Watch Dogs Legion |OT| To London, for an Ubi Murray

I couldn't stand Watchdogs 2. Literally just play as emo teens killing hundreds and hundreds of people in San Francisco. Also, not really a fan of how they captured the Bay Area. Though I may have a different perspective as I was living in the Bay Area when it came out and I just didn't like what they did at all. Reinstalled it a month ago and my feelings hadn't changed.

Watchdogs 2 demo really turned off completely, too many icons on the map, too many missions that were poorly done because they felt they needed them integrated into the open world(this is just UBI being ubi though) the game really feels awful Open World games evolved a little but this WD2 feels like a very ancient dino.

I see that the NPC generator is trans friendly...

Supposed to be a deeply fascist anti immigrant post-Brexit state, yet has dudes walking around in dresses and law enforcement seemingly made up mostly of women with Jamaican accents.
Be glad it's not bad guys=white males vs everyone else. I wouldn't be surprised at that even nowadays.

im loving it so far , im just thinking im going do one mission and then somehwere i meat some cool person that is worth to recruit and then im starting doing mission for him.. and in middle of that i meat another .. and so on .. its just endless stuff for now.
and some situations are funny like you recruit someone he saying you do mission for him but couple secs later hes lying on the ground for some reason dead... i mean its so random sometime i like it .
cool electric cars too meaning of the future but some allready kinda excisting almost so not far away future.
and dont watch any tips or tricks, best way is to find everything for yourself. flying on cargo drone is amazing, then jumping from it doing mission and coming back to it , its still waiting there.. cool.
for now my game is to try to find more interesting wierd and cool people arround that i could recruit. its most fun for now as it was not done before in games. nothing like choking soldiers in MGS and carry them with ballons to your base.

New Nvidia driver improves the performance and gets rid of some crazy drops. Tommorows patch should further improve it.

The game itself:
Of course a map full of icons filled with stuff. Football, boxing etc. So far ok story, but not grabbing me that much yet.
I like these radio shows and podcasts, they are interesting and give a lot of background to the story and world.

Will play more when I can find more time hehe.

Well I impulse bought it and it’s way better than I expected gameplay wise. Building a strong team is quite addictive like some kind of SJW Pokemon.

It is a mess technically on X1X, however. The frame rate is all over and I’m getting tearing. The image quality looks really poor even for an open world game. Hopefully a patch will improve things or maybe the XSX version will run ok.

I don't see any performance thread, clearly the game has some sort of streaming problem since driving around brings issues no matter what.

His VRAM isn't being used. Its being allocated. Massive difference.

Even if it's being allocated, he is seeing a remarked difference in performance. Who knows what's going on there. If the allocation increased but the FPS stayed the same, then it wouldn't be a worry, but that allocation DOES mean something under the hood. I'm not going to allocate storage without using it at some point. There is no way I would have bought a 10G VRAM card for this generation with the amount of data these companies are going to pass through the graphics pipeline. 24G seems to just be enough. Crysis Remake takes up 16G of VRAM during Ultra settings. Much much more than "High" settings.

Do you see yourself playing for quite a while or will you get tired of the repetition/gimmick (recruiting) mechanic? Is there some depth there?

I've been hearing that people with 3080s are having trouble reaching 60fps at 1440p on ultra with raytracing on Ultra.

I'm satisfied with 1080p on ultra with ultra raytracing. It looks good anyway and I'll take the extra FPS any day.

edit: This is before the new driver.

Played around 4 hours so far. World is fantastic, with lots of details and interactions/stuff happening. Looking for new recruits is addicting. Randomly found a spy on the side of the road right after my friend said his had died lol. Haven't gotten to far into the main story, but it starts off surprisingly well. AI is extremely buggy, but it's often hilarious when things go wrong. I don't like the driving compared to WD2 though. Also no music on the go is lame. Combat feels about the same as WD2.

Even after the patch, 1440p on ultra with RTX isn't possible with a steady 60fps on a 3080. Raytracing on high and some added reahade AA, I'm usually fluctuating between the high 40s and high 50s.

I have maxed the FoV, so it's way more zoomed out when running. But it's very taxing on the CPU according to their setting description.

I've mentioned a few times that it seems odd that it's so rare to find a white person in London lol but I've never been there so who knows? I'm not saying that because I think it needs more white people it's just if you only looked at the NPC's you wouldn't think they were in the UK or any European country.

