What are some “essentials” you would have for walking around a convention? (ideally that fit in a fanny-pack?)

So I was listening to a podcast, and they were going over the stuff they take with them to conventions. It got me thinking about how much it’s a great idea, but I kind of despise carrying around a backpack all day. So thinking about what all you could condense to “the essentials” that could maybe fit in like a fanny pack?

Someone in the podcast mentioned a spray deodorant, which also makes it easy to share if needed, which honestly seems like a great idea. Maybe a granola bar, and a phone charger seems like a good pick. What else?

Also, just to give credit to the podcast itself, it’s a new MinnMax show. It’s aimed primarily towards women (of which I am definitely not), but pretty interesting conversations imo, great background sound:

Having been to some gaming events through the years, I wonder if any of the deodorant brands would like to send a duffman type character, with a belt of deodorant around their waist, to events like this?

Honestly the only one I’ve been to so far was Magfest last year, so it was a pretty good experience overall. But I’ve certainly heard other events aren’t always so kind to the senses.

I’d actually be tempted to take some earbuds as well, just to sort of decompress a bit of the crowds get too big (I still struggle a bit with anxiety).

I have a retard friend who I make carry a backpack and then I dump all my stuff in there.
Still no chance in hell I’ll go to some stink ass nerd convention.

Who the fuck wears a fanny pack other than fat Americans walking around Europe? Get yourself a sling over small backpack so you don't look like an absolute dork, but I imagine all you would need would be:

  1. Spare battery bank for charging phone cause you've used it all up taking 8k videos of hot cosplay chicks
  2. Refillable bottle of water, to keep it cool longer cause of the humidity buildup from 8billion people in a small hall
  3. Hand/arse wipes cause nerds are fucking sweaty rank cunts that contaminate all they touch and would no doubt use up all the bog roll wanking themselves silly in the toilets
  4. Some protein bars for a quick snack whilst waiting in enormous queues to get overpriced food
  5. Sunglasses so you can not only look 80's cool but can stare without getting into shit
  6. A large stick so you can go all Indian policeman when the crowds get too much and you need to clear a way back out to civilisation

A small sling bag is definitely the way to go. Some bottles of water, a few spiked bottles of soda, some munchies....all of that frees you from the long lines and high prices of concessions. Plus if you buy anything from a vendor it's nice to not have to carry a bag. For a whole day away from your car/room it's nice to have everything on your back instead on in your hands.

If it's mostly just personal items, then a fanny bag for your wallet and keys, maybe a small power bank for your phone. I've never had an issue with pickpockets at a con but that would be my biggest fear, so I don't put stuff in back pockets. One of those small front carry bags like this one from Concept Collective is maybe SLIGHLTY more stylish than a traditional fanny bag, but can also be covered by a light jacket and should be able to hold everything shy of bottles of water.

Mate you’d look like a proper tosser walking around with one of them.
That’s what the gen z kiddies wear to stash their red bull from the local Indian owned establishment.

Versus a fanny pack? BOTH scream "middle aged dad" and/or "I have a gun!" but at least the sling bag is off your waist and could be covered.

Fanny pack today is for diabetics on a pump or guys too fat to properly conceal carry.

Buuuuuuuuuuuut when I'm at a place like disney world where I'm getting in and out of tight spaces, lots of folks brushing up against me, and kind of an overstimulating environment in general, moving everything out of pockets into one easily managed small pack is very nice. And a discrete fanny/body bag can often get through check lines without having to be specifically searched like a backback.

Guess you could go this direction as well....:p

That's what a lot of teens wear since previous gens.

Anyway, they're handy. But prefer a backpack since you'll get freebies to stash in there too.

Carrying wise, water, hand sanitizer, wipes, tissues, maybe hand cream, gum... this sounds more like I'm ready for something else. A portable fan. Charger. So yeah, fanny pack is not enough.

Just the essentials. Hand sanitizer, battery charger for phone, iodine tablets, flint, 9mm ammunition, spare butt plug, chewing tobacco, silly string, and magnum condoms. Like I said, essentials.

Thanks for the memories of being 6 at Disney World wearing a fanny pack and donald duck baseball cap where the bill was a giant plastic duck bill. Truly, I was riding high in my prime.

I got one of these at goodwill years ago. I ended up using it for these exact situations to carry a few supplies without the full fledged backpack. There might be a better solution out there, but a fanny pack isn't it.
