Waypoint Thread: Vice City Stories

Were people expecting RE7 to be excellent? I didn't follow the game and Patrick's impressions plus the review thread took me by surprise. Nice to hear the vr works

I thought the game always looked pretty good but there seems to be a lot of people surprised by how good it is. Can't really blame them after how rough RE6 was. Patrick's impressions have me really interested. I don't think I could handle it in VR though, I thought the demo was creepy as hell just on my TV

I must have played the demo 10 times before I tried it in VR and I was thoroughly creeped out when I did. I thought it was terrifying even though I already knew everything that was happening.

Yeah that RE7 demo spooked me in a way Resident Evil hasn't managed to do in a while. That's when I knew Capcom had something good on their hands.

The RE7 sound design is pretty exceptional. I decided to try the demo out in PSVR, and once I put the headset on and headphones and loaded into the game, I sat there for about 30 seconds looking around and listening, and then decided to turn off my PS4. 100% nope.

I really don't know when I'll get to RE7. I'm glad it generally seems to have gone over well, but my list of games is stacked too high atm.

Maybe when things die down and it feels less of an event, I guess? It feels like a thing I want to start on a Saturday at 8 o'clock. Not come home and tell myself I'm gonna power through it because that's the new hotness of the next couple weeks.

Like weirdly the more action-heavy games make me feel like I want to play those immediately (ignoring how 6 was and always will be garbage)

I enjoyed the video game impressions on the cast a lot!

Pretty lopsided not getting to Danielle or the question bucket, which I'm sure they realize, but I appreciated the game talk, even with it being as monologuey as ever.

Edit: Not a statement of preference of game talk over other talk, I just thought it was good stuff.

I finally got around to listening to the episode and them trying to place geralt of rivia on the political spectrum was excellent

What's the email address for the podcast? I've never sent an email before but I wanted to respond to this.

Oh cool a new Waypoint radio can't wait to -

@appleciderwitch joined us for episode 35 of Waypoint Radio, where we talked about 'Overwatch' fan fiction, a lot: bit.ly/2kNGmpO

I'm good, thanks

On another note, this interview with the guy who made the Na'vi language in Avatar about creating convincing sounding fake languages is pretty cool https://waypoint.vice.com/en_us/art...cing-constructed-language-for-your-video-game

Annoying thought: this was the first time in a while I've listened to a gaming podcast conversation primarily driven by two ladies

It was good

That was good, internet

There are a few. There should be a whole lot fucking more, but at least there are a few.

Off the top of my head, there's Axe of the Blood God, if you want to hear people talk about JRPGs and occasionally Gundam.

Totally channeling Patrick right now.

Edit: someone link me a fic of Symmetra and Pharah holding hands walking in the park.

I need it. For reasons.

Fuck it man, I think I am done.

Its disappointing for a gaming discussion about politics and serious issues to have episodes about who is fucking who in Overwatch (and Danielle literally said the sentence X is fucking x)

In addition to that, the fanfic and the tumblr like content the podcast have from time to time is just groan worthy. Too bad, because I really love the views Patrick and Austin have, but its hard to ignore these issues I am having with the podcast as a whole.

I know me quitting is nothing since they seem to have their audience, so good luck Scoops and Austin on your new project.

Yeah I couldn't do it today..... hopefully it was just their anxiety about recent events which is why this show was, what it was today... but yeah I'm actually fine with the ultra leftist stuff, but a whole episode about overwatch fanfic was too much for me.
Better luck next episode

Yeah I haven't even listened to it, but if they want to do fan fiction, they should probably do a separate podcast like Giant Bomb does for F1 and (occasionally) wrestling.

Do what you want, obviously, but why not just skip the episodes that you're not interested in? You can usually get a sense of what's going to be talked about from the description. Beyond that, you can just skip the rest of an episode if you're not happy with the beginning.

Again, don't listen if you don't want to, but it seems like you at least get some utility out of it. I see a lot of people on here talk about being "done" with podcast X or Y after a few bad episodes, but it's so easy to just skip an episode and try again next time.

Eh it's not even fan fic really its just shipping I suppose, but I had enough 20 minutes in when they basically had not played any new games so I knew they were just gonna bs the rest of the episode and I'm not an overwatch shipper so it had no appeal to me

That was, by far, my favorite episode of the podcast yet. I thought it was a funny and enlightening look into a whole world that I didn't know much about.

Sneering at tumblr culture is boring, my dudes.
I'm actually an active tumblr'er and I'm fine with an aside or rant about hot robot on robot action, but if there's a guest I'm unfamiliar with and they're talking about shipping like its the topic of the week... I draw the line

Yo, they took my question this week about journalistic sources! First time that's happened for me in a podcast, so bizarre hearing that in the middle of my work shift.

The Overwatch shipping and fan fic isn't my thing, but I've also never, ever heard that stuff taken seriously on a podcast. One episode with that discussion really isn't too bad considering how many people seem to be passionate about it. I thought it was kind of refreshing to not immediately have the shipping stuff cast out as a joke.

I was kind of annoyed that Patrick's take on the Yakuza series is that he never knew it was so wacky and zany and that's why people like it. The light-hearted nature of the substories is fun but for me the draw of these games are the usually quite serious main plotlines. Even Dead Souls had a pretty good story amongst some sub-par gameplay.

I guess I'll just be glad that games journalists are actually giving one a chance.

Eh, I do end up skipping a lot of main plot cutscenes, because they already got to the point half an hour ago and now it's needless posturing. I also have to go talk to the dominatrix and impress a girl with my Outrun skills. The substories are the main draws for me.

I like it all really, I admire a game willing to spend super long cutscenes discussing politics and land deals and usually resolve conflicts by men tearing off their jackets to reveal giant tattoos while crying.

Maybe skipping half the podcast because I didn't feel like listening to a discussion of which fictional characters bang made me cranky.

Oh yeah, you better believe that when suits are being ripped off before battle, I'm glued to the preceding cutscene.
