What are you expecting the melee combat to be like in Intergalactic?

It doesn’t need to be complicated to be fun. I wouldn’t mind melee combat being similar to SIFU, if there are martial arts involved.

My hope is that Neil was inspired by his playthrough of elden ring to design good open world and combat design but we will see.

The main thing I noticed in the little snippet of footage is the weapon wielded by the player character is very similar to that wielded by the robot enemy, so it looks likely that you'll upgrade your weapons based on stuff found in the world/used by enemies. Unclear what that says in regard to the side-arm shown in the cinematic part.

I'd assume the game uses a mix of regular and alien weaponry, both melee and ranged.

I think the weapon transforms depending on the music you hear, but i don't think the gameplay will be something special. Most likely the usual dodge/parry, light attack, heavy attack basics or another freeflower. Or maybe there will be some rythm combat like in that Microsoft game from last year.

I guess this is the big question really about intergalactic. Except baldness and things. I'm replaying UC4 And Abbie was clearly a development of Joel in TLoU2 but I think there is a question mark over a full melee game produced by ND. Difficult to draw too many conclusions with an actual sword as most of the melee weaponry we've seen in their current games are complements to hand-to-hand or two use pipes etc.

Here are we are with current day ND:

Im expecting it will be similar to Jedi Fallen Order mixed with TLOU environmental interaction in combat. It’ll obviously have good animations and likely be quite brutal.
But yeah pretty sure the combat will be pretty good.

With Sci-fi being the focus I don't particularly care for melee beyond some minor stuff to compliment the (hopefully) excellent shooting.

Not familiar with uncharted, or last of us’ “combat systems” when playing it’s either melee with R1, square or triangle.

Yeah! They also show a sniper scope on her wall. So I'm guessing more shooting mechanics from their previous games would make it in than they are leading us to believe.

But I'm a little shocked that they still have placeholder "Lorem Ipsum" text next to it. May be that's why they are hiring a writer!

Uncharted 4 and The Last of Us Part II

- In Uncharted 4, The rope mechanic can be used in combat and Nate can shoot his gun while running in any direction (In TLOU 2 you can only move forward slowly). This is not possible in The Last of Us Part II.

- The melee hand-to-hand combat is similar in both games, but Ellie and Abby have a wide variety of melee weapons in the game that makes the melee combat more robust.

- The Last of Us Part II has a prone mechanic that allows you to shoot while on the ground and crawl under.

- There's also the dodge mechanic in The Last of Us Part II.

Intergalactic

A few things stood out to me in this trailer.

She has an easily accessible gun and a pouch on her back.

This makes me believe the gun combat will be more similar to Uncharted 4 which allows you to shoot while running and freely throw items at your enemies.

I thought this was very telling.

The enemy completely misses the attack. This doesn't happen in The Last of Us Part II or Uncharted 4 because the character's melee attacks are designed to connect with the player/enemy.

For example, if you're playing No Return, you cannot dodge an enemy's attack with Tommy or Joel by just walking around the enemy because the attack will have this magnet effect and then make contact with you. This happens when you're using melee attacks on enemies as well. The attack will only whiff if you press the dodge button at the right time.

It's been said that Neil was inspired by Elden Ring and Breath of the Wild and it looks like he was inspired by the combat as well.

If this running animation is a glimpse of the combat then I think this game will be mostly focused on Melee combat.

Instead of rolling to dodge attacks from enemies, I think it will feature a dodge button for specific attacks and the ability to sidestep or run past enemies to dodge attacks.

I also think this jumping mechanic will be featured in combat that allows you to jump off enemies or objects, and just like in The Last of Us Part II, there will be "kill" animations.

I expect the combat to be very energetic and fast paced with lots of movement around the space. I think the short clip at the end reflects that.

Basically Uncharted 4, but more difficult to hold down spots since it's a more melee based game, thus resulting in movement being more necessary. Uncharted 4 like movement with God of War like feedback and we're looking at something very juicy indeed, that's not even mentioning all the theories about music playing into the combat etc.
