This is a fun list. Much respect to any PC Engine fan. Any reason for Intellivision being #5? Nostalgia? I always find that era of consoles difficult to return to.
I love my little PC-Engine.

INTV was the one system I thought of as Pro-Level when I was a kid. When I finally got my own in the early 90's (INTV-III) with a ton of games, it was like a nostalgia bomb went off. I still get that feeling whenever I boot it up for a game of Burgertime or Deadly Discs or whatever. Just a lot of really great memories there - and yes, I'm gonna buy an Amiico when it hits.

My cousins and I grew up with Colecovision briefly before I acquired an NES, and my cousin got SNES. I have the faintest memories of Smurfs and whatever that cat and mouse game was called.

I had eventually scored an Intellivision at a garage sale. I just remember some weird surgery game and then a Combat clone but boooy was it hard to get into. I'm glad that someone out there has love for the platform.

EDIT: also played a ton of Bonk, Keith Courage, and JJ and Jeff at my dad's friend's house around 1996 or so. Those TG16 cards blew my mind. I'm assuming PC Engine is super similar.

In no order:

ColecoVision - at a time when arcade games ruled it was such a step up from the Atari in terms of graphics and arcade ports.

Snes - I got back into gaming with this after a few lost years in the late 80's.

Saturn - mainly for the imports, Vampire Saviour, Dodonpachi etc.

OG Xbox - for sitting on a sofa and playing mame. I still have one hooked up to the tv with coin-ops installed.

Xbox360 - for the shmups.

PS4 - an obvious one, but this console has been great for me. Loads of good single player games and I first started playing online with this console.

Switch
PS4
Dreamcast
PSX
Saturn
Mega Drive
Gamecube

Not necessarily in that order.

SNES, Genesis, Dreamcast, Gamecube, N64.

I realize the N64 library is bad but as a teenager it had more must-own titles than I could buy and was a 3D trailblazer. In terms of what I had most fun with, it may be best of all time for all the multiplayer antics in Goldeneye, Starfox, Kart, Smash, Mario Party and Snowboard Kids. It also has some of the most defining 3D experiences ever with Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time. Despite the major flaws in its hardware and library, this to me is the most megaton new game system release ever based on its earth-shattering launch title and overall accomplishments. Gamecube brought me VASTLY improved versions of two of my favorite games ever near launch, Smash and Rogue Squadron. It failed to reach the overall impact of N64 but Melee alone makes it quintessential.

I had a long phase with Genesis as a kid when I was obsessed with Sonic games, and then gave the SNES more attention near the end of the gen when I discovered my first RPG (Super Mario RPG) and Yoshi's Island. These systems are essentially timeless as the zenith of 2D gaming and their libraries seem endless, the SNES stronger in RPGs and conservative classics and Genesis stronger in games that have a helicopter on the box.

Dreamcast brought insane graphics power and a modem with loads of amazing games and arcade ports. I will never forget PSO on this system.

After that gen I began drifting away from new consoles. I brought a PS3 for a few games and as a blu-ray player. I moved towards FPS and RTS games on PC and still had my Nintendo and Sega stuff for a different experience. I've owned many PS and Xbox systems but was never very excited about them nor amassed too many games for them.

Hard to put in a set order as I'm not a big list guy. So I'll just offer some thoughts on each generation I've been gaming.

-NES. All we had that generation, and got it later on. We had an Atari 5200 prior to that, but I was young and the buttons always broke on the joysticks so we could only play things like Frogger that didn't need the fire button. So NES was what really got me into gaming. Also had a Gameboy and enjoyed a lot of game on that.

-SNES. Also all we had, but we got it earlier on in the generation that time. That was the console that really cemented gaming as a main hobby of mine as it hit during middle school and first year or two of high school for me when gaming was blowing up.

-N64. First console I bought with my own money at 17 when it came out. Got played a ton those last couple years of high school and then MK64 and Goldeneye in the dorms in college freshman year. Got a PS1 later on after being blown away by Resident Evil and Final Fantasy 7 and my tastes started shifting to story-driven games. The two consoles probably ended up pretty equal in play time.

-GC/PS2/Xbox-weird generation for me as it coincided with last couple of years of college and first few years of grad school. I was pretty busy and gamed less, built a backlog due to having some more money than in my younger days, but played less. Got the GC first as I was still a big Nintendo fan, probably played PS2 the most and Xbox definitely the least as I just got it late and mostly for KOTOR. Also had a GBA and played a lot of 2D games on that.

-Wii/360/PS3. Got the Wii first, largely because the 360 and especially PS3 were too expensive for my grad student budget at the time. I soured on waggle and the SD graphics once I got an HDTV. 360 ended up my main by far. Got a PS3 late gen after my Live account got stolen and migrated to Russia and took like 3 months to resolve (wanted to catch up on Sony exclusives anyway). Also had a DS that got a ton of play time.

-Wii U? Don't know what generation to put this, but enjoyed the console for the most part. Nice having Nintendo games in HD finally. Also had a vita and 3DS that got a lot of playtime on the handheld side of things

-PS4/Switch/Xbox 1(PC)- Switched to PS4 as my main after that disaster of an Xbox 1 launch with forced Kinect etc. Haven't regretted it at all as it's ended up as one of my favorite platforms in terms of exclusives. I love cinematic, narrative-driven games and Sony's first party studies have just become the premier place (along with Rockstar, CDPR and a few others) for that type of gaming. I also love the Switch library and hybrid functionality. Xbox 1 I had briefly before Play Anywhere started, after that I sold it and just get the few games MS has put out that interest me this generation on PC. Gamepass is a great service, just too few exclusives were to my taste this generation. Maybe that will change next gen with all their acquisitions.

