Warner Bros says that ‘SUICIDE SQUAD KILL THE JUSTICE LEAGUE’ "has fallen short of our expectations"

Gamers have been telling them "we don't want this, this isn't it" since it was first shown how many years ago.... Probably should have lowered your expectations a bit

Warner Brothers executives had to know this game was going to be a disappointment. There was no recovering from that abysmal first showing

In my imagination I'd like to think they kept lowering expectations internally and they still couldn't reach their targets so now they're the embodiment of this meme:

This whole project is honestly so baffling. Why do they think ANYONE would want to play this game the second the campaign is done?

Game exec- "but they're going to want to keep running the same levels over and over to get King Sharks "Fart Shooter" which has 0.0003% chance to drop from The Flash in ultra mega difficiulty, and has 0.03 percent chance to cause 3.57 points of poison damage every 16 seconds. And surely, they will drop $40 in our eshop to buy Harley's "Golden Dildo Bat" cosmetic. And they'll remain engaged because of our battle pass they'll happily purchase and grind through the same shit each month, so they can earn some "Joker chattering teeth toy" emotes.

But seriously- you have Warner Bros here sitting on Hogwarts Legacy as the biggest game of last year and now this for their big 2024 game, and likely the biggest bomb. This should clearly tell them.... Do people want a well-crafted, lengthy and very complete single player game full of curated content, or another vapid GaaS product, draped over an Eshop/battle pass, recycling the same 5-10 hours of shit content over and over (which they had to strong-arm a seriously talented developer of well-crafted single player games to waste a decade making this garbage because "we want our Fortnite".).

But, we've had failures of Anthem, Avengers, and now this. Who else wants to join the shit show? Which other legendary dev can be brought to its knees over this crap?

Because King Shark is queer, you bigot

I keep seeing PS5 ads for this, talking about betting on a lame horse, ironic given that Helldivers came out shortly afterwards and they aren't advertising that at all.

A lot of poor fools still bought this in droves in the US if NPD is anything to go by, hope it was worth it for them

They don't. The higher up you go the more you'll see how out of touch people are. It's the same with Sony Pictures/Avi Arad Spiderman Cinematic Universe.

I hope everyone is looking forward to Kraven after Madame Web and Morbius.

Arkham should have gone the way of Zelda, and continued to make high-quality single player games every few years, but without any care about the timeline baggage. Maybe the next one could have been a year-one Batman feel, then the next one could have followed Knightsend storyline, etc... just keep iterating on the gameplay ideas and take us to new Batman stories each time.

Instead, they ruined it.

The financial world is so detached from reality. This quote is from a shareholder's call discussing this period compared to February of last year. Guess what game released February of last year. Hogwart's Legacy.

We have the industry's best selling game of 2023 being compared to Suicide Squad. Were they sincerely expecting to somehow perform better than last year?

Well, they messed with Batman and found out I guess. But they don't have to worry, Batman doesn't kill, just severely injures. Some layoffs, maybe?

the people actually responsible will be safe, devs will get blame instead
The devs do deserve a good bit of blame for making a bad game and pushing things such as Sweet Baby in our faces. Taking a look at some of the most notable devs at rocksteady and you can see they were fully on board with many of those changes/pushes.

The game didn't fail only because of publisher meddling.

Whaaat? No wayyy! hooow?

Anyone who knows anything about games could have given them this info months before the game was released.

Looked lame day one.
The literal unveiling looked terrible to me. I passed on that day.

Coming from someone that bought all the Batman games. I have absolute zero interest in anything Suicide Squad.

Yes. I think it's about time people realize that publishers aren't the sole party to blame when garbage games happen, the devs need to be critized all the same.

WB will be like:
Hogwarts Legacy: Traditional single player game by lesser known dev --> Massive success
Suicide Squad: GaaS by well known and beloved studio --> Absolute failure

Conclusion:
Let's double down on GAAS

This is why I'm starting to hate the "BUSINESS" side of video games. It's making less and less sense.

