Well, your assumptions, being a nintendo-hater, aren't any more credible than his are.Drinky Crow said:You're a Nintendo fanboy, and you aren't a developer. How could your claims be anything BUT assumptions -- and phrased assertively, against all reason?
Drinky Crow said:I'm really only speculating. This could be an articulated overarching strategy by Nintendo. The Revolution COULD be a staggering piece of PS3-caliber hardware in a box 1/3rd of the size. But if it WAS, they coulda shut down Sony in a heartbeat at E3, and been pre-emptively declared the NEXT GEN WINNAR by the geek media. Still: who knows? Nintendo is both surprisingly clever and unfathomably reactionary. In this context, I think past history favors the latter case.
how do you figure? oh that's right, we know each other. silly me, how could i forget? i must have been so excited i forgot or something.Drinky Crow said:You're an easily excitable photographer.

Could be a "behind closed doors" presentation. Reggie said something about this in a recent interview.GaimeGuy said:...
For now, we don't know much on Revolution. But I'm certain that we will know much more by the end of E3, including the wonders which Johnny said we'd see.
-jinx- said:Y'know, arguing over whether Johnny intentionally or unintentionally misled people with his "insider info" begs a larger question: Why is leaking ANY information in a public forum considered to be a good thing?
I am constantly amazed at how utterly poor most people are at keeping secrets, and all of the insider (and wannabe-insider) info floated during the runup to E3 is yet another example. Unless authorized by an authority for a specific purpose or strategy, the fact that ANY of you are willing to leak "insider information" is disturbing. Oh, by the way, saying "I know something but I can't tell you" is almost as bad, since now you've made yourself a target for people who are hellbent on figuring out your privileged info. The best way to protect a secret is for people to not even know that you know.
Suffice it to say that in my line of work, that kind of behavior wouldn't just get you fired -- it would land you in jail.
Drinky Crow said:Here's my GUESS on how it played out:
Nintendo had cooked up a little reel of Revolution works-in-progress. They, like most navel-gazing folks in the industry, probably figured that Sony would focus on current gen content and not go balls out with the PS3 hype machine -- that Ken and Kaz would play coy with the PS3 specs and wait to make a concrete announcement at a later date. Hell, I think MOST folks save a few deep insiders expected that, including a few VPs.
Sony drops a big ol' bomb designed to send geeks into a next-gen slather. Reggie and Iwata realize that ANYTHING they run after that is gonna be the CANONICAL comparison between the PS3 and Revolution for the next six-plus months, and that the Revolution will be painted as "a disappointing effort by Nintendo to compete". The traditional spin of "we're about content, not hardware" won't work, because the demo reel belies that strategy; it focused on graphics and audiovisuals, but the presentation and the numbers don't match up in any way that can be conveniently excused.
So they gank the demo reel, extend the DS portion, confine the Rev talk to some teaser images and the product design, and delay the conference by 45 minutes as they get the revised program locked down. To them, it seems perfectly positive and exciting; they've forgotten how fanboy and media expectations work. Now the Revolution remains a mystery-at-large (barring leaks), and the focus is on PS3 versus 360, not PS3 versus 360 versus Revolution -- a match they can't win in the eyes of the larger media narrative.
The new strategy is to wait and create a more Revolution-centric unveiling that emphasizes the new controller and content scheme after the initial PS3 shock has died down and the media is a little more receptive. Plus, it's a better chance to get media coverage sans direct comparisons to Sony's juggernaut.
The mistake they made was anticipating Sony. Sony roared, and it stopped poor Nintendo in their tracks. The conference was a hasty reshuffling, and will probably prove a better media exposure strategy in the long term than going ahead and taking the massive ding.
I still think they shoulda shown the controller, but I *suspect* that in their panic, they cut everything that might give the competition too much information or a perceived edge. Was it wise? As ever: fuck if I know.
Right before the pressconference, there were four short clips on the Nintendo.com website which would be activated when trying to click on something. It showed some people in discussion on how they would fill in their E3 showing. So they got to talk about the pressconference on tuesday and some party on wednesday, and then they still got something planned for thursday and friday which they wouldn’t elaborate about, saying we “have to wait”. One of the clips also showed Reggie saying: “don’t make me do it! I’ll take your name.” and the last one showing a frowning WTF?!-like face.

JC10001 said:I can't say that I'm not a little disappointed that they didn't show anything but Reggie did mention several times that this E3 would not be Revolution's coming out party.
If you just stop to think about it for a minute it was actually a very wise move not to show anything. No matter what they showed they weren't going to top Sony. That much is clear. By tossing their hat into the ring at this point in time it would create a 3 way race from here on out.
Things can get muddled quickly in a three way race. If Nintendo shows the Revolution and the games don't look that much better or even worse than those on the X360 then MS becomes a viable #2 console for many people (with PS3 being #1 for most) and they will buy one at launch with plans to buy a PS3 when it comes out.
By not showing the Revolution, Nintendo avoided having its debut overshadowed by Sony and left many people in limbo about buying an X360 at or near launch. Unlike Sony, MS has yet to close the deal next-gen with many people and IMO Nintendo knows this. Its best for them to stay out of it and let Sony spend all of its energy chipping away at the X360 over the next few months while they spend time preparing their software. If they wait until they are ready and make a good first impression they have a clear shot at being a solid #2 the next time around.
And Nighttrain.... I hope that everything you said does in fact happen. You've been right in the past so I am willing to give you the benefit of the doubt.
Francois the Great said:Imagine how brilliant it would be if out of nowhere Nintendo has Revolution games playable on the show floor with graphics rivaling PS3. EVERYONE, all gamers, all media, would be talking about it, and wanting to learn more about the system and its innovative features.
This way it wouldn't get overshadowed by the PS3's unveiling. Pretty smart, if true.
:lol damn, what an ass :lolPC Gaijin said:So it was you :lol. And several people came forward with stories of being scammed by you, not just one. And the original scam was $20 :lol. Dude, you should just deny it all rather than trying to minimize it by saying "oh, it was only one guy and for only $10".
mCACGj said:That would be quite ingenious actually, and it would actually turn the tables and put the momentum on Nintendo's side. Chances of happening though? Probably 1%.
I hope you're right Johnny, and I still believe you.
Francois the Great said:The Nintendrones are now going on a rumour that the Revolution will be revealed on Thursday, based on what that Aries guy said at the brokensaints blog.
He predicted backwards compatibility with all previous Nintendo systems, SSB online at launch, and a Square-Enix online game, which all came true.
However, the interesting part is that he also said that Nintendo's press conference would be lame. He said Nintendo would "punk" us all and reveal the Revolution on the 19th.
On top of this, there were 4 teaser clips that played on nintendo.com leading up to the PC. I didn't see them, but this is the description of Ronn from the blog:
Thursday is the 19th. Something could be up.
I personally believe that this is all bullshit, and Megaton 2.0, but hey, it's a possibility.
It's not just what he said. The video on Nintendo.com specifically spoke about a presentation on thursday (the 19th, if you aren't keeping track of dates).Shaheed79 said:Yeah I did notice how just about everything this guy said came true but I didn't want to set myself up for this guy. We are all so underwhelmed that if anything happens with Nintendo during the rest of E3 on the Revolution front it will be very unexpected. Lol it is kind of funny how many people pledged to give up on Nintendo forever after that conference including myself. I'll forgive them eventually as more information is released and as long as the Revolution isn't marginally underpowered.
