Post impressions.
First impression. It DLs too slow!

Did Steam change their DL colour?
My 1 Intelligence dude in football pads who smacks people with a pipe is my most effective combat unit by a mile.
Buncha highly-trained sharpshooters and they're handily outclassed by a savant wielding plumbing. Truly the Desert Rangers consist of the best and brightest of the post-apocalypse.

I only pledged 50 bucks. No beta for me. Can't help by being a bit annoyed by that.
Why? They made it clear during the KS which tiers did and did not include the beta and gave you over a year to bump your pledge up if you missed it during the initial KS run.
Because I am?
Well the other day I left my phone at home and that was a bit annoying. Not really anyone's fault other than my own, though...

It was clear as day, doesn't mean it isn't slightly annoying having people who payed $5 more getting into beta.
I will forget about it once my boxed copy arrives.![]()
But isnt the Beta just the full game with bugs?
now just leak the beta for us unwashed plebs![]()
..
... never gonna happen.
How about actually paying for the software you are interested in?
It's such a big mistake that they decided to go with a free cam. It's aggravating for the player and a lot more work for the artists and map designers. No one enjoys messing around with the camera. Should've went with a fixed isometric cam.
I know it's a beta but it's very underwhelming from what I watched. Some more observations:
- The UI sound effects are extremely aggravating holy crap, so many beeps and boops.
- The UI in general is very amateurish. Hopefully the overhaul will make it much much better.
- All the maps look empty.

Any more impressions from GAF?
Does the game feature different dialogue options for dumb characters?
I just built a character with 1 intelligence but I don't see anything at all like a Fallout 1+2 low intelligence path.
Awww
I'll pester them about it on their forums later.
We're not going to do different dialog for int 1-2 characters. That's more of a Fallout thing, it doesn't really make sense to us, with the keyboard-based system and with party members being able to step in and out of dialog.
I wonder if they'll charge $55 or whatever the beta cutoff is.
Honestly, it kind of annoys me when alpha/beta is restricted to higher tier backers. I suppose it might drive pledges during the crowdfunding campaign but it's absolutely a detriment to Steam's Early Access program and continued funding during development.
If there's going to be a public beta for your game, offer it to all backers. I think we're beyond the point where developers would lose sales because of an unfinished/buggy build. Developers are only hurting themselves with the restrictions.
Being a team of new recruits nothing is presented as a grand quest railroad to be followed right away. I can see the seeds of what probably becomes the main focus in the middle or end game but the clear answer isn't there right away.I really don't want to be spoiled so I don't plan on playing the beta much.
I have a question about the general tone of the story though. Is it something similar to older CRPGs? Find the water chip, explore the troubles in the south, etc?
Replaying Baldur's Gate at the moment and really love how the "main objective" isn't something that just looming over my head. It's a vague goal which won't have a clear answer for a long time. It makes exploration feel a lot more natural then in a lot of newer RPGs.
Don't! just wait like I'm doingI signed up. Dunno if I'll play it tho. I don't like betas cuz I like to go in fresh especially for a RPG.

I think you will like how it develops. It is not a setup like fallout 3(chase daddy), new vegas(revenge on benny), Dragon Age(DARKSPAWN!), Mass Effect(iminment space war), or Alpha Protocol(bin laden hunt).
Apparently they'll put the beta on Steam Early Access tomorrow: http://www.gamezone.com/news/2013/12/12/wasteland-2-comes-to-steam-early-access-tomorrow
To be fair, it actually is easier to hit someone with a pipe in real life than it is to hit them with a bullet.
If they aren't charging $55 then...well...that's pretty poor form.
