I just deposited one and it's new to me. I'm sure it can't be a good thing.

Anyone?

If this hasn't happened before, you probably have nothing to worry about. If it happens continuously, get thee to a doctor.

Hemmrhoids, fissure, diverticulosis, fistula, cancer, etc. (order from least to most severe).

Check further symptoms on WebMD or the like and if it keeps happening, then definitely call up your local proctologist.

How have you been feeling lately? Dont want to be gross but what type of stool was it,loose, hard? What color was the blood and how much, was it just when you wiped or was their blood on or mixed in the actual bowel movement. This is ugh such a nasty subject to talk about but Im sorta an expert in the bloody stool category,I being the proud owner of a chronic disease called Ulcerative Colitis which causes bloody stools, weight loss and general all around feeling of death :(

But really if it doesnt happen again I wouldnt worry about it,most likely caused from a broken blood vessel down there. If you are sick, start feeling sick or it continues go see your doc.

edit- yep this has to be my most disgusting reply ever to a post

Get to a hospital asap. If not for yourself, for the poor creatures that live in the sewers. :x

I don't know what fistula is, but seeing talk of blood "down there" and then a word as suggestive as fistula I have a really disgusting image in my head.

I was eating...but not anymore.

Seriously, like everyone else said, if it happens again, get your ass (literally) to a doctor asap. Because this does NOT sound like a good thing. And yes, the word "fistula" does NOT put good images in my mind.

You sure you weren't eating chicken bones or something? I hear that happens quite a bit with dogs and their intestines get torn causing some serious harm.

Holy shit, I use to take alot of codeine for migranes and I was having problems with blood and hemroids, I have since cut way down and I have not had such symptoms since. I thought it was becuase I ate mostely bread and meat and deficated once or twice a week. Hmm...

This has happened a couple times to me. My mom's a nurse and the first time it happened I went right to her and asked what was up. She said sometimes if you have a really big or abnormally hard BM then it can rip your butthole or the insides of your sphincter a little. (I was glad, because there had been a FUCK TON of blood but I'd also just had an enormous, "sharp" shit.) Also, it kinda sucks because if you DO rip yourself a new one, since it's in your ass and you're constantly passing crap through it, it doesn't always heal all the way. (Hence it happened to me more then once.) Just up your fiber or whatever to make your poop softer and you'll be ok till it heals.

But, yeah, basically that means go see a doctor. You might have to get a finger up your ass (thank GOD I didn't need to) but that'd be worth it to rule out anything serious.

...Just watch, I'm going to get a tag from this story that says, "Ripped himself a new one."

My friend's grandmother had bloody stools. Didn't go to a doctor or say anything until she had a heart attack from loss of blood. Not sure what the cause of the internal bleeding was though.

Being a recent recipient of the doctor "finger up the ass" move, I highly recommend it. Go see a doctor. I said you fool, you know I love you, c'mon join the joyride.

If this just happens once i wouldn't worry about it. You don't necessarily need to see a doctor. If this is bright red blood on the outside of the stool and on the tp you wipe with then its probably just a tear (fissure) or maybe internal/external hemorrhoids. Further down the list would be inflammatory bowel disorders like ulcerative colitis or crohn's disease.

Most fistulas don't cause bleeding unless the walls between the communication had a larger blood vessel inbetween.

Other causes (typically in older people): cancer, diverticulosis, ulcers, arteriovenous malformation.

That's your medical lecture for the day.

Fistula (Warning: site is NSFW, although the story is just NSFKeeping Your Food Down)

How much blood? Is it bright red or blackish? Is the tiolet water bloody?

Is there a lot on the TP or just a small spot?

The less blood there is, the more likely it's a hemmorhoid or fissure. If it's a hemmorhoid (external), you may be able to see it for yourself using a mirror and a flashlight. Look for a semi-large purple-ish lump around the anus.