Do you have any benchmarks to show at which point the 3080 becomes VRAM limited in Crysis Remastered? Because I haven't seen it so far. The 3090 is a 4k card and the difference to the 3080 becomes bigger with higher resolutions. But it's not more than the normal difference from what I've seen, so nothing suggests a VRAM limitation on the 3080. At least from what I've seen. Again, can be wrong, that's why I'm asking.

His drops in this game were very likely due to the poor drivers, I had them as well and they're gone now after Nvidia released the new driver.

It’s more in depth than I thought it would be but I can see it getting old eventually if I’m being honest.

I mean I enjoyed the first two games for what it’s worth when I know a lot of people didn’t and this is more of the same. The recruiting stuff is very well done but if you hated the first two it’s not enough to change anyone’s mind on this one I’d say.

So far I kinda miss the "gang" from WD2 with their personalities hanging out together.
Hope that this will pick up regarding character development.

Apart from the terrible PC performance, I am actually enjoying the game. I love London and I consider it my second home!

They got the London slang right but they’re always overdoing it. Voice acting is sometimes good and sometimes laughable

The decision to use voice modulation isn’t actually good. Made the voice acting sound terrible half of the time

I think Anvil is on its knees. Origins was probably the peak. But in Odyssey I thought it was creaking. Interestingly enough, Massive's snowdrop engine also has the common problem of texture streaming as well. I'm curious what Ubi are going to do because the incremental updates don't look like they are keeping up with the tech any more.

But this is what's forcing me to at least wait until the PS5 gets here to hopefully use the excess power to alleviate some of these issues I'm reading about.

Game Ready Drivers

I played yesterday without drivers and it was a disaster. Installed this morning and now I'm cruising around night London and it plays well. Graphics are great with maxed out RTX effects.

It's a different engine, at least officially. It's called Disrupt. But they may share codes. My plan is also to stop playing and wait for the PS5. Hopefully there it can show its real beauty. I just hope I can get one this year.

I expect it to be further improved by today's patch from Ubi as it specifically targets to improve performance on RTX cards.

Is it? My bad, I just assumed it would be in Anvil - it's still strange how they all seem to have that streaming issue though. I wonder if they are all just forks at this point and the root code has the issue?

Yeah, maybe. I feel like they just needed a couple of months more development time. Or too much people were hired based on diversity and not talent...
Anyway I hope the next AC (and other Ubi games) after Valhalla will get a similar engine upgrade like Unity and Origins.

Yep, me. Before the new driver DLSS was giving 45fps at 1440p at ANY graphic setting.

After the driver, if I set the game to run on DX11, medium settings, DLSS and RT off, i ALMOST get a stable 60fps, driving gives me mid 40s....

This is just Ubisoft being shit again. There is a big performance update that is supposed to come out today though.

Sadly still not above 40 FPS in benchmark. Could it be my connection? I don't have issues in other games.
FPS wouldn't be decided by your connection. It probably just runs poorly on the setup they have in their data center.

If that is the case then maybe they'll fix it. It's definitely not on your end.

I'm really enjoying it, more than i thought I might tbh. But good lord does it need some sort of barbers/character customisation thing. Not everyone in London has to look like a hipster/man-hating feminazi Ubisoft. I haven't found a single female character with a decent looking hairstyle.

I was borned, raised, lived, worked and still visit London (Mum lives not too far from Camden). My take on my limited playtime is they have taken key landmarks and the areas around them and linked them with not quite the route one would go in London. I know the route from Westminster to Camden off by heart and, whilst I could get to Camden ok in WD:L, there were some odd roads and buildings on the way. So they have linked key places with a range of different routes - so much so I was in a road I didn't recognise and next road was Camden High Street. The best analogy I can give is when you have a dream about a place you know really well but things just don't align/match/exist - so the same but like a different dimension. As for how London 'Feels' - yea it's my hometown - Camden has always been trashy/grim but it really needs a clean up in WD:L - so much rubbish - I used to work in the office building overlooking the lock (they have nailed Camden pretty well all things). Just started this game but will enjoy visiting othe key areas I know.

Can't believe how bad the game looks on the One X. Puts me off to waiting until I get my Series X.

As for the game, the city feels more lifeless than Watch Dogs 2, plus the map seems overly small and at times doesn't even feel like London to me which is sad given I've lived here my whole life.

Even our dystopias are representative and multicultural apparently?
