Awesome, awesome punk album. Flows between thrash and more classic styled punk seamlessly, and Agent M is a damn fine singer who can pull it off.

Tracks of note: Headlights on a Grenade, Roundabout, Swimming Through Molasses.

This needs more love. That is all.

Lau Nau. Finnish freak-folk.

I am listening to a bit of her now. Is there any other stuff sort of like this, a folky/new/trippy sound? I guess this is called freak folk, but what about four tet. One of their tracks has what sounds like banjo plucking and hymns. Something thats a bit like the Cold Mountain soundtrack, but with modern.. twists and oddities?

There's a lot of really good freak-folk coming out of the Bay Area. You can probably find The Golden Apples of the Sun compilation Devendra Banhart did last summer on soulseek. It has 20 tracks of all the more popular musicians from that scene.

I just started getting into the Finnish stuff recently, don't know too much about it yet. Lau Nau, Islaja, and Uton are good.

Mylo's debut album which came out last year, one of the best albums of last year to. awesome stuff.

Freestlyers are also indeed very aweosme. They also put on a very good live show to.

Other than that I've been listening to the With Teeth leak a bit.

Hmm... Mylo, is that as in the funky house artist? Drop The Pressure and Muscle Car are good songs... Actually that guy posted on a friend's livejournal (since my friend does a radio show for house music)

Beck - Guero
HELL YEAH is perhaps my favorite song of the year. This album is genius in production and execution. Did I mention the songs rock too? Yeah. +1 Beck. Sea Change I really didn't care for too much; this is quite a comeback. Beck is an extremely gifted, diverse artist. Girl, Missing, and Earthquake Weather are my other favs. This album just makes you feel happy. Beck is my boy.

Fiona Apple - Extraordinary Machine
So much talent. I can't believe Sony says this isn't "commerical" enough - I'll stop complaining right there or else I could go on forever. Fiona Apple has the most unique, beautiful voice I've heard in a female artist, and that alone should allow her to put out whatever she wants. Seriously. "Oh Sailor" has to be one of the best songs I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. "Oh Well" isn't far behind. A true artist with talent that NO ONE can copy. If Fiona Apple made music back in the day when everyone listened to Carly Simon... they'd be listening to Fiona instead.

Gorillaz - Demon Days
"Feel Good, Inc." That's all I gotta say. If it's released as a single this summer it's gonna burn up the charts.

Garbage - Bleed Like Me
It's no Version 2.0, but it has some good songs here and there. The band's best days are clearly behind them. The lyrics in a lot of the songs (especially their first single) are really, really bad.

Nine Inch Nails - With Teeth
Not a longtime, hardcore NIN fan but I'm very fond of the album's production - and Trent's ability to couple ambient noise with goth rock and not have it sound tacky.

Eels - Blinking Lights and Other Revelations
This band is fuckin' weird. But you gotta love the song titles... "Suicide Life," "Going Fetal," "Understanding Salesmen," "Theme for a Pretty Girl that Makes You Believe God Exists" :)lol), and "Whatever Happened to Soy Bomb" to name some.

String Quartet Tribute to Radiohead's OK Computer
All the songs pretty much suck, EXCEPT for Lucky. It makes you appreciate the song a lot more than you already did.

Shearwater, Winged Life

Unbelievably great. I can't believe this is "just" an Okkervil side project; it's easily on par with their best work, at times even surpassing it. I think I'd like this neurally piped into my head forever.

Is this any good? What's a Petra Hayden?

It's... interesting. Mike Watt suggested the idea, so she (Petra Haden from That Dog and the Rentals) recorded an accapella version of The Who's album without ever having heard the original. Using an 8-track, she recreates every aspect -- vocals, guitars, drumming, the works -- with just her voice, and quite well, at that. "I Can See for Miles" and "Our Love Was" are especially slick. I don't know that it's essential listening, but as a musical oddity, there are certainly worse things to spend 40 minutes with.

Bleed Like Me

no one song really stands out but pretty solid overall

It's an album that grows on you. During the first listen, I wasn't impressed. After the second, I wanted to hear it again. Now, I listen to it quite regularly. I would say "Why Do You Love Me" is the stand out song, I love it. My other favorites are "Bad Boyfriend," "Metal Heart," "Sex is not the Enemy" and "Happy Home."

I've also been listening to The Donnas - Gold Medal and of course, Judas Priest - Angel of Retribution.......Tuesday, June 14, live at Montage Mountain baby!

I need to listen to Illinois a few more times. I was getting tired of it halfway through, but the first few tracks impressed me.

I've enjoyed all of his albums, save for Enjoy Your Rabbit.

Yeah, I pretty much agree with all of this.

Beck's Guero is exquisite, haters be damned. It's not his best by most accounts, but it's still solid and very enjoyable.

Extraordinary Machine took a bit to grow on me since I haven't listened to Fiona since Tidal years and years ago, but that works out for the better because I've since refined my tastes substantially and really appreciate her work these days far more than I ever did. If this ever gets released, I'll buy it just out of principle.

Garbage's Bleed Like Me is, so far, ranking lower than Beautiful Garbage for me. I think they peaked with 2.0 and have been sliding down since. It just feels trite and uninspired; this one feels like someone left the doors open to a building. It's doesn't feel tight in the least and notably shallow. Reminds me of Collective Soul's Youth in that aspect.

Been listening to Ben Folds' new one, which isn't as good as I was hoping, but I always enjoy his work, so it's good to have a lot more of his music on hand. I just wish Hiro's Song was of higher quality.

she's on a major label she needs to get some top-notch producers or hook up with some indie soul groups cause the production on this album is so awful. she's able to save most of the tracks cause her voice is very high in the mix. anyway it's pretty good, though she could knock out a great pop album if she tried.

Slightly Stoopid - Closer to the Sun

If you like(d) Sublime, you'll prolly dig these guys. I think they were signed to Skunk before Bradley died. Either way, it's as close as you're gonna get to a modern Sublime. Not bad live, either.

-> really good stuff. initial opinion: she's better than her brother!

Weezer
-> see exxy's thread

Miriam Yeung - Single
-> her new recording company sucks. I admire that they're not giving her an endless stream of K Songs. However, these songs just suck. The rockier style fits her better than r&b or electronic. they also need to stop giving her songs with 'twinkling' keyboards.
