yesterday i was going thru my CD collection and found this amazing CD and instanlty put it on.

one of my favorit groups ever, they are almost up there with Radiohead!

Surely I cannot be the only person from this esteemed forum listening to Electrelane's "Power Out". Fantastic album that really escaped my radar last year. Having gone through the whole record about 25 times now, I can confidently confirm there are only 2 sub-par songs on the entire thing.

They really don't sound like any other band out there today, though you'll find hints of Stereolab, Sleater-Kinney, and even Sea and Cake. Pretty all over the place, and Albini's made the record to. I'll go out on a limb and say it's the most non-Albini sounding Albini record in like forever (ok, well not really).

This is by no means some life-changing record, but it is... nice. Yeah that's it. Nice.

My pimping of bands is really like 50/50. Hit or miss. This would qualify as part of the better 50.

Heh.

I have that record, and haven't listened to it in forever. It's definitely pretty, though far from Radiohead caliber. "747" is an amazing song.

C'mon, put up the new LP for preorder NOW dudes. Will, I want to have your kids, LET ME BUY YOUR RECORD! :(

That's a really solid track. I've only listened to River of Golden Dreams (?) but that is a fair bit up from that in terms of quality.

My wallet am cry this year, by the sounds of things. :/

Molina will always make you cry like a little girl. Conor & Will make me bawl, too, so it all works out, dawg.

This is a nutty year. These are the releases I plan on purchasing JUST on March 22:

A Frames - Black Forest
The Decemberists - Picaresque
Hella - Church Gone Wild/Chirpin' Hard
Out Hud - Let Us Never Speak of It Again
Prefuse 73 - Surrounded by Silence
Queens of the Stone Age - Lullabies to Paralyze
Thunderbirds Are Now! - Justamustache

Gross :/ This year it's like there's no releases on a week, or like 10 awesome ones. Fuckers at record labels space it out more, I'm a poor college kid :/

I've got to admit that both new Bright Eyes albums have grown on me and I really love listening to them. I feel like a tool. ;)

I've had the album since like 2001. It would've grown on me by now. Like Archaix said... there's only a couple good songs on it (Holland, 1945 is great). In the Aeroplane Over the Sea just comes off as being a failed concept album with a lack of depth in music, lyrics and overall execution to me. I don't understand how some of you indie kids go crazy over this album, but hey - to each his own.

If the only song that you like it on is Holland, 1945 it just confirms my opinion that you're just someone who only likes rock music with a bit of pop in them, yet is pretentious enough to believe that the music he listens to is better than "mere" pop. Why does one song confirm this opinion, you ask? Well, Holland, 1945 is the only real rock-poppy song on the album, and it's the only one you like, so there you go.

No, I don't hate pop. I like it quite a bit actually. I just find hypocrites who like to bash Tool yet listen to music which pretty much plays to the same level, funny as hell. That level being pseduo-intellectual pop gunk.

Note: In the Aeroplane Over The Sea is pop music. Almost all of the music people here listen to is pop music. The difference is you seem to think you're better than that, and try more vociferously than anyone else here to wage some war against the masses.

Speaking of new releases, does anyone know what happened with the Team Sleep (side project with Deftone's Chino, among others) release? Did it come out, or is it on hold indefinitely?

I heard a couple songs from Team Sleep a year or two ago and they sounded really good. (There's a Team Sleep song on the Matrix reloaded soundtrack, but I don't think thats the best representation of their sound. If you want an idea, i think the website has a sample)

I think most people would say Down the River of Golden Dreams, but I prefer Don't Fall in Love With Everyone You See.... Sleep and Wake-up Songs is good too. You can start anywhere, really.

How often do I have to post this before people start listening to it?

When I don't have to spend $25 to buy at as an import at my local record shop. That's when.

As for what I'm listening to:

I don't think I'm better than anyone's opinion, Popo. Stop assuming that.
If it makes you feel any better, "Untitled" and "In The Aeroplane Over the Sea" aren't bad either. But songs like "Oh Comely" and "Two-Headed Boy" are just awful IMO. It isn't because of there being a lack of pop, it's just because I don't like the song! Plain and simple. But honestly, I don't think I'm better than anyone. I know there's a lot of people here that have heard more indie than I ever will.