The worst part is that it wasted a mega talented developer like Rocksteady's time for what felt like a decade just to follow an industry trend with subject matter that two feature film theatrical releases proved no one was interested in. Will forever be one of the most boneheaded moves by a gaming studio ive ever seen after coming off literally the best superhero game trilogy ever made and one of the best action games in general. Could of made a Superman game or whatever and build the Arkham universe or just make a new trilogy of something people care about. Annoying…

Seems to be a problem across multiple industries now. Execs and management will rather save face, push a message or chase unsustainable ideals over taking pragmatic steps to make money by way of making a solid product.

They went straight from making all the money all the time at all costs to flushing cash down the toilet, when there was in fact a significant win-win middleground all along where both the consumer could be better-satisfied while the business made a reliable profit.

Looking forward to what Sefton Hill and co. will bring to the table. The real silver lining is that they got the fuck out of there.

All the creative decisions are made by devs so it's them to be blamed. The suits know less than my grandma when she called videogames "nintendos". Rocksteady, the creators of the Arkham trilogy, no longer exists. They just need the official confirmation.

I am really hopeful this makes them rethink whatever dumb plans they had for Hogwarts Legacy sequel… it won't though, will it 😞.

I imagine they will keep pushing to catch that GaaS miracle game and f up an amazing platform for future Hogwarts games. Le sigh…

Everything I've seen of SS looks like "Avengers but dumber".

-Everybody's got a gun for some reason regardless of if it fits their character or not because the game needs it's gear system to monetize. But Avengers didn't had that problem. It never needed to give Hulk an Uzi for him to have gear.

-Avengers is the biggest superhero IP in the world (or at least was). SS is a C list team filled with D list villains that at some point WB started giving a very disproportionate amount of attention to. Why are we killing the JL instead of being the JL, DC's most marketable heroes?

-Avengers had a proper final boss and ending to it's campaign that still left the door open for story expansions. Whether it was good or not is up to debate but compared to SS literal reskin of an earlier boss and the most nothing non-bending of a game I've ever seen, it's a blessing.

And Avengers failed. It flopped and never recovered. So what chance did they even think SS had? Why is game the one they decided to go all sunk cost fallacy on while burying near finished and promising films?

"based on the success of suicide squad, we've decided to make Harry Potter 2 a GAAS, where you team up with 3 wizard friends, each from each of the 4 houses"

And Avengers failed.
Avengers failing means nothing, because it's not a similar situation, avengers failed wholly because they failed to deliver any meaningful content, there were constant massive delays because disney wanted to tie in with their delayed shows, and they even delayed the wakanda expansion for more than 6 months because boseman died. In the end they left players with nothing to play aside from rehashed events like red room and even canceled a roadmap because they couldn't deliver on 90% of their promised content, like patrol mode and drop in coop etc.; even the actual fans left because there was nothing to do, avengers failed because they entirely mangled post launch support and players left in droves.

A strong brand is not gonna save you from failure if you can't deliver long form content, disney/cd thought they could just coast along MCU success and got a harsh reality check.

The game is fun, but the entire concept was doomed with the public from the off, put it on gamepass/PS Plus and hope it finds it's audience.

You're free to feel however you wish, I just find it hard to believe these decisions originated with the creatives. Could be wrong.
Some publishers can be very pushy. I believe WB is beyond hands on and controlling. I think it's why so many people abandoned Rocksteady during SS:KTJL's development. Why did others stay? No clue, maybe because they loved the studio and their coworkers. Maybe they had belief in the project. It's honestly probably a little bit of everything.

I've been in that experience a few times, and it sucks.

I still think it's sad and funny that people here that were like, "Hey, this game has some things that were kinda fun, even if it doesn't last" are being labeled as shills, lmao. No one here ever said it was great, perfect, or a 10 as far I know. Some people like "bad" things, we've learned that over the years. But hey, if they find enjoyment, more power to them!

Yeah, & look how long the development for SS was. You think they're gonna be any more timely with content updates?
