What are your expectations for Nintendo Wifi?

Other than the obvious simple matchmaking and whatnot, what do you want/think Nintendo will reveal about the service? Do you think they even have what it takes to run it properly? Is it possible for online enabled games to have space in the Eprom for multiplayer patches?

Moreover, how active a stance do you think they'll take on harrasement and cheating and the like? I mean come on, its only a matter of time before the Animal Crossing prostitution rings pop up.

I'm thinking that with most games, they'll barely even allow chat. I wouldn't be surprised if Mario Kart only displays the username and doesn't allow for any more communication then needed. But Animal Crossing... thats a different story.

i'm anxiously awaiting that.

Well, I don't know, but after almost 20 years of experimentation, I sure fucking hope so!

Also, Gamespy is helping Nintendo out. Gamespy is pretty much on top of online gaming, amirite?

It's going to be awesome. I highly doubt any other game will be getting more playtime from me this fall over Mario Kart and Animal Crossing.

It's not going to support standard 802.11x, right? I'm not going to buy additional equipment. Therefore I have exactly no expectations at all.

Same here. Its weird. I've played countless online games on PC. There's no novelty there, but there's just something about the prospect of online Nintendo produced games thats undeniably appealing.

I think its because the best online games are the simplest. Read: Counter Strike

I have a question about NDS' Wi-fI. Once Nintendo has it up and running, all I'll need is a wireless router to use it right? And will I be able to just turn on the DS and start playing? And will older games like Nintendogs and AW:DS work as well?

I expect it to be easy to set up and to work brilliantly. Mario Kart is going to get a helluva lot of play from me. Same should go for Animal Crossing. Hopefully MP Hunters will have some interesting online modes. Now hurry up and reveal the headset already.

yes it will.. and if you already have a wireless router, you wont need to purchase anything else.

Huh? It supports 802.11b, as far as I am aware of.

I wish they'd allow you to add friends to your buddylist straight from your DS rather than doing it on a PC.

I also hope most of the titles allows users to use voice communication if they wish.

Anyone knows if this will be possible? i want my multiplayer AWDS fix as well as getting the new breeds before playing with my pups for 100 hrs :P

I really doubt it. Its gotta be in the software.

As obvious as Advance Wars DS battles sound, you'd end up getting more loser dropouts than a regular game of Madden Online.

Only small maps would really work :\

Ideally, if not for DS then for Revolution I would expect no less than a polished metagame - maybe a stripped down Animal Crossing engine

I hope it will have VoIP implemented in all games (DSpeak or something like that).
I have no fun to play against some strangers or friends without being able to talk to them.
Nintendo always said that you need to have the same experience like sitting beside your friends in your living room. Well, I think that's true and I hope I can talk to the guys I play with over WiFi Connection...
If that's not the case I can't imagine to play Mario Kart DS that often...

Nintendogs Holiday edition???

Normally what Nintendo release works, and works well. So I expect a fully functional platform that grows over time and becomes the biggest online community in the world.
I also expect that a SSBM DS release at the time of the Rev release, so you can carry your game on the go, and transfer your data to you Rev when you get home, so your character/Profile is always being used.
I expect this with all Nintendo Rev/DS games. The ability to play your game on the go and at home!

Curious here, when are they actually going to reveal concrete details of the service? Mario Kart isn't too far away, so I'd expect them to hold an event concerning it in the not-too-distant future.

Whats there to announce?
TheyÂ’ve already announced how it works, and what youÂ’ll need, and that they are setting up Wi-Fi points in stores?

I wonder if titles like Homeland and Giftpia that never saw the light of day at least here could be moved to the DS to make use of Wi-Fi. Both titles looked really good and interesting as I can remember.

What I expect:

* Good integration with Nintendo.com, Nintendo-Europe.com and Nintendo.co.jp user accounts
* Stats available on those sites for at least Nintendo games
* DSpeak to appear in at least one Nintendo game, but no VoIP communication in game unless its in a game 'lobby' or in a slow/turn-based game as it would take a decent amount of resources
* Mario Party to be MUCH more interesting
* Good third party support
* Basic matchmaking for most games, and equivilent of Optimatch
* Pictochat update, or Pictochat Online included in some games
* FFCC will rule. Nintendo should make a Four Swords style game. They could even do Pacman VS and it would rock.

Animal Crossing is my most anticipated game on the DS, and it´s because of the WiFi support. I´m eager to visit some friend´s towns. Mario Kart should be fine too.

About that thing of VoIP, just forget it. DS is not enough powerfull to manage multiplayer (or singleplayer) games plus VoIP. If that could be possible, I´d be really, really amazed and surprised.

Edit: Downloadable demos should be the norm.

I've never even tried the LAN for MarioKart:DD, but I hear it was a relative disaster. It was Nintendo's first foray into that arena, and despite 20 years of 'researching' online, I'm not convinced they can pull off something like a true online experience. I'm waiting until I see it.

I've played split screen 8 player MK with 2 cubes hooked upto my 42" plasma and it worked flawlessly. Character selection was random, and that was my only complaint. That isnt the case with MK:DS, you can have 2 marios etc.

Warp Pipe was disappointing, but thats hardly Nintendo's fault.

MKDD LAN was fine, but they intentionally removed the play selection screen... you can argue about the "why" and "when" forever, but the game worked very well in LAN mode. It wasn't online, though... officially.

I expect the DS online games to work very well... although I am annoyed that I can't just plug it into my router.

Nintendo Wifi Connection will be up and running in November - internal Beta testing is currently taking place within Nintendo now.

Each territory will be making specific deals with public wi-fi hotspot providers so that people can play on-line outside of the home for free. There will be no charges for the service whatsoever, and getting on-line is as simple as selecting the "Wifi multiplayer" option from the menu in the game. Game retailers will also offer free hotspots for downloading demos and playing the games on-line. Obviously anyone with wifi broadband at home can play too. (although dial-up probably won't be supported or at least won't be recommended)

Mario Kart DS and Tony Hawks' American Sk8land will be the first titles to support the Wi-Fi connection, with more announced in the coming months.

Games already released will not be able to be patched to go on online as the DS only has a small amount of FLASH memory that blanks when the machine is switched off.

That's enough for now!!
