed tv series that still resonate in pop-culture today, but heroes that have also caught on more as icons than the actual characters.
The difference being that Marvel still recognised that Hulk is a big deal and made two movies before he was supporting cast.

I'm not saying this can't all turn out awesomely and Wonder Woman won't steal the movie and become the next huge thing, I just don't think she should share the spotlight with genuine b and c-list characters while the long shadow of a new Batman is cast over the whole thing.

Man this is going to be such a big flop. No faith at all here in the MoS sequel or Justice League.

Snyder is so lucky, all three films could be bad but the content guarantees big gross which is all the studio cares about.

And Goyer isn't writing the movie anymore.

...This has got to be the 20th time I've typed that sentence. It's like these threads are stuck in some kind of temporal loop.

You think those sort of posters care about facts? they have the blinders on and the hate levels up.

He sure looks the part, but he couldn't act if his life depended on it. His depth is that of a cardboard box.

Ermm..this is superhero movie. Outside of maybe Batman every superhero on screen so far had depth of cardboard box.

A Shazam movie is a bit of a surprise, even if it was considered before then abandoned.
I hope they managed to sneak in the actual Captain Marvel name in there, preferably drop the hoodie from recent depiction (unlikely if Rock plays him, since his head always seems fully shaved nowadays...), maybe sneak in the actor playing Bill Batson being rescued by Supes in the BvS movie before the actual movie is out, and take notice of everything the Return of Black Adam animation did right.

I can hope, at least...

I hope to God the Green Lantern costume looks better in the Justice League movie than this hot mess.

Its such a simple outfit, how do you fuck it up so bad?

The failure started at the concept level and grew from there.
So not only did you have them wanting to make the suit alien, the decision to go CG was also bad and to top it off the CG department couldn't even make it look half decent.

God that mask is horrendous.

Green lanterns issues was always it's script and story. Ryan actually did best he could to save film but having everything CG was stupid how they think floating Ryan Reynolds head was a good idea. Also mark strong as sinestro was perfect but completely ignored

Worst mask ever. Worse than Superman-unglassed.

I have a green stripe across my eyes, no one will ever recognize me now!

On a purely technical level Snyder is a good action director but hes pretty awful at everything else. There will be a lot of characters to juggle in Justice League and I'm not sure he has the skills to let them all breathe in the narrative. He did ok with watchmen but it was still very soulless. I'll give it a chance, I genuinely want the film to do well, but I'm not sure snyder has the chops. Man of steel was really awful.

The biggest problem of GL was that it looked and felt like a shitty mid 90s super hero movie. WAS the script written in the 90s? It feels and looks like it would have been right at home with Barbed Wire or Meteor Man played straight. Or Steel.

Wait hold up so Gal Gadot is confirmed as Wonder Woman......no hope of recasting?

Not that I dislike her or anything, just not sure she can pull off Wonder Woman, unless shes getting a relatively small role.

I feel we are building towards a bigger crow eating fest since Heath Ledger as Joker crow fest.

One way or the other, crow will be eaten. It will be a glorious feast.

She's contracted for three movies. World's Finest, JLA, and another one that most are guessing is a solo WW film. So no recasting unless something behind the scenes happens.

We got Marvel to produce their own Avengers movie franchise, prompting WB to plan to produce their own Justice League movie franchise.

I dunno, seems like a fun time to be alive.

I didn't say it last night but I'm really excited that Snyder is the one directing. His visual style would allow for an amazing final battle or just battles that will certainly take place in a Justice League film.

I have no doubt he can handle a ensemble cast as well. I liked Watchmen but I know some didn't and but I couldn't honestly never figure out why. This might be off topic. People say they want faithful adaptions and by most accounts it seems like he delivered. I see more people that say that. So if that is true then I wonder if people simply didn't like the story as much as they claimed or thought they did once they finally saw it brought to life compared to just reading it. So instead of adjusting their belief in their enjoyment of the original and taking it down from whatever height they put it they just attack the live action film instead as if Snyder did something wrong. Is this possibly the case with some?

I hope they do realize that avengers was so successfull because many people cared about the characters through the standalone movies and so they didnt have to spend much screentime into character development. Just throwing in a lot of heroes, who are unknown for non-comic readers, seems like an awful idea - just like the Affleck as Batman and Gadot as WW

After seeing Man of Steel I just think Zack Synder should do a Dragonball Z movie

Awesome. Man of Steel is pretty much my favourite superhero movie ever so my hype level is through the roof for these sequels. I really don't get the hate for MOS. It was pure sex for me. Its been a really long time since a movie entertained me the way MOS did.