1. Xbox 360 (frankly what i would consider the epitome of last gen. Despite the teetering of exlusives towards the last half, plenty of my favorite games came from this system and my all time favorite game, halo 3, along with a superb online solidifies this as my number one system.)
2. Nintendo 64 (so many amazing memories from games like smash, zelda, mario 64/kart/party, Banjo kazooie, golden eye, etc.)
3. Gamecube (in hindsight, it had a solid library, some of my favorite nintendo games and easily one of my favorite controllers.)
4. The Game Boy line (while the nintendo ds saw the most from me as a single generation of handhelds, the entire gb line from gameboy pocket to color to advance defined my childhood.)
5. PS2 (absolutely super huge library, decent controller, BC with ps1, plenty of amazing memories.)

and then the following five is in no particular order:

-SNES
-PS4
-Nintendo Switch
-NDS/3DS
-xbox

In no particular order my top 10 would be:

  • PSX: Incredible variety of games and lot of JRPG masterpieces in this system including some of my favourite games of all time like FFVII, FF Tactics and Xenogears
  • PS2: Massive library and lots of good games in many many genres.
  • PS4: Very nice catalogue with lots of great japanese titles. For me it was a great comeback after a not so. great PS3. Bloodborne alone can make it one of my favourite consoles :)
  • Dreamcast: This console was arcade games paradise. First time I felt we were getting actually good ports of arcade fighting games.
  • MegaDrive: My favourite childhood console. Lot of nice memories with this one. Classic Sonic games were unique
  • Switch: Really like this system capabilities. It's just so convenient to use.
  • GameCube: Great games like Killer 7 and Resident Evil 4 had their best versions here. Technically it was a beast. Also very good Nintendo exclusives as usual. Zelda Twilight Princess was awesome.
  • Xbox 360: Amazing system despite the hardware issues. First time I had a good online experience. It was abandoned too early but the first years were incredible.
  • Mega CD: Sonic CD the best in the saga IMO. This system has lot of hidden gems.
  • Nintendo 64: Super Mario 64 and Zelda Majora's Mask are easily two of my favourite games ever. Have plenty of nice memories playing games like Mario Kart 64, Goldeneye or F-Zero with friends

My step-brother got a Colecovision back when all I had was an Atari 2600, and I can say I was a little bit legit jelly.

Microsurgeon by Imagic! They had the coolest looking cartridges growing up, all silver-y and whatnot.

PCE is similar, but it's just so JAPAN. The late 80's/early 90's was my gaming peak, and there was just something so magical about all this cool new STUFF from Japan - anime, videogames, music...it was all so different and exciting. The whole era was just lightning in a bottle, and for me, the PCE just completely encapsulates it. So glad I got my mini from Japan this week and I can give the old girl a well-deserved rest.

I think that the Sega consoles are the top ones for me, my list is a reflection on what I am the most likely to play.
Sega Genesis
TurboGrafx-16
Sony PlayStation
Sega Dreamcast or Nintendo Gamecube.
Super Nintendo
Sega Saturn
Sega Master System (it's mostly for Phantasy Star)
Nintendo Entertainment System (it's on the list for nostalgia)

However, the PS4 is still giving me a great time, the PS3/2 were pretty good as well...
OG Xbox + Game Cube

The rest of the consoles don't deserve my time at all.

Not sure of the order, it would probably change every time I list those machines

I don't like handhelds, but I think that if I had to have one it would be the PSP--or the Switch.

3. 360
2. NES
1. PS2

It's gonna be hard for any console to beat PS2 for me going forward. PS2 was the console when I was in 8th grade and high school, which is the perfect time of life for gaming.

GTA 3 / Vice City / San Andreas, Gran Turismo 3, Metal Gear 2/3, THPS 3/4, Tony Hawk Underground...too many more to list. Amazing system. And it even had a DVD player which was new tech at the time.

I totally misread the op and thread title lol.

Uhm,

Gamecube
PS4
PS Vita (includes PSP for obvious reasons)
PS2
PS3
XBOX
GBA
XBOX 360
N64
Sega Megadrive

I'll stick to ten choices, but as with anything pertaining to lists, the number of (insert entity here) one wants to rank should be up to the one making their own personal list, IMO.

Having said that, I'll go with:

10. Sega Saturn
9. Playstation Vita
8. NES
7. Super Nintendo
6. Game Boy Advance
5. Playstation Portable
4. Sega Dreamcast
3. Playstation 2
2. Playstation 3
1. Nintendo 64
PS4, PS3, PS2, GameCube, GameBoy.

Going by the most important metric, the games available I like:

Super Nintendo Entertainment System
Sony Playstation
Nintendo DS
Sega Saturn
Sony Playstation 2

Going by hardware implementation (robust implementation of features is more important than being cutting edge, imho):

Sega Mega Drive
Gameboy Color
Sega Dreamcast
Super Nintendo Entertainment System
Nintendo DS

Going by build quality and user experience would be something I'd need to think about more.

Sega Mega Drive
PS1
PS2
Xbox 360

I've owned a PS3, PS4 and Xbox One X but they didn't stand out to me either because I was on the competition ie the Xbox 360 or later because I got into PC gaming then afterwards I was growing out of gaming at the time and barely used them. Now I've got a PS5 and I'm getting back into this hobby checking out games I missed in the ps collection.
