Wesley Snipes gets 3 years in Jail

I think 3 years for this is a bit overkill.

Side note, what the hell happened to his career?
IMO he made a lot of good, or at least entertaining, movies...then Blade 3 happened....and bam!

The fine is sufficient enough punishment for tax evasion. But... 3 year jail sentence? WTF? I would've expected 6 months to a year at most.

He's been doing straight to dvd/foreign movies for years, I don't think he's all that wealthy anymore...

Salary
Blade: Trinity (2004) $13,000,000
Murder at 1600 (1997) $10,000,000
The Fan (1996) $7,000,000
Money Train (1995) $5,500,000
Drop Zone (1994) $7,000,000

Since he obviously doesn't pay much taxes, I'm sure he's pretty wealthy.

You'd be surprised at how quickly a rich person can go through money.

Love how you all say it's because hes black, even tho he did break the law. Basically you guys want it so, if you're black, you get off with nothing, but if you're white, YOU GET THE DEATH PENALTY. Get real people, he broke the law, stop feeling bad for the millionaire, just because hes black.

He was given the maximum allowable punishment. I'm sure the judge sentanced him with reluctance that the death penalty wasn't on the table.

snipes and murphy used to make great movies back in the days, but nowadays not so much. eddie's doing shit; snipes won't be doing shit for a while now, lol.

Serves him right for breaking the law, according to this article snipes was trying to defraud the government for a long time, almost a decade of trying to skip taxes.

In total, say prosecutors, Snipes aimed to defraud the US Treasury of $41 million through a campaign in which he concealed millions offshore, falsely applied for tax refunds and bombarded the Internal Revenue Service with frivolous correspondence that threatened government employees, railed about extortion and used twisted legal interpretations to back his claim that taxation was unlawful.

People here always bitch about famous/rich people getting off easy.

Now that a famous/rich person actually gets what they had coming to them, you bitch about THAT.

What the hell is wrong with you people.

Yeah everone knows that celebrities like Paris Hilton get fair sentences.

Hmm.

On one hand I am happy to see a rich and famous person have to pay for their crimes just like anyone else would.

On the other hand, that might not have happened here. I don't like the idea of doing the extreme just to 'send a message'....because I have no idea who that message is going to.

Most regular folk don't get involved in large scale tax evasion (offshore accounts and such).

And those that do probably couldn't give two shits about what happened to Wesley Snipes or what it means to them.

So this all seems kind of pointless.

Most of their stupidity is typically limited to local jurisdiction. Breaking federal laws puts you into an entirely different tier of merciless judgment.

Actually I think he does it because they're cheaper to produce for a larger market.

This is Wesley Snipes we're talking about, not Paris Hilton.

Holy shit he got paid way too much for blade 3.

Dont worry guys. He'll be going to the cushy Federal prison, not the county jail. He'll have room service, HDTV, tennis courts, blah blah blah

3 year out of a maximum sentence of 3 years...

always bet on black... to get the harshest punishment from the legal system...

that's why i try to not commit crimes, i know i will get the worst.

sucks for him, but he should have paid his taxes!

Oh well, no more shitty direct to dvd movies from him for awhile.

That does suck though. Seeing a celeb go to jail for so long seems rare. I thought Kiefer going away for a couple months was a big deal.

He was pretty good in that movie with Jason Statham, Chaos Theory I think it was called.

Anyway, I hope he appeals, and beats this shit. Damn justice system couldn't let go.

He was acquitted of those charges. What he was sentenced to 3 years for was failing to file Federal Income tax returns.

what i dont get is that there is no way that he filed his taxes himself.. he most certainly got an accountant to file his shit.. so.. why doesnt the accountant get in trouble for this instead?
