What did you see the first time you had sleep paralysis?

my high school gf was the first one to tell me about how she would get sleep paralysis

it's only after that i got it ONCE

i went to sleep on my back and i was frozen solid but i didn't see anything, however i anticipated seeing some bullshit out the corner of my eye, and i was afraid there was something lurking around the sides of my bed

its a bizarre feeling not being able to move

goddamn, its for this reason i try not to sleep on my back til this today (unless i'm napping with the sun out)

When I was a kid I saw this huge hunched over grey alien in my bedroom (except he was white and wearing a cloak). I don’t think it was sleep paralysis but was definitely some kind of half asleep state.

A friend of mine regularly has sleep paralysis and he’s described it to me in some detail.

I wouldn’t wish that on anybody. He says he won’t even sleep on his back even if it would be more comfortable because he only gets it on his back.

I used to get sleep paralysis a lot as a kid, and I still do every now and then. Thankfully I rarely ever see things when it happens, and at this point I'm used to it enough to remain calm until I fall back to sleep. But when it first started it was scary enough to wake up and not be able to move, and a few times it did feel like there was a heavy pressure on top of me. Not fun at all. :messenger_fearful:

what do you think when you see something like that?

From what I remember it was just your typical sleep paralysis situation. Just screaming my head off, but no noise was coming out so I laid there trying to will myself to wake.

Fortunately it hasn't happened since I was a kid. Not sure what my adult brain could possibly conjure that would even phase me. Maybe a Resetera member or something.

The ones i remember were:
  1. red glowing eyes at the bottom of my bed, I was very young and sleeping in my mother bedroom, so i didn't get that scared.
  2. I once felt someone touching my back a pulling my shirt while sleeping sideways.
  3. But the one i remember more clearly was watching a HUGE spider walking down the wall towards me, funny thing is i was able to rationalized, i thought "oh shit i can't move and i'm probably hallucinating, but what if i'm not, i need to wake up" I tried my best to scream until i was able too and my body moved, i fell of the bed and low and behold, a tiny itty bitty spider was on the wall (but not the huge people eater monster that i was hallucinating)

Tell your friend I am the same. I really can´t sleep on my back. Sometimes I get confident that it won´t happen again but after 4 or 5 nights sleeping on my back and BAM! there we go. Each session is more frightening than the previous one.

The first time I saw a small creature floating on a small cloud or almost as if coming from it, near and above my chest. It was as small as a cat but it was twitching and twisting so insanely quickly that I couldn´t tell its detailed features.

yup, the time i got it, i immediately thought "okay here it is" lol

i was half panicking and half thinking this is what it's supposed to be like and i'm not the only one to experience this

that may have had something to do with why i didn't see any monsters

Never been blessed with any of these horrors before.. are you able to just keep your eyes shut through it? Or is it actually happening in a dream so there’s no escaping except waking up?

"blessed"?

I am all for experiencing things with moral and ethical acceptability but this experience is not what I would wish on anybody. If you think about it sleep is your most vulnerable and private state and just having that violated is very disturbing. Now imagine having something described in this thread happening on top of that.

Your consciousness was asleep before the incident. Before you manage to collect your rationality and agency you will be affected and not in the good way.

Never had these thank god, but I used to have night terrors when I was younger. It sucked ass, I used to wake up feeling like I couldn't breathe all covered in sweat and completely unable to remain in bed. I couldn't fall asleep again. My parents were kind of understanding but not all that much, so I was left alone a lot. Incidentally, that's when I started to become more serious about gaming. Playing stuff like Mario World or Donkey Kong Country would calm me in those sleepless nights.

Just a little facetiousness mate :messenger_winking:

I’ve battled bouts of insomnia before, but thankfully no demons sitting on my chest, that’s why I was curious to hear about the conditions for it.

Playing stuff like Mario World or Donkey Kong Country would calm me in those sleepless nights.

DKC2’s soundtrack has some amazingly calming tracks. The ghost forest one was always my fave.

Only happen to me once in my whole life. I was in my early 20s.

When I realized I couldn't move I saw the face of a lion. I struggled to move and the face became that of a wolf. I struggled once more and it became a cobra. The finally time I struggled but was able to break out of it and move.

The most memorable sleep paralysis experience I had was after a night of heavy drinking (go figure lol).

I "woke up" in my bed, and felt something rustling under the sheets. Thought it was my cat (it was not). It kept moving and started tugging my blanket. I couldn't move my arms or neck or anything. I was just stuck.

Then I felt this immense pressure on my chest, and that's when things started getting creepy. I saw this succubus type entity floating down on me, almost trying to hug me. I tried to scream but I couldn't. Just felt like I was being crushed under a very heavy weight.

It didn't last very long, maybe a minute or two. When I "broke free" of whatever that was, for the first time in my life, I genuinely felt like I unknowingly "summoned" something evil from the deepest depths of hell. It was bizarre and terrifying and very uncomfortable.

I had another experience, and that was similarly very "mystical". I was glued to my bed. 2 succubus females lying next to me. I looked over and saw a hag standing near my doorway. She then rushed towards me and started yelling. A small orb of light appeared, and then I "broke free". It's like I was saved by something from another dimension lol. Gives me chills just thinking about it.

I'm just alone in my room and I know I'm dreaming. I hate it for some reason. I go into berserk mode and just force myself to wake up yelling and screaming in my head to wake up if that makes sense.

Sounds terrifying guys. :messenger_grimmacing_
Never happened to me, hell I can’t even remember my dreams.
I've read you can induce it by trying to wake up from naps and going back to sleep constantly until eventually you fail.
No idea why anyone would like to tho, i don't have that much faith in my imagination playing nice not to mention that your senses are working so anything can influence you.
It's like dreaming but having sensory input while you're at it.