What about those who saw The Avengers without seeing the standalone movies but still enjoyed it? Could it be that Avengers' success was due to it being...a good, well-written blockbuster? That maybe its strength extends beyond Marvel shared universe marketing plan?

Not really. I didn't see the standalone movies and I'm sure as hell a lot of people didn't either.
People sometimes just want to see a mindless action flick.

It will be hard for them to follow Avengers but I like DC more than Marvel so I hope they pull it off. Serious / dark tone instead of goofy one liners.

ITT: People still argue that the main reason The Avengers was so successful is that it was proceeded by a single good movie and a bunch of shitty to mediocre movies.

And yet the first part of the movie is dedicated to assembling the team (with each team member getting his own scene where everything you need to know about him is said one way or another) and the second part of the movie is about team members interacting with each other on the S.H.I.E.L.D. ship.

I remember YEARS ago when marvel came out with a huge chart showing their yearly buildup ot the avengers and thinking that they were crazy and really overestimating the attentions span of the general public

Now, here we are, calling DC nuts for basically getting straight to the point and not taking years to build up to an all star movie.

This quote about Wonder Woman made me laugh:

"The right script".
Hollywood and the right script....ok.

They already passed on a Wonder Woman script written by the guy who later wrote the third highest grossing picture of all time, so I'm very curious to see what "the right script" ends up being.
*looks up list* Oh...Dark Knight been beaten ever since. Shit, Transformers is ahead of TDK? Well, at least it's wasn't Revenge of the Fallen. Man, nobody seems to really talk about highest grossing compared to 5 years ago. Crazy that it's becoming more routine now.

Won't a Fables movie just seem like a rip-off of Once Upon a Time even though it predates it? Nice and timely as always.
Is it look like the TallTales Game?

I like the idea of him directing the Superman and Justice League movies. I would've loved to see him do at least one Batman, but it probably wont happen if he does end up directing all these movies.
Making Dark Knight Returns a direct-to-video flick still seems like a crime.

None of the X-Men movies starting out had solo movies from the core members before they teamed up and those movies were pretty damn successful. Marvel is the only company who has done it like that so I'll never understand why their way is the only way people think it should be done.
That is the thing about team heroes: each character generally doesn't overshadow one another. They were created to be cogs for a single theme or idea. I suppose Wolverine would be an outlier, especially since he was birthed as a random individual. The problem here is that much of the characters here are not bit players but major players who have developed their own mythos/world/origins/. Hawkeye and Widow was able to get away with namely because...well, they're not big characters and often have a more muddled world, especially being interconnected of a behind-the-scenes force like SHIELD in the MCU; what they represent just isn't even close to the size of even 7 of the alleged heroes that are suppose to be in the Justice League flick.

Perlman = Slade/Deathstroke
Have you watched Arrow? Or you talking about Slade never taking off his mask?

Fine with me, its a better chance at Wonder Woman happening than the other way around.
I think the current mindset should be: do we want one under the current leadership?

Even then, all this went the stray the moment it was revealed it wasn't actually going to be a Batman/Superman movie so we pretty much have this mess of a thread (and fan reactions). They really should have just not bothered announcing their casting and made these characters a surprise when people actually saw the film.

That's kind part of the big narrative in these talks, isn't it? That the general public are morons.

Before it was "No one will want to follow all these Marvel movies but nerds. It's gonna be way too complicated for the general public!" Then, when that was proven wrong, it switched to "Why isn't DC doing what Marvel did? No one can understand these characters without multiple films worth of setup!" Seems Johnny and Suzie Q. Public can't win in the mind of forum dwellers.

Of course, it is possible that years of nigh-impenetrable comics continuity have blinded fans to the fact that these characters and concepts are relatively simple (not saying that in a derogatory way, mind you. Superheroes are simple by design; children have to be able to understand them after all) and are pretty easy to explain. Perhaps the movies are just revealing an innate accessibility in these stories that have been lost by the decades of reboots and tie-ins and soap operatic storytelling? I'd like to think so.

I must say though...where's my solo Batman movie in all of this? The best thing that could come out of Affleck casting as Wayne is if he's alowed to direct solo Bats movies.

I don't have much confidence in these movies but I'm waiting till media comes out before I start making any hyped opinions.

Also..I sure hope the audience doesn;t need separate movie to introduce single character, because if it does, then Guardians of Galaxy will flop badly.

I don't think the audience does. I think, generally, online superhero fans seem to be idiots. At least that's the impression I get from reading GAF. A lot of overreaction and drama. These movies tend to average over 2 hours. You can get a lot done in that time. Especially considering most of these movies tend to be pretty superficial.