Mifune: According to the website the cover for the single was taken from the cache of artwork Schaff submitted for Black-Sheep Boy, so expect something similar.

I prefer Don't Fall in Love... to Down The River... as well. There's something about that artwork, and "Westfall" and "Okkervil River Song." *Swoon*

You backpedal after you've pretty much stated, as if you're the only person who's right, that the album is horrible, overrated garbage. I think Sirpopopopopopopopopopopopopopop's assessment of your "opinions" is valid.

Sweet. We might have our first album artwork of the year candidate.

Has anyone heard Andrew Bird? I listened to a couple of his tracks, and I love them. I want to pick up his new album, but I'm now unemployed, and I feel guilty. Still need to get that earlier Okkervil EP, Iron and Wine EP, and Mogwai BBC shite.

Man, the The Go! Team album is just loads of fun and filled with musical CANDY. Really good stuff.

I was listening to KEXP the other day and the DJ was mentioning how The Go! Team has gotten into some trouble with sampling on the album, which is why we haven't seen a domestic release. Surprised me, seeing how I had just bought the album the week before in Seattle for $12 brand new.

Total score for you. Too bad that the band's being sued 'cause the album is really great and if I was an artist I would probably be flattered that my sample was used on such a great record.

This is really great too. You can just see Mr. Beam stomping his feet around while sashaying through these 6 quality tracks.

And I really need to find Mogwai's Government Commissions somewhere. Hmm...

The Organ are pretty boring live...but if you enjoyed their latest release you'll probably enjoy it. Stars are awesome, that's all that needs to be said.

Trail of Dead are loud so bring earplugs if you're going to go. They used to smash up their equipment when they were done the show (dunno if they still do) so that would be interesting to see. Be warned that it's an all-ages show and it's at the Opera House...god I hate that venue.

Have you heard the new single? I was gutted when they stopped translating their songs into English, but I still get the Swedish stuff 'cos the music is good. There's a video online of the new single here.

All I can say is HOLY SHIT. I am soooo happy I can download Morr releases on a fucking whim (and at $1.35 a song).

Styrofoam's latest is alright, but I much prefer 2000's A short album about murder. I feel there's too many directions on the new album. I like the Ben Gibbard and Andrew Kenny tracks though. Andrew Kenny has a fantastic voice that compliments Styrofoam's music talent (see also Styrofoam's contributions to Andrew Kenny and Co on the American Analog Set EP Updates).

Been listening to The Go Find's Miami (which is a fantastic record that seemed to get lost in the shuffle last year) and LCD Soundsystem.

Mario_Hugo

Lisa Edelstein's dad touched my private parts. True fact.
Yeah, the styrofoam is eclectic, but there are some fantastic tracks. I'm particularly fond of the first on the album, but I'm dissapointed in the Gibbard track which is lyrically lacking. The Kenny track is ridiculously good--especially the I-read-your-diary hook. Miami is a great album but the remixed EP is pretty eh, imo. Morr was banking on The Go Find being a little indie hit, but it was indeed lost in the shuffle. I'm also really dissapointed in the Styrofoam remix of Nothing Better--I'm beginning to wish it was a cover and not a remix. As per other things coming down morr pipe (or even on other labels related to Morr)...

What I've heard of 13+God sounds good. Very Notwist, very beautiful. That said, I've heard half the album is completely awful. I'm also waiting on Masha Qrella and the newest Poplous...

Been listening to the LCD Soundsystem singles and Ms. John Soda.

later.

The more I listen to it, the more that new Okkervil River song sounds like an intermediary Wrens song between Secaucus and the Meadowlands. Which is a good thing.

Can't wait for that, the new Spoon, and the new QOTSA album to hit.

Mogwai, Government Commissions
LCD Soundsystem, S/T (mainly the singles disc)
