Was neoGAF down or was it my imagination?

Lol gaf can't even handle one thread in ot.. good luck with E3..

For E3 GAF will have to close down the off topic side and every single thread that isn't a Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft/Ubisoft/EA main conference thread.

This website goes down more often than a cheap hooker during Mardi Gras

Prepare the IRC E3 chats for GAF's inevitable downfall in less than two months

will donate 0.25 so we can have stable servers come E3!

Pretty sure evilore says he updates the servers every time something like this happens..and then something like this happens again.

It was a tad disappointing.

I've used Neogaf a lot for breaking news in the past but it looks like I might have to find a back-up now.

Hopefully it gets sorted out as Gaffers are pretty amazing at aggregating all the different news sources.

Remember a month ago when Evilore said that he had just upgraded the servers and the site was equipped to handle massive spikes, and then the PS4 meeting happened three days later and everything crashed ?

Poor Evilore. I'm sure he's doing his best, but please, this CANNOT happen for E3.

It was down, when E3 or a PS4/nextbox event happens, twitter and using the hashtag #neogaf will be the backup plan.

We were hit by another severe DDoS attack a couple days ago and had to null route the IP for an hour or so, and today the webhost had some sort of critical power failure and needed to take some of the boxes offline to undergo maintenance for about two hours. We stayed up for most of it but without all the systems online the site went down for a while.

So there's the explanation. I'm pissed off any time we go down, but very little is within our control regarding the recent outages and we have a tremendous amount of server resources on hand. That's not the issue.

E3, well, I'll probably have Gromph temporarily expand the server array...double it, if necessary...for the conferences, just to increase the chances of success. Keep in mind that we're hitting quite a bit of growth and this is not a news site or blog with static content and media offloaded straightforwardly to a CDN. We're an extremely intensive database.

A DDoS attack? Just a random one? That's odd. has this happened before?

Thank you for the explanation.
