We're at the point where "m'lady" jokes, etc are played out and not funny

I see Fedoras all the time. Mostly at the mall.

I generally hate everyone so they don't get anymore of my ire than the people fully decked out in affliction gear or hipsters or guys wearing flat brimmed hats.

Well if they claim that their motivation is to make fun of misogynists specifically then that suggests to me that they are doing it in the name of feminism, at least implicitly, which is lame reasoning because, as I said, it's not a good way of combating misogyny.

First, I think you're reading way too much into my comment. It's simply well-deserved ridicule.

Second, one can't go out and save all the fedoras from their ignorance and some simply aren't worth the time you'd spend trying to do so.

Like what? Just curious.

Shit..I'm late lol.

Well, race, gender, sexual orientation are three things off the top of my head.
As in, be nice, don't be a bigot. Common sense, really.

Yet for some reason, other comments seem to be fair game such as those regarding body size/type, fashion choices.

Fedoras are basically the new hipster or furry or brony or hippie. People will eventually tire of the meme and move onto another thing. Not that it will dissapear out of common knowledge, but the commonness will make people look for some new unique one.

Nope, the only time I saw a guy in a fedora in the last year or so was Danny Howells when he was playing in Brooklyn on Friday night. And that guy is one of the greatest DJs ever, he can wear whatever the fuck he wants.

My favourite part of that thread was the guy equating wearing a fedora with dressing like a Klansman, shit was off the hook.
That was you. :)
What's 'protected' on Gaf? Common sense? Common decency?
Isn't it common decency not to make fun of people?

Anyway, Op's right, and not just about the m'lady junk, GAF is where 4chan and reddit meme's go to die. Only they never seem to die, they just get run into the ground like the people who use them just discovered the internet.

Anything about dating a person who sleeps around will attract a few bans. Or anything to do with white knights and said persons.

Heck, DatingGAF is basically a ban zone in itself.

Isn't it common decency not to make fun of people?.

That all depends on what we're making fun of them for. A complete and utter lack of self awareness combined with a judgemental attitude is valid grounds for ridicule.

I agree. I feel like there are appropriate times to call someone a "fedora wearer" or whatever, and I think the phrase should be something that can fit in your lexicon without being overused. That being said all of the points about why "nice guys" or "fedora wearers" are bad are extremely overdone and posting any more about it is beating an extremely dead horse. There's so much mean spirited circlejerking about it that it's ridiculous. I'm not defending the fedora wearers or "nice guys" either; they're terrible and fedoras themselves look awful, but it's just way overdone and has been for too long.

But it's a bizarre type of ridicule because the m'lady meme is a combination of all sorts of geek stereotypes and I don't think most people even associate it with misogyny. I think it would be less convuluted to just call someone out on their misogyny rather than referencing a meme.

I was pretty disappointed when a thread dedicated to mocking the "m'lady fedora wearer" popped up here - the gang mocked and teased, and then it turns out the picture originated from NeoGAF (the person was a GAFFER who posted the picture voluntarily), appeared on Reddit (photoshopped) and then eventually found its way back here. It was completely unprovoked, just a "point and laugh" thread that made it like 10+ pages before getting locked (and the user in the picture actually posting in the thread).

It felt really out of place here...
Wow that's fucked up, I was thinking about how I felt bad for the guy in the picture a few days ago, and now I'm finding out he's a fellow gaffer, damn.
