Fight the power!

i don't see why this is drawing so much ire. dodging taxes is a serious offense

3 years is arguably a bit excessive. but that's just how it is. and keep in mind it's unlikely he'll serve the full term

3 years might sound excessive at first blush, but the penal system exists also as a deterrent, and way too many celebrities do coast on relatively easy rides. Then again, this is a federal matter, and it involves the IRS. You just don't fuck with the IRS. Besides, the dudes actually managing his money and advising him on financial matters got reamed with what, 4 and 10 years?

His is not a slap on the wrist, but at least he got acquitted on the more severe charges that laid his accountant/advisers low. Also, I imagine that with good behavior, he'll wind up serving less than that maximum.

He will be out with good behavior in 1.5 years if i understand the american system correctly, so i hope he pays his taxes and keeps his shit together in prison.

and give someone who was behind one of the biggest federal money scandals ever 24 months..even though he ruined thousands and thousands of peoples' lives...
Uh, Skilling got 24 YEARS...

hahah good point. :/

24 years - 4 months..

He's already appealing though and has a narrow shot at making it...

Prior to the trial even beginning, attorneys for Skilling requested that the notes taken from FBI agents on the interviews with Andrew Fastow be turned over and early after a judge ordered that the notes be turned over to the defence, a number of inconsistancies were discovered.

On April 3 2008, Skilling's defense attorney, Daniel M. Petrocelli, argued with government's prosecutors that Skilling's trial and in the end the conviction itself was based on honest services theory which he said did not apply to Jeffrey Skilling. This argument was based on the fact that, even though Skilling committed illegal financial manoeuvres, he did so in order to save the company and did not profit from it. This in turn could lead to all of his convictions being overturned; however, the chances are very narrow.

Experts believe Skilling's best chance lies in citing a parallel appeals court decision two years ago that threw out guilty verdicts on three Merrill Lynch bankers accused of helping Enron to inflate profits.

Thing that sucks about Enron is that he's the only scapegoat :(

They could exhume him and put the corpse in jail for a few years as a symbolic gesture.

:lol :lol now that is justice

Dude paid $15mil to the fucking treasury and he is STILL sentenced? What the fuck?

While yes he should have to pay his taxes I'm kinda saddened how it seems like he's gotten a longer sentence than some child molesters. Remember this Americans, the legal systems cares more about money than it does crime, so if you're going to be a criminal make sure you don't do a crime that costs someone money.

I think the best way to deal with financial fraud is to make them pay back like 4 times whatever they stole/didn't pay. No point in jailing them where they can't work.

How crazy is high bracket in taxes? I know for wisconsin you take out 32 percent immediately from large winnings for taxes. Dont tell me its that every year with whatever you have left over, no it could not possibly be that bad.

It's not because he's black, it's because he's a lower tier actor they wanted to make an example out of. I am almost certain they wouldn't be able to pin this shit on someone like Denzel or that guy who played Benson.

Almost like Wesley strayed too far from the pack and they pounced on him when the others weren't looking.

these are misdemeanors, he has no previous criminal record. The government still gets their money owed plus interest, plus penalties. There's no reason to imprison him, no matter what you think of him.