Half documentary, half tries to make you scared about the subject.

I remember about 20 years ago when I had a really bad one. I thought a dark figure had grabbed my left leg holding it up in the air and slowly pulling me to my bedroom door that was wide open.
When I woke up petrified my bedroom door was closed and I slowly calmed the hell down.

When I had my first colonoscopy the local antithetic they used didn't put my under. Of course there is a monitor in the room that showcased the entire procedure. Talk about bad television.

That happened to my mother when she had me via C section. Apparently she was supposed to be put under but only got paralyzed and felt everything.

I've never seen anything because I always sleep on my stomach, but I've had sleep paralysis where I try to move my body but I can only really move my eyes. Still scary though. Been through it 3 times in my life.

It was about 98' and I was around 9 or 10. I saw some shadow on my bedroom wall that appeared to be wearing a hat. I tried to call to my family downstairs who I could hear in the kitchen, but I couldn't utter a sound. This dude seemed to give off a very sinister Krueger vibe. Seemed to last two or three minutes. Scared the shit out of me. It hasn't happened since. I've never felt so powerless in my life.

I’ve only ever had it a handful of times but when I was in my teens I definitely saw some sort of demon or Captain Howdy bullshit. It was terrifying. The last couple times as an adult I’ve realized what it is and stayed calm and didn’t imagine anything, though it’s still unpleasant

All the ones I had always involved spiders, the worst was when I was around 19, I woke up from a nap and from the ceiling to my bed there was an ungodly amount of spiderwebs with small spiders crawling through. I was terrified and thought that they were trying to wrap me up, I half thought they did because I couldn't move. Once I regained control of my body I jumped out of the bed (what's odd was I could feel the webs I was going through) and stared back at nothing

I haven't ever see any creatures or entities.
The first time was somewhere around 1998 when I was about 16.
Heard a lot of voices, whispering and talking more loudly, and then I started to float up.
And then became the feeling of death. I was 100% sure I will die if I float much higher and the dread was insufferable and boy did I fight back to first move one finger, then another, then another, until I swooshed back and was able to move myself and get up.

For a few years I didn't know what it was all about as the internet wasn't yet filled with information about everything and even if information was there it wasn't easy to find. Somewhere around 2001 or 2002 I learned this is a relatively common thing and learned the term 'sleep paralysis'. Before that I never dared to tell anyone anything about that because 1) maybe they'll think I'm crazy 2) maybe it's some brain disease or something and I don't want to know that.

Something coming down the hallway to my bedroom while I was trying to scream but no words would come out

That was terrifying for me

A very big green baby crawling towards my bed. It scared the hell out of me since I was a kid and had no idea what was happening. When I could finally move I just put my head under the pillow and stayed awake the entire night. The next day I told my mom I had seen a ghost. I don't actually remember when it was that I learned about the concept of "sleep paralysis".

I still have it from time to time - usually when I sleep on my back, like a lot of people here.

i had a lot before, now is over.

I saw many ghost shapes walking on the corridor, non stop. Mostly of the times they dont go inside my room, but when they do they com with ghost horses and some other lion type creatures.

those are the first i remeber. i had many more.

I remember a dream where I looked at my bedroom wall and could see the shadows of three gray aliens move towards me. It definitely creeped me out. It's also kind of interesting how light and shadow appear a little bit brighter and darker when we think we've woken up but are still really dreaming.

First time, nothing, just couldnt move body. Second time, saw a shadowy figure come of the window, crawling to get inside of it in my bedroom, with glowing red light outside like if it was an ambulance or something. There was a documentary on Netflix about sleep paralysis, and i panic totally knowing a lot of people seem to talk about a dark character, shadowy silhouette , and red light somewhere. Why a lot of us making these sleep paralysis, make a similar dream.

The first time I had sleep paralysis I was 15 and I was listening to conspiracy radio every night. I legitimately thought I was being abducted by aliens. I saw lights and figures in my bedroom. It was terrifying. Now I don't even get too upset about it but that first time was a fucking trip.

I had two major ones but my dad has them often.

The first one was i was on my back.
I was looking up the ceiling. Couldnt move.
And then the shit just started.
I looked to my right to my left it was one large dark room with many other people asleep.
Then a dark person of some sort howered over me and put his hands on my head. He was telling dont worry stay calm i am in a safe place.

Then i was trying to scream like a motherfucker which woke me up? I dont even know but i was in the same position heart racing but it was all back to normal.

It felt fucking real.

The other one i had is way but way worse and wont share.

I also may mention that there was a phase where me and my parents encountered randomly orbs in our house at night.

They either woke me or them up or i just went to take a piss and there they were howering doing nothing.
But we didnt care we laughed at it i mean what will you do about it.
Went on for a few months and then never happened again.

My first experience of it was at Uni. I woke up feeling terrified because I couldn’t move. My eyes were open but I couldn’t move them to look around or shut them.

I could sense a dark figure standing at the door of the bedroom, reminiscent of the old creepy religious guy from Poltergeist II.

He made his way towards the bed and then I could not only see him crawling from the bottom of the bed towards my face but I could feel his weight on top of me. I was lying on my back completely frozen.

By this point I was close to death - my heart was I’m sure close to cardiac arrest. I was screaming inside my head and desperately trying to make a sound. It even felt like I wasn’t breathing.

Still the most terrifying experience I’ve ever had in my life.

The second time it happened wasn’t for about 10 years in my own home.
