Edit: oh you actually opened the file yourself? well that settles it then.
how does one open a dat/fat pair btw?
(Not that I care, but just so I can get it clear in my mind...)
So if it's not a mod, then why is there a downloadable patch (or file of some sort) rather than just instructions on how to change the configurations? I thought things were being added back to the game that were in the source code, but not available through the game or a simple .ini change.
I think I really like this guy and his attitude, and wish the conversation were focused more around the mod or tweak or whatever the fuck it is (performance on various rigs, comparison shots/webms in different settings, ideal in-game settings, etc.) and less about exactly how many puppies ubisoft has murdered.

0.7b does have DOF with Far camera
Just played .7 for about 30 minutes.
Not only does it look better, but it performs better as well!
Pretty much got rid of all the stuttering. Running max settings 1080p with 2x TXAA with a 780Ti.

I'm testing it now.
Yep, noticed it. Guess we have to wait for a proper fix.Does not work.
How is this even possible?
How is this even possible?
So if I modify the cfg to render at say 3890x2160 or if I modified the cfg to create a hotkey that hides the hud on press did I create a mod? D:
Fix is out guys. Enjoy!TheWorse said:My modification is not based on anyones work, only ubisoft's default files.
I don't claim performance improvements, I just EXPERIENCED them. Which doesn't mean It is the same for everyone so If you don't have any peformance improvements and it works "worse" for you, post your specs.
Uploaded the files to mediafire with the fix included, reposted mega upload with the fix included, normal camera dof now Working.

Also I seem to have missed the conversation regarding this file, but isn't this just defining the type of weather depending on the zone/area it is? It makes sense they would make their own separate areas for an E3 demo to me. I can't see stuff like "Warehouse" or "Jazzbar" being graphical settings... The others sound like weather presets for the open areas in general. Come on, some of the parameters are floats as well, they're not boolean flags.
Sorry, didn't mean to say I opened the file; had two tabs open to reply, copy and pasting my responses in both. Meant to say I redownloaded WD to try and open the .dat file, but I did find the contents of said file in it's entirety.
Yep, this sure is a Watch Dogs thread.
I'm not indifferent to all that cumulative frustration, and I'm the first to proffer how much I loathe uplay, but I also personally don't really care about it while on the other hand I am really really interested in this... file, or whatever I should call it to avoid a secondary semantics mudfight. That's fair enough, though this attitude comes as the culmination of many times in which Ubi acted all shady about their PC efforts, from the bullshit DRM, to the delayed PC releases, to the broken UPlay, to the weird ports.
I guess people have a sore spot, accumulated by all those past events.
In this sense, that (though irrelevant) comment in the Shader.dat, was fantastically ironic.
Though, personally, i found the Splinter Cell Blacklist port to be just fantastic, myself, so i can't complain too much.
"Original graphical effects found in Watch_Dogs and re-enabled by modder" would be more in line with the truth.
DF on (.7 fixed)

awesome shots, thank you. It's totally getting there... I think I tiny bit more toning down the DOF and a little less bloom on the headlights and he can move on to other effectsDF on (.7 fixed)
DF off
(edit) One with DF on and without the carlight in the way.
Someone please tell me that's not real.
Someone please tell me that's not real.
Ignore Neogaf. if Durantes Dark Souls DSFix is considered a mod, then so is this.
So IGN have started to report on this, citing neogaf and theworse.
Heres the title and link:
Watch Dogs Modders find way to activate disabled PC Settings
They have also reached out to Ubisoft for a comment.
Lol dude, I'm Cortana btw xDLol.
Not that I want to downplay TheWorse's contributions as they are great but... lol.

Ignore the poor framerate, my poor rig didn't take well to my recording while I played. (I was getting 30ish FPS when not recording).
You can see the DoF and (over)bloom in action.
